Bombay Sapphire gin, and Martini & Rossi extra dry vermouth... to make his favorite drink. Now in his 80's, he still has a daily martini... straight up.

my birth father died years 20 years ago, my adoptive dad will get a phone call from me today....i do want to wish him well but i already know it's going to turn into a lecture about what's going on in my life right now...you know, stuff that's making me really happy certainly can't be good for me.

My dad's been dead for about a year and a half now...... We had a difficult relationship (to put it nicely). The last gift i gave Him was 2 days or so before he died (maybe only a day)......... He was in the ICU, moaning in pain and i rubbed his shoulder and told him i had forgiven him and prayed to (to whomever, because i'm soooo not a religous person) my higer power that he be admitted to heaven...

My dad has been gone 15 months now, and I miss him every day. I will be talking to mum later, so we can share some past fathers days memories, but Im focussing on my kids dad today, hes already had stupendous nookie and a fried breakfast (not at the same time), a new hard drive and dvd burner and later will get his roast beef dinner. hes smilin and happy and the kids arent up yet.
To all the wonderful dads out there have a good day.

My Dad is in the hospital, he suffered a stroke last week. But I will be at the hospital to see him today. I got him a card and a mini rose to cheer up his hospital room. When he comes home we are going to plant that rose in a bigger container and hope that it grows strong and beautiful.

It is his BDay and Fathers Day today but all I am doing is a card. If I get him a purchased gift, I will get a lecture on spending money I don't have and I simply forgot so haven't time to 'make' a gift.
I always feel soooo inadequate compared to my sisters. The eldest got him a lovely sculpture etc. Ah well. We are not close and I don't like being around family but I will make the 60 mile round trip to say hello later this afternoon.

I will need a bottle of wine (even tho I don't drink) by the end of the day.

My dad passed in 2000. I will never forget that day. I put new flowers on his grave and my uncle's and grandmother's. I am going to pull a double shift today so that the kid that works with me can celebrate with his children.

i gave mine tears.....first time i have cried on this day in a decade i guess. my dad died in 85, and today i got to thinking i was 23 when he died, and it was 23 years ago, and that just hit me so hard. time moves so quickly when it comes to some things.

neah.. it is on other threads as well. ( they are all over) it is a rough holiday I guess... who knew I wasnt the only one having a rough day today! nice to have friends in sympathy. Sucks how it happened.

Reading this thread, I'm feeling a surge of appreciation for my dad. Our relationship isn't perfect, and it can be pretty superficial. But we try, and I know he loves me.

Sent him flowers and will call later today.

Almost six years ago, my dad was diagnosed with a rare cancer, and we were told it was probably his last holiday season. Right now he is on the phone to his sister in Italy, so fie on you, doctors!!

Of course, we got back this post chemo pod person who is often utterly hellish to live with, and the stress is killing my mother that much more quickly, but by and large, I am grateful that he is still here with us. My family life hasn't been easy, but my parents love me, even though they don't get me at all. I am grateful for them every day.

And I got a card, because dad is the most UNGRACIOUS sod in the universe and would have given me shit if I had given him a gift. We're going out for steak this afternoon. Might get one of those tomato trees, too, as a surprise this month...

Big snorgle hugs to those of you who have lost parents, to death or otherwise. My dad has really pushed the envelope with me, his behavior the night my grandmother died nearly clinched it for me. Still, he is my only dad, and I am working to preserve that relationship. I can't imagine how hard it must be for those of you who have endured physical and sexual abuse.
