If you look at the color chart, it's one shade off of black.

Black
Green

I am long-sighted and have to wear reading glasses, my eyesight is deteriorating and I'll have to go back and get them rechecked soon as they get tired quickly which means I have to have the page text zooned in on 'large'. When I'm reading the posts and come across something so vivid as bright pink, red or anything else, it's actually painful to even attempt to read. I'd have to go through the rigamarole of highlighting each post but to be honest, cannot be bothered to do that especially when there are so many threads/posts by the same author that's doing it.

Default black for me.

MissMorrigan, i hope you see a talented opthomologist.

i haven't seen mine in a couple of years and i know i should get in.  i have an unusual sight problem which bears watching.

Reading yr post, i thought of possible cataracts or another eye disease.

Here's a link from the Mayo Clinic about cataracts:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cataracts/DS00050

Sorry about the drift.

Back to the Op:

i personally cannot easily read fonts smaller than size 4.  When P/pl use the default size (which i guess is size 3) and then italize it, i really cannot read what T/they have written.

The actual color of a font doesn't matter much to me, because the background color of posts cannot be changed.

Still, some degree of contrast is needed to be able to read a post, so the very light colors are illegible to me.

i like to see P/pl using the various choices on posts.  It makes a thread easier to read and more fun too.  Post after post in the default setting gets to be hard on my eyes, especially in a long thread.

The single hardest combination for me is red letters in a bright blue background.  It has a 3-D effect, like they are jumping out at me.  Things in all caps drives me nuts.

Statistically, the easiest combination is supposed to be white letters on a black background.  However, few computers are set up this way.  On a computer screen the easiest for me is black letters on a soft color (not bright white) background.  This page is slightly tinted (at least in my browser) so it is easy.

Florida has adopted a series of strict regulations for insurance company use in any sort of written material, including advertisements.  There are spedific size, color and other characteristics requirements.

What kinda fascinated me was the regulation requiring insurance companies to use language easily understandable by a person with an 8th grade reading comprehension level.

The Insurance Commission actually developed a computer program which 'read' submitted materials and 'graded' them on the 8th grade readability requirement.  If a piece of material failed to pass the program test, the insurance company had to rewrite it and try again.

So, leaving aside the special needs of some P/pl due to eye diseases, there actually is a scientifically tested 'readability' standard.

Dark works for me. Now, seeing how we're having a font-athon here on CM, does anyone has issues with my choice of color?

Level, i think Yr font color is very 'Domly'.

Kinda sexy, actually.

Certainly suits You.

I go for Black on a a light background.  Not pure white because then it just seems glaring but what we have here is just fine with me.  I save the color contrasting thing for when I do ecards which is nowhere near as often as I used to.

How do You change the background color of a post?  i thought that was set on 'white' for E/everyone.

Or did You mean the other side, and using background colors in profiles, etc.?

This question made me start looking around for some authoritative information about this, as I'm interested in ways to minimize eyestrain from computer use.

For starters, I did find this: http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/04/08/2213222.  The question posed is:
"What font color and what background is best for the eyes, when you work for a long time? I have found various contradictory recommendations and I wonder if you know about any medical studies on this topic."

Many of the replies reference their sources, at that link.

~ For me, personally, I have always preferred it a little dark - darker surroundings, darker clothing; it's easier on my eyes.  The background color on my computer, for blank space, such as a Word document or for composing this message, is a pale, dull bluish violet, rather than stark white.  I read a long time ago, that slightly less than maximum contrast was easier on your eyes, maximum contrast being pure black and white.

I thought I had read, too, that a very dark blue font was easier to read, and that a pale green background (probably with black font) was easier on the eyes.  One of the responses in the link above, says why pale green is a good background on a computer screen.  Maybe I'll try it.

When I tried a dark green font, I found it slightly less distinct, but I must say, Level's font looks fine, to me, and as others say, I thought it was black.  When I try the very dark blue, it's hard to tell, right off, whether it's better or worse than black font.  Mind you, that's with the violet-shaded background.

I'm glad. I don't want to give anyone a headache, or make things difficult to read, but I like having a slightly different color; the dark green is what I used on alt, and have always liked it.

Pink, I'd let this go if you weren't hanging your hat on it as a scientific standard...

Almost every state (if not indeed, every state) has regulations on what size/style/color the PRINTED materials of insurance must be in.  This has little, if nothing, to do with anything OTHER than insurance documents, and it certainly isn't "scientifically tested".

I've seen regs in other industries that say 4 point type (which is about size 1 here) is acceptable.
