Vaughner -> Trivia Doms vs. subs (6/5/2008 6:46:08 PM)

I'm bored, so to absolve myself of that condition I want to see between Dom(me)s and subs who has the better knowledge of world history.  Points are allocated to each side Dom or sub depending on the orientation of the winner.

Question One

Name the Roman General who battled Attilla the Hun.

(No points for cheaters, that includes Wikipedia)

Man, i should know this one.  It hasn't been that long since the History Channel's series on the Barbarians.

i'm gonna guess -- Augustus?

It's a trick question because Attilla battled more than one Roman General.

Man, put this one up months ago then forgot all about it, and in my forgetfullness someone got it right.

Okay so here is number 2

What famous scientist/inventor tore up a contract that would have made him the world's first billionaire, in part for fear it would bankrupt the company and leave him to deal with the creditors?

GimpinDenial -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/16/2009 9:39:36 PM)

Uhmmm..and how do we know if someone cheated??

Nikola Tesla tore up a contract with Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company

wandersalone -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/16/2009 10:52:50 PM)

And if they are a switch do you split the points?

GimpinDenial -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/16/2009 11:56:24 PM)

Good Point there Wanders......

Vaughner -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/17/2009 1:03:58 AM)

If a switch answers, they get to choose which party gets the point.
And yes Tesla is the correct answer
and cheating is being done on the honor system since it'd be quite illegal for me to actually monitor people for honesty in the matter.

On that note please notate your team to make sure the right one gets their points.

Next question

Since Tesla gave it up, name the world's first Billionaire

GimpinDenial -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/17/2009 1:12:39 AM)

mmmkay.....my tally will be for the Subs....(in honor of wander who brought it up...)

Marcus Crassus
(though...since I cannot use google, I am not sure....)

edit:
Vaughner....you should do a running tally, since you are our Trivia Master

Vaughner -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/17/2009 1:15:51 AM)

So be it

Am keeping a Talley in notepad, but waiting until everyone has annotated their status before I post it between questions.

Vaughner -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/17/2009 1:24:43 AM)

Hmm perhaps I should have been a bit more clear on that one

Just to clear up confusion; First Billionaire who was given the title of Billionaire.

Am heading for shut-eye now, will check the posted answers when I get up and then will update the scores.

MadAxeman -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/17/2009 3:03:03 AM)

I'd guess Croesus or Midas. Two points for the doms lol.
Some time in the 70s the definition of billionaire changed making it 1000x more attainable.
Numbers were getting too long on the ledger pages for the salary calculations at American hedge fund companies.

William Randolph Hearst?

dcnovice -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/17/2009 9:19:43 AM)

John D. Rockefeller?

Eta: For your tally, I'm a sub.

YoursMistress -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/17/2009 10:02:46 AM)

Andrew Carnegie

I'm a sub, but would be delighted to play in service to the Dom/me side

yours

ResidentSadist -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/17/2009 10:56:57 AM)

So “Attilla battled more than one”,  “Tesla” & “Carnegie” are correct?   Is it 0/3, slave’s favor?   Or does BitaTrouble’s answer credit against her account which is a Dom/sub couple and it is split 0.5/2.5 . . . or the switch rule applies and she can asign the point to eiether side?  Does YourMistress count as Domme and it is 2/1 Doms favor?

Vaughner -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/17/2009 12:04:59 PM)

Alright going to clear up the score now

Correct answer is 2 points
An answer that is technically correct but prempts the sought answer (that is one that is technically correct but is not the answer being sought due to some specific is a 3 pointer for the sake of expaning knowledge)

Celtic Lord scores the First 2 points, as technically yes Attilla did fight more than one Roman General, only one is famous for it.

Gimpindenial hits a three pointer as his answer is technically correct, and preempts the sought answer.  Crassus was estimated to possess 200+ Billion while alive.

Cannot give Madaxeman points as he did not settle on a single person.

Sorry Beargonewild, however Hearst himself never cracked the billion dollar mark, his billionaire status represents wealth adjusted for modern value.

If you wish to contest an answer please provide a link.

DCnovice scores two points for the subs with John. D. Rockerfeller.  (As we are countng actual dollars at the time, and not adjusted value)

Forgot to include Tesla question in original talley

Dominants: 2
subs: 7

Deleted Question sucked

Vaughner -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/17/2009 12:43:28 PM)

Next question

What is THE Oldest fictional story known to human history?
Hint: It belonged to the civilization of Uruk

housesub4you -> RE: Trivia Doms vs. subs (1/17/2009 2:24:26 PM)

It depends on how you define "story"  but if I remember my history correctly it's Gilgamesh

jeez edit before you post edit before you post
