I fill up my car once every six to eight weeks, about 12 gallons. I fill up my motorcycle once every two weeks (5 gallons) if I only go back and forth to work. And that is coming home every day for lunch. Living three miles from work was the best decision I made. I would use peddle power but some asshat decided to put an industrial park on the narrow road I have to use to get to work. I will be able to afford gas even when it gets to $6 or even more.

Hmmmm... depends on what week it is how much I pay for gas, really.  Not because of price fluctuations, but because what's going on that particular week will determine whether I'm driving the truck (typically about $75 to fill the tank completely from sittin on E) or the minivan (which usually runs me $55 for a fill from E.)  If I'm going to be having to run a lot of errands with my dad - who has a wheelchair that I have to accomodate while still being in a vehical low enough to the ground that he can get in and out easily - it's the minivan with the back seat removed.  I'm getting around 20 city and 30 highway with it on average.  If I'm going to the lake, have to go someplace like homedepot for materials for a project, etc - it's the truck, and that only gets 14 city and around 22 highway.  Whichever one I'm Not going to be using as much, I let a friend of mine drive who is currently without a running vehical.  Work per se isn't a consideration for me - I work from home, and walk from the office to the workshop down the hall.

No, I don't buy on credit - I either go inside and pay cash, or I use my debit card that comes directly out of my checking account.  That's true not just for gas, but for everything.  I don't like the "play now pay later" philosophy.

I haven't been going out of town lately, so I've only had to fill up about every week and a half.  I fill up when it gets to around an 8th of a tank.  I have a 14 gallon tank, and it usually cost around $35.00 or so.  I can afford it, and I am glad I have my little Nissan pickup.  I've been managing to pull around 28 miles a gallon out of her.

i use less than $10/week for my motorcycle if i can get away with it.... gotta run heavier errands every once in a while, though. Wife is working from home. Probably $15-$20/week average all told, so not really a big deal.

Since i get cash back on my credit card for gas purchases, and you have to prepay for gas everywhere nowadays, i haven't bought gas with cash in years...

i currently pay about $300.00 per week for gas.  i drive for a living, and if i can no longer afford it, i will have to seek other employment.  The local government has, in its infinite benevolence,  allowed me to add a nominal surcharge for my services, so thanks neighbors, and valued customers.
My other, part time, situation also involves a lot of driving, at the company's expense.  Their effort is to perform multiple assignments through each trip, which is practical, but also cuts into my salary, and that personal/exclusive touch.  Not a terrible loss, but it is likely to result in staff cuts.  i shudder to think of their current gasoline expenditures, but know that my work there runs about 175-225 per week at this point.
i am also trying to gather my plans from the late seventy's during gas rationing days for a car that runs without gasoline.  it is less of a stretch of the imagination than it was then, but i have yet to find an eager investor(s).  if the price keeps going up, i may simply publish and let the damned thing get built.

have they tried to introduce the Runsheimer (sp?) program on you yet?
i found their requirements to comply almost insane!

i actually don't qualify for Runzheimer, as i do not own any of the vehicles that i operate.  in one instance i lease, in the other they are company owned and cared for.

It costs me about $75 to fill up and I use just under a tank a week.

This thread is really getting painful, any real masochists around?

I put $12 in my tank at $3.89 per gal last night for just over 3 gallons of gas.
That'll last me a week or more.
I can get 50-55 miles out of that.
The gym is 4 miles away with the grocery store on the way and anything else I need pretty much on the way too.
I should be able to go 10 days without buying another 3 gallons.
And I spend about $150 a week on lottery tickets so gas really isn't a "problem" it's just that after all this shit that I'm starting to push back on the oil companies.
I'm to the point now that I don't even want to give them *one penny* anymore.
The guy at the gas station last night told me that even their business is down 25% since gas prices hit $4 per gallon. And, once again I was the only one there pumping gas.
And, I haven't been out to eat at a restaurant in more than two weeks now so I actually am saving money.

Popeye? you need to work harder at securing a nice sweet
submissive woman, that will cook you home cooked meals.
Maybe she will even come pick you up in her nice car, full
of gas and take you out!

My wife gets by on about $30 a week in gas. (She drives an '85 Mercury Sable)

Until this last week, I was paying about $5.00 a tankful for diesel. I had a turck that burned waste veggie oil that I de-watered and filtered myself. But about a week ago, I had a guy offer me $3K for the truck and my home made filter rig. I've used that to buy a used Ford Bronco. ($750) So I'll probably be spending about an additional $40 a week at the pump.

The diesel was starting to need transmission work, and frankly, I was getting tired of collecting the oil. (If you figure your time is worth at least $5.50 an hour, you can see where it could cut into the savings. It's also getting more and more difficult to find places where the eatery isn't just throwing it out for free, but selling it to some recycler.) The money I made on the deal is helping me make some needed home repairs. So, it's a trade off. If diesel fuel keeps rising like it does, I'm sure I'll be able to pick up another older, mechanically injected diesel fairly cheap.

My minivan, which I need with 3 kids otherwise I'd trade it in for a small car, is about $80 for a fill-up now, and cash is very tight so every other time it goes on the gas credit card.  I hate that!  I think it's about every ten days that I fill up - work is about 10 miles away and I generally only do short trips otherwise.
Interesting this came up, I was just talking to some friends the other day about American's "need" for a big car - they were complaining that they too would have a small car if it wasn't for the 2.3 children. Not picking on ya ;) just thought I'd pass on the conversation/my thoughts on it. When DH & I went to Germany there were 4 of us. We rented the biggest thing available because of two crabby mothers and tons of luggage. The car would seat 7. Two in the front (stick shift) three in the middle, and the back had fold down seats for two. The car was about the size of a Pinto station wagon. And we were the biggest thing on the road with the RARE sighting of an occasional small van (think Volkswagon van) and larger utility trucks like dumptrucks. It was pretty eye opening. Here we don't buy cars for seating, we buy them for their luxuries. It's not good enough that a car can get you from point A to point B - they must have captain's chairs, cup holders, drop down TV's and lots of leg room. So if you start feeling the crunch, keep it in mind. A vehicle is to get to point A to point B - not to be a living room on wheels

This just hit my funny bone. If you walked 4 miles a day you probably wouldn't need the gym /ducking OWWW quit pinching me!

Ours varies, but about $30 a week or less. Husband works from home, except for a once weekly trip to the office about 20 miles away. All of my stores are within a few miles and we go out once a week dancing which is about 15 miles away. I don't do alot of running around. I hate shopping so I typically go about every 2 weeks and stock up then on groceries & household supplies. Most of our gas is spent on 2 mile round trips *rolls eyes* to the Lowes for building supplies. Which annoys the devil out of me because I think some trips for small items WE should walk to but it's kind of hard to get lumber home on your back.

I saw the gas crunch coming since the dollar had long been poised to fall.  A year ago I spent a bunch of time looking for a good deal on a clean Honda CRX sport coupe.  I bought a 1989 for $2k and it gets 40mpg on the highway so my fifteen gallon tank lasts a LONG time.  Gas is $4.50 or so a gallon here.  Thank god I have it cause I am driving down to see BSB in LA which is a 400+ mile drive each way, should only cost about $125.

I am just glad I am not stuck with one of those big gas guzzling SUVs, people can't even sell them now.  Detroit is stuck with gas guzzlers and Japan had 40mpg cars twenty years ago.  Used Geo Metro's are going for over $3k on Ebay, they get nearly 50mpg.

I ride a bike or take the bus. Cost is between nothing and about five bucks. And I get my excercise-I'm losing weight, rather then turning into a fat pig who can't walk 20 feet to get to his trough..He'd rather drive there instead.

I wish I could ride my bike to work.  It was something like 106 here yesterday and there's no way in hell I'm riding in that heat.  Oh wait - that IS hell!!

Work is about 20 miles each way.  Doable, but summers in Sacramento are brutal for me.  (I don't do well with hot weather).  Maybe in the Fall I will start doing that.  The bike trail goes right to my office.

Two things before I say this.

First of all, I live in the same town I drive in.  Second of all, I top off at 3 quarters of a tank each week.  It is a little below that now.  It will cost me $25.00 to bring my tank to full.
Most of the time it is around $20.00.

That is a lot considering I do not drive long distance driving.   The prices need to come down.

It won't happen until it is out of office.

Regards, MissSCD

I take the Metro.

I probably fill up my tank once every six months or so, so, gas prices are n't really affecting me carwise.

It affects me in other ways, such as flying home to see my family.  Plane tickets have skyrocketed, so my quick impulisve trips have ended.  I have to plan ahead to be able to afford it.
