Do the words "colonial empire" ring a bell?

We the west can trade, but why do we feel the need to control trade.

Echoes from the past, the elite prosper and the rest suffer and die.

I was wondering if this is why Britain is suffering an armed forces recruitment problem, everyone now can see for themselves that promises of a career, really mean possible death in foreign lands, and all that on less pay than a UK traffic warden.

And the fact that most of the homeless in the UK is made up of ex forces personnel, the veteran help being largely words with no substance.

Good point Aneirin and reminds me of this story I read recently.

Another one of your 'facts', like no oil in Darfur,?  More than half are vets?

They have been using terrorism for a long time, nothing new there.

If outside powerful forces had not interfered in the past like you propose in the future, that fight would have been over and settled. There would have been, in my opinion, many fewer deaths.

Only the people of the region can settle this... there is no one noble or evil side...They are both wrong...and right. Each has claim to he region in ancient history in one time period or another… the Israeli’s the oldest and Palestine’s the newest…both are right.

If they can’t settle with talk then they MUST settle it with arms…but it can’t be settled by propaganda and interference from the outside. That will only result in more innocents on both sides perishing needlessly.

Israel seems condemned  to experience the horrors of terrorism and war.

From its post-World War II creation, the modern-day State of Israel has been struggling with outsiders who sought to do it harm.

What would you do if your town was invaded by an armed force complete with demolition equiptment, lie down and accept the inevitable or fight back in whatever way you can ?

Well, if I didn't want boatloads of civilian casualties, I wouldn't hide among the women and children.  Which is exactly what Hamas does.

The technical term for that is cowardice.  It doesn't impress.

Then I guess you won't be strapping bombs to them either and sending them out to kill who ever is unlucky enough to be nearby when it goes off, another of their wonderful tricks.

Aneirin, true that.
That's only one of the reasons that I just couldn't care less about foreign countrie's problems.
The older I get the more isolationist I become and I ask myself why are people so foolish to want to get involved in troubles that are none of their concern and want my money to do it just to add insult to injury.
I think we need another political party in this country, the "I don't fucking care!" party.

What Alumbro exactly is your problem ?

Do you have issues with me, or my subject ?

It is obvious you have found your own sources of information as one can whatever their bias, and information that bolsters their own agenda, one of the obvious advantages of the toilet wall that is the internet. That is fine, and it is good that what I have written you have thought to investigate.I hope you are happy with your own knowledge confirmed.

Enjoy your weekend .

Alumbrado -> RE: Why is this allowed ? (6/7/2008 3:40:14 PM)

In case you haven't noticed, I have a problem with people flooding the internet or the world with misinformation  that supports hatemongering, ignorance, simplistic over generalizations, and all the rest of the sophistry that fuels divisive bigotry.

What is your agenda in not wanting to see real facts?

Aneirin -> RE: Why is this allowed ? (6/7/2008 3:46:45 PM)

Oh, I see, you are the self appointed internet police.

Did you notice the reference to toilet walls and internet ?

Alumbrado -> RE: Why is this allowed ? (6/7/2008 3:58:18 PM)

Nope, just a concerned citizen...which is all it takes sometimes.

LOLOL!!!
"Enjoy your weekend!"
I doubt that's possable.

Aneirin, have you ever seen a man and a woman really arguing with each other and I mean really going at it?
Then, a "third party" tries to step between them and within 60 seconds the third party is all of a sudden, "the enemy?"
That's one of the reasons I was a Federal Law Enforcement Officer instead of a local cop.
Domestics. No Thankyou! "Keep Fighting!"
They're some of the most dangerous things that local cops face!
There's a saying, "think locally act globally."
That's the biggest pile of B.S. I've ever heard but it makes the global socialists "feel good."
*If you try to intervene in  two countries' problems there are a *hundred ways to lose* and not one (1) way to win!*
The stupidity of my government and the U.S. State Department when it comes to this is absolutely breathtaking!
Now, I'm going out to eat and then to sit by the pool for a bit and maybe take a swim and that's what the people in the Middle East should do too.
Or not, because I belong to, the "I Don't Fucking Care" Party!

Aneirin -> RE: Why is this allowed ? (6/7/2008 4:19:20 PM)

Like I said, the toilet wall and the internet.

Where you read, is just as much open to interpretation as is any other location, which of course comes down to personal bias, you see what you want to see and there believe what you want to believe.

Alumbrado -> RE: Why is this allowed ? (6/7/2008 4:22:02 PM)

OK... you believe there is no oil under Darfur, and I believe there are billions if not trillions of barrels.

I've also provided my sources for my belief, now where can we read yours?

Aneirin -> RE: Why is this allowed ? (6/7/2008 4:32:30 PM)

Darfur, is not the subject of this post, the subject is Palestine and the human tragedy that exists there. Now if you have anything useful to add, please do so as I would like to get this conversation back on track

I'm sure you would love to get away from the fact that you brought up the falsehood about Darfur and now can't back it up...

Goes to credibility, as they say.

And as pointed out earlier, you haven't been any more accurate on your facts about Palestine, although you have trivialized the human tragedy greatly by parroting agit-prop.

Aneirin -> RE: Why is this allowed ? (6/7/2008 5:21:33 PM)

Well, I am in a no win situation here, this guy appears he is going to pursue me until he gets his ego boosted, I see now why things are so. So I will say here, I know no one who goes through life either keeping their mouth shut because they cannot provide internet links to back up their thoughts or anyone who knows everything. Such a person I would wish not to know, as I find it kind on anal.

Now I write on what I believe to be correct, if I am incorrect, fair enough, I don't know everything, nor am I going to research every possible angle prior to posting on here, as here I believe is an area where people can engage in friendly off topic conversation. Like I referenced earlier, what is written on the internet can be truth, or it can be fiction, it is upto the viewer to decide.

My reason for posting this topic was to stimulate conversation, nothing more, I did not wish to engage in an argument with another because he has an internet link to truth and of which, my apologies to all,I have since found out since all this crap started on this topic that Darfur does indeed have oil, something which of course is cock all use in alleviating the human suffering there. If this admittance of mine that I was wrong and that makes alumbrado fire his wad, then cool, but can we get back on topic please.
