When I think of Houston, I think of Strangers in Paradise . But that's 'cos I've never been there.

Txalliegrl, well I'm retired so I don't do the "work" part. I don't care for big cities alot but like to be near them. So, I guess suberbia or maybe a little bit country with plenty of easy women around.

Western burbs - high growth area. I really like Katy and points west, and southwest to Sugarland, Richmond and Rosenburg (the last two are VERY country towns, but cozy). When I lived there, I was mostly on the westside, in Houston city limits - from the Gallera out to Hwy 6. then too, that was dictated by where I worked and the commute I could tolerate. I like the Clear Lake area. Nothing like sitting on the boardwalk in Kemah and watching the boats come and go. Up north towards Kingwood is nice too. Tomball to the east.. so there's TONS of great areas...

lol...that's cool popeye....I know my mom was in the very first concealed weapons class...out shot my dad...lol (she's originally from Riverside, Texas....just east of Huntsville) just gotta make sure you don't piss them off...lol

Corpus is similar to where you live now, Popeye. It's laid back, great beaches, and it's not too big. I like San Antonio and Austin as well. Austin is hot as hell in the summers, but it has a lot of culture. San Antonio is beautiful and it's got a lot of stuff to do. At the bottom of my list of places in Texas is the Dallas metroplex and Houston. I just don't care for either one of them.

Western suburbs vary. Pearland is really nice as is Katy. Sugarland sucks balls and is Katrina Heaven. Missouri City is gorgeous but is a black community. (Its the Black Clear Lake) Baytown is as TxAllie said Kountry...Deer park is nice. Pasadena is redneck and hispanic - think Hard Hat Days and Honkey Tonk Nights. For you as ex Navy ex CG I say Bay area cause I assume youre a water person liek me... Cost of living in Houston is unreal. It can be pricy in the Woodlands / Galleria but in the Bay Area - a movie is $5 (Or $1 at the NASA Dollar 8 for the week old ones LOL) Torta $3.50 Tacos $1 or a 2 meat 2 sides BBQ plate $6.50 Not to sound cheap but I took a date to a place called Chilos Seafood. Mexican place, waitress doesnt speak english mexican band etc ... You would have thought you were in Peurto Vaiarta We had oysters and shrimp coctails, then two dinners - captains platters with fried rice, oysters, clams stuffed crab, shrimp, fish and a salad. She had the same but a grilled chicken breast instead of the fish... Cheesecake and a couple of Coronas and Margaritas each and the total bill was like $41 LOL try that anywhere else in America.

lol...I can agree with that....so many regions here, that have their own creepy crawlys Got in my office was bit by a copperhead this weekend...still in the hospital I forgot...the infestations...when I was growing up and visiting my grandparents in Riverside one summer, there were locust every where, one summer fleas, and the most horrid summer, turantulas (sp)....I'm talking covering the streets rolling over them in your car....needless to say I stayed inside....which some still got in, but not like outside, they were every where

I only live about 4 and a half hours from Dallas, and I can't believe how different the climate is. It gets hot here, but damn it's ridiculous how hot it gets there. We have trees, the mountains, and an abundance of lakes here. I guess that just makes the difference.

Big black ones too, Water Moccasins I think, I ran over one about 3 weeks ago, that sucker was 6 feet long! And when I first got down here I got some kind of bug bite and had a welt on my back from it for about a year. Hot? It was 104 outside here today! I was going to go to the gym today and opened the front door and got blasted by the heat and closed it. Yeah, I hear the heat is Real bad down in Texas.

oh yeah it makes a big difference. We have hills here, and trees, but the only water we have are lakes, rivers, little bodies of water that are all but drying up already. And those "wonderful" trees cause big allergies...ick. It was totally windy here last week...not much to stop it...lol it was like a small tornado every day...lol but at least it was somewhat cool....lol

i think the best part of houston is...the hotels...cause you get to leave..seriously, the only reason i go to hell, i mean houston, is to go meet with other people who are converging in houston...and then i leave... i like san antonio ok, people say there is lots to do here, but after 25 years Sea World, Fiesta Texas and the g-d damned River Walk aren't that friggin exciting ahem, anyway...the scene here is mediocre at best, trying to do something, but torn...the austin scene is better, i personally like DFW a lot better...but i don't work (and i can actually figure out the highways there) and i am into the leather scene and they actually have one there...the only place in texas that does... chelle
