Each thread is about opinion and the opinion that the topic is dull or has been done to death is as valid as any other even if it may not contribute to the discussion in terms of progressing it. Its a public forum with many people and similar themes popping up all the time and people express how they dislike it because thats the emotion they get when reading it. I hope that explains some.

One could just as easily wonder why the OP seems unable to simply skip past those sorts of posts.

Various definitions of the word 'label':

A brand of commercial recording issued under a trademarked name.
A brand name of a retail store, clothing manufacturer or a fashion designer.
An adhesive stamp
A slip (usually paper or cloth) that is attached to something to identify it, i.e. a label placed on a file.
A word or phrase used with a dictionary definition used to provide additional information
To describe or designate
To affix a label

Given the context of your OP, I don't think you are talking about the usefulness of attaching a piece of paper to something or a brand name of clothing, etc.  Given the context of your OP, you are refering to a word or phrase with a definition.

Yes, and ty for taking the time to respond, btw.

Yes, I believe there is a general consensus on what words mean in a given language.  Otherwise, when one English speaking person says to another English speaking person, "Want a piece of fruit", the person would ask "What is a fruit?"  The most likely response is "What kind of fruit".

I find it odd that you consider it interesting that I think words have a common meaning.  If they didn't then this post would just be gibberish, a seemingly random arrangement of marks.

Only the labels -- such as Dom, Domme, Submissive, Slave, etc., that W/we use to describe O/ourselves or A/another, kyra.  Not the entire dictionary, lol.

In regards to your last question, you are kidding right?  How else do we communicate?  In a speech class that I took, we were told that the spoken word only makes up about 7% of what we communicate with other people.  Tone and body language communicates significantly more to others than words.

Words are helpful, but they only communicate so much.

Knight's Kyra

TY for that information.  Wow -- 7% is really low.

Do you have any further thoughts on comunicating on the boards, where tone and body language cannot be used?

Thank you for your post.  Very interesting.

Yeah, taking longer this time than when she was :
pleasureforhim,tenderpink5,pinkbutterfly,pinkee,thispinky,pinkpleasures,candystripper,delectablepink,pinkpleasures, and fillepink...

whew, didnt feel like highlighting them all in pink, but anyone go back and read the posts, is the same ad nauseam stuff till folks tire of her, usually doesnt take this long........

edited to add: except for this time, the peptobismol shade and the slashy/speak usually give her away.

I think her memory also resets every time her name does because this isn't the first time she's played the "I don't know you or your posts" game with me.

~stef

shes hoping your memory is as bad as she attempts to make us think hers is....funny, she remembers me,

Nope, sorry ladies -- i don't.  Pretty much the only members i still 'know' are dark, IronBear, Knight's Kyra, Termyn8or and a few others.

Was it important?

Maybe its something to do with seeing your  name in lights      ....    or  on the puter.

Okay.  i am not acquainted with you or your posts, so i'm a bit surprised you'd be aware of mine.

Why not use the 'hide' button if that is the case?

Why bother posting to the thread at all?

pinkugarsub

You asked a general question - i answered it generally. Believe it or not, i wasn't trying to imply that you are attention seeking.  If you choose to take it that way, then i feel that there may be some validity to your thought.
edited to add - no i am not aware of your posts in a global way. So far i really haven't read anything from you that would make me take note of your posts beyond just reading them.

Okay.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yeah, remember past behavior and don't bother wasting time on someone who just like to keep repeating the same old patterns.

I'm going to have to post that to my monitor so I don't forget it next time.

I'm actually in the middle of writing an article in which I do address my thoughts on labels, so I'm just going to paste that here and let it speak for me. :)

~~~~~
Labels. Say that word and a whole lot of folks are going to roll their eyes. Lots of us into BDSM love cages but we hate boxes! Don't worry about it for right now. We'll get to it in a moment. If you're looking for a partner, you'll need to slap one on your ass. Slave, submissive, bottom, maid, doormat, servant, handmaiden, etc. are just some of the choices and any or all of them may fit. In the end, a label is simply a place to start.  How you define it is going to have to be explained to anyone you meet anyway. The same holds true on the other side as well. Someone calling themselves a Master may very well be one, but they may not match exactly or even at all with your idea of a Master. So, while you may believe that the label of slave is going to be perfect for the label of Master the truth is, it's not the labels which have to match, it's the people wearing them. Just pick the label you feel the most comfortable with for right now because if it gets itchy or uncomfortable you can steam it off and attach a new one later if need be or get rid of it all together.
If you don't choose some sort of label, then be prepared to have every male, every female, every straight, gay, intersexed, bisexual, master, mistress, submissive, slave, top, bottom, switch, butler, cd, tg, handmaiden and, hell .. see what I mean about labels? There are so many of them I don't have room to fit them all into the space I have! Narrowing your field is going to be to your benefit. So shrug off those rolled eyes and just do what you have to do. No one but you is going to have to wade through your in box of emails.
<Rolls eyes back to Bita.>
Well said!
And to think you are one of the remembered ones, lol...I'm pretty much through too, will have to remember since I have been told that I need to know everyone else shares my POV for validation....but I do feel spechul, I am now hidden on this side and blocked on the other side....woohoo......if I gave a rats ass about that particular POV it might bother me.......
edited to add: I am making sure you know kyra, that remark about POV was not directed at you, maybe I should have done the remark in pink to be clear.
To Everyone W/who posted:
While i agree with T/those of Y/you who feel labels serve a necessary function -- whether subject to clarification or not -- i see a difference between communication on the two sides of CollarMe.
On the other side, where O/our profiles are and W/we receive email. labels seem very useful.
On this side of CollareMe, the message boards, maybe not quite as much.
Here W/we often exchange ideas and opinions with strangers as well as T/those W/we know well, and the possibility of misunderstandings seems high.
As Knight's Kyra pointed out, only 7% of all communication is the written word; the remainder is body language and such.  Here on the boards, W/we really have nothing but the written word.
Yes, there are features on the boards like 'reply', but IMO they don't greatly enhance O/our written communication.  While misunderstandings can arise here on any subject, IMO they most often occur when W/we rely too heavily on labels and acronymns instead of taking time to more fully express O/ourselves.
But without the use of labels and the like, the boards would be way to burdensome to most members -- including me.  i need some shorthand references or it'd take me forever to write just one post.
So my POV, after having had the benefit of all of Y/yours, is that labels may be used a little more freely on the other side than on here, but in the end,they do U/us more good than harm in communicating.
[If people could think more in terms of "What does this word mean to you?", the kink world might actually lose 25% of it's drama.
Do You mean W/we should try harder to suss out A/another member's intended meaning when T/they use a lable?  How would W/we do that?  What cues do You think W/we can use?]
Communication.  Labels are merely the first step in learning someone.  When I am speaking with a Dominant, I understand a general sense of how he identifies, but I know nothing more beyond that.  You don't need clues to suss things out.  You need to talk.  Discuss.  Question.  Share opinions.
i agree.
i do that myself with Doms.  i'm sure most submissives have to, just to cope with the 'onyourkneesbitch' types, etc.
Would W/we be able to do the same thing with O/other members, here on the boards, in your opinion?
pinksugarsub
I don't cope with 'onyourkneesbitch' types.  I ignore and delete.  Easy.
And can we do what same thing on the boards - communicate?  I've absolutely found that to be the case.  This is a second ID for myself here on the boards, and I've definitely been able to discuss, share opinions and learn on the boards.
Take everything with a grain of salt and give a poster the 'benefit of the doubt' until I know who I am communicating with.  It's the same as any online communication - you learn to get a feel for tone behind the words when you know a poster.
Those who are inclined will look at the profile on the 'other side'. those who arent wont.
Those who spend time on this side.. and bother paying attention to posts.. will get an idea of the people here.
