Hello All...I've been lurking around the boards for a while, and first want to thank everyone for their knowledge and everything.

My own question was if anyone knows a good website or something like that that could help with rope bondage. I did a search but couldn't find a website, and most previous posts I found were just about it in general.

Obviously its best to learn from a knowledgeable person and in real life, but I'm not looking to get too crazy. Just wanted to learn some different kinds of knots and the best/safest way to raise up a leg or something, or other 'simple' things.

Thanks

For starters I'd find either old Boy scout rope manuals or sailing books. Get some length of cord and start practicing knots...especially emergency release knots. Checking your local dungeon and making inquiries would be a way to move on from there. Obviously the knot knowledge will put you ahead of the game.

What kind of bondage are you looking for? Japanese? Western? Restraint-only?

Why use rope when we now have chain, locks, cuffs, velcro, plastic wrap, duct tape, and coban skin/wound dressing?

Rope can be used to be very decorative but no matter what, enough movement, twitching, and fidgeting will free the person bound by rope alone.

Not necessarily.

Back to the OP

At the bottom of John Warren's posts you will find a link to his website. Look under bondage anf follow that site through. there is a section on the four knots used in shibari which are basic and excelent.

Do a search on Shibari, I'm sure you will find what you are looking for. Shibari is the most detailed and beautiful you can get. Not so hard to learn either.

A gentleman that goes by Talmad, I believe, has good examples and video with links that show some really good shibari style bondage set-ups. I will see if I can find the website again and paste a link to it here later

shamless self-promotion on my part ......

http://www.kinkyropes.com/tutorials/tutorials.php has several tutorials that have downloadable video clips that you can see the knot "in action". A lot of people have trouble with step-by-step pictures and have to see the knot being down in order fot it to sink in.

Its still a work in progress, but I hope to have a lot more of the tutorials finished by thanksgiving *knock wood*

No. Actually that specific kind of knot knowledge will put you behind the game.

Scouting knots are meant to go around logs and tent steaks and stuff like that. They simply wont work when done around flesh. Several reasons for this. First of all, scouting knots don't hold up to variable direction pull. Logs normally don't squirm and wiggle around. Second, scouting knots have a small area of contact againt the object they are tied around. Again, a log does not yell out in pain if the rope is cutting, digging in. Third, scouting knots are needlessly complex. There is a very good reason why they are so complicated because one of their main uses is as a testing too to see if little johnny is able to pay attention to detail. Much simpler knots are out there. Fourth, the list of the six canonical scouting knots is over 100 years old. Back then the only ropes around were rough, scratchy stuff that had a lot of grip. The slicker softer modern ropes (the ropes used for erotic bondage) just don't have the surface tooth necessary for scouting knots.

Good "crossover" knots are Eskimo knots. They are easy to tie and untie even when your fingers are frozen. And they hold well even in ropes that is slick and smooth from being frozen. There are also a small handful of fishing knots that do well as those knots hold up well to variable direction pull and will hold in smooth slick fishing line. Assuming, that is, that you even need knots at all. A lot of stuff in Asian bondage can be done relying on friction alone without the need of knots.

This myth that scouting knots make for good bondage knots is misinformed fiction that needs to stop.

I for one am in total and unequivocal agreement with tiger on this one.

This aint brain surgury that way. your need for a french bowline that turns into a barrel sling is kinda remote.

thats why he has pictures on his site, every body wants to tie a monkeys fist knot, which is pretty useless in bondage, but pretty if you got advanced ideas. but you need to differ a bight from a loop and standing parts from running parts and know the different names that a larks head is called by. it is one of the basic 3 or 4 knots you need to know.......
after all we aint looking to strangle nobody are we? Nothing you see in Midori uses more than 4 or so basic knots............the rest is fluff. Do you know that if you kink a rope (and most of you don't understand kink in rope) the knot will lose 1/2 its strength? so you got this little 98 pound weakling suspended over a cement floor 8 feet up with hands and feet bound such that when you kink the rope she falls that distance flat with no hope of mitigating the fall? Learn to tie 3-5 basic knots, learn what burn is, know breaking strength, then you can engineer tripods and block and tackle and nebulous shit later............my little robinson carusoes

because rope is **hot** and incredibly sexy. Think about a peice of nice thick white rope and the feel of it against your skin and MMMmmmmMMMMM

rope is more like a tool and less like a toy!

also how do you remove the duct tape without removing skin?

Here are some sites for you. If at all possible take a basic rope bondage class. I took one last year with Midori and it was not only a lot of fun but the 3 basic knots she showed us can be used in so many ways if you just use a little creativity.

Because there is something incredibly erotic about the smell of good rope (hemp...mmmm) and the tactile sensations that go along with rope bondage. Hemp rope 'grabs' skin like nylon can't. Cotton is nice, too, but hemp is completely yummy. The vibration of rope against rope when pulling it through to create a knot is like a lover's caress. The low 'ziiiiip' sound it makes feeds the senses. Being pulled back and forth as the Top places knots, binds limbs or hair is like swaying in a warm breeze. Harder yanks on the rope provide delicious contrast. The process is a complete sensory experience - sight (or lack thereof if blindfolded), sound, smell and even taste (I've had Tops place a coil of rope in my mouth as a gag - hemp doesn't taste as bad as I thought it would). It's amazing how a rope session with someone who is fairly skilled can be a fantastic experience. Watching an hour (or more) long rope scene is about as exciting as watching paint dry for me. Being in an hour long (or more) rope scene is heaven. You just can't get any of that with chain, locks, cuffs, velcro, plastic wrap, duct tape, and coban skin/wound dressing.

Incorrect. Rope is far more than decorative. In the hands of someone who is skilled with it's use rope can be quite immobilizing. The last time I did a bondage scene the more I twitched and fidgeted the more snug the restraints became and that was because he wanted it that way. Knowing that I am a fidgeter he decided to use that against me and hoist me by my own petard. Ahhh, good times

I prefer braided ropes over twisted ropes. Braided ropes do not slip, roll and pinch as twisted ropes are apt to do. Among the many braided varities, I like the silky flexible ones the best.

Sincerely,

merry

Wow thanks everyone for all the information.

My next question is whether or not the rope you can buy at a local sex shop is adequate to use (again, this isn't for too much advanced stuff, at least for now lol), or if the better stuff can be found elsewhere?

I saw someone mention hemp...where do you find that?

I highly recommend their rope. Its extremely well made and if cared for properly will last a good, long time. Plus, it comes in purple

Hello There,
It's not really an educational site but hogtied.com has lots of bondage photo's. It may not teach the styles, but it can give you some good ideas of how to tie someone once you learn the ropes.
Sincerely,
sub suzanne
