I haven't paid for gas a day in my life.  I either walk or take a bus.

I fill up the Explorer about once a month, so it costs about $20 - $25 per week for gas.  Mostly I drive just to work and back.  I work downtown and that is less than three miles from the house.

Alandra does a lot more driving that I do with the shopping and driving kids around and spends about $50 - $60 per week.

His fuel is paid by his job.

We can afford it.  I considered riding my bike to work, but then I would not be able to come home for lunch and any savings in fuel would be off-set by having to get lunch.  And then it isn't really feasible to ride a bike six months out of the year when there is a foot and a half of snow on the ground either and -40 outside.

I have put off getting another car (mine was totaled awhile back) because of the gas prices. Today while at the park my daughter tells me mom why not buy a scooter. I walk or take local transportation (which is horrible in our town). I know several people who drive cabs for a living who have had to find other jobs because of the gas prices.

I pay nothing for gas, since I don't use it. =)

Woo for bike riding.

Understand on the travel cost. On plane just to get my daughter from Sac to southern Oregon would cost almost $400. The only way I have figured out travel is for us both taking the bus, since that is the only way i feel safe. Feel and not put a down payment for her traveling. I want her to have a sort of nice summer instead of stuck at home while i go to work.

my gas usage is way down since i'm not working for the rest of the summer, and i've got a honda that's great on gas...i'm probably using 10 bucks a week right now for errands.  if we decide i should take my car when i move to MD, the gas will run upwards of 700 dollars in gas i think depending on how high gas is at the end of the summer.  anything i'm saving over these next few months will be lost during the trip but it's well worth it to me.

So far, no one has mentioned an obvious alternative: pony boys/girls! You have to admit, if a significant % of the population used them, the gas savings would be wonderful! (And the voyuristic thrills would also be significantly increased!)

i pay $35.00 / week to fill my tank.  if i go on a day trip or do some extra driving, it may cost more....but basically my $35.00/ week goes no less than 1/8 of a tank before i fill again.  It's affordable...but i have one of the "greenest" cars of 2007.  If i were still driving my old car, things would be a lot different.

You know, one of the guys on BBCA's "Top Gear" made an observation... gas is really cheap, when you think about it. They have to drill down into the Earth repeatedly until they find it. Then they have to ship it to the coast, or send it up a pipeline that can run the length of several countries. Then they have to refine it, put it on another tanker, where it's taken to a depot, and finally distributed around the country in fireproof trucks to gas stations where... you only have to pay $4.00 a gallon for the stuff!

How the hell do they do that?!

Yeah, gas prices hurt like hell... but, honestly, what do you expect the price to do, when we've already gone through roughly half the Earth's supply of easy-to-get-at fuel, and the demand (thanks to China) is going to triple?

I think we need to drill in Alaska, and work feverishly like hell,
to come up with viable alternatives to gasoline real soon.

~Slight Hijack~  Did you check southwest?  They have 7 day advanced tickets, Sac to Portland for $105.

I have a scooter, and also use the bike/bus option....yes, even in the heat!  My gas cost is probably between 6-8 bucks a week, less with the use of the bike.  And it's already paying off...the bike, that is!  I've lost 6 lbs in a month, and haven't changed anything but adding the bike.  If I need to do a large amount of grocery shopping, I call a cab, otherwise I can get what I need on the scooter with a backpack.

My friends ask me when I'm getting a car.....I'm NOT!  The scooter works fine for me, I have no car payment, insurance on it is dirt cheap, and it's good on gas....about 75-80 mpg.  If I really feel the need for a road trip, I can rent a car.  My family is on the east coast, so driving there wouldn't be an option anyway....even on vacation.....it's 3 days one way to drive it.  People at work are spending more for gas to get there than they are on child care and groceries....seems like they are working just to pay for the gas to get there!

Zero.

The US taxpayers foot the bill. I used my corporate credit card. I deduct my fuel expenses, along with my wife and our driving age kids, from my business income in order to avoid paying taxes going to social engineering programs. All of them, at least once per week, make a business development call on a client or two, and then there are the 'marketing meetings' in Vegas and other drive to conventions.
I try to avoid the news (too depressing). Is it over $1.50/gallon?

i have a two hour commute 5 days a week, and even in my small VW the price just to get to work is SCARY!  Currently gas is 4.49 a gallon here, and having to fill up every 3 days (give or take)... not pretty.

Can i afford it... no, but moving closer to my job is not affordable at the moment either.  Every "extra" money goes to  feeding the gas tank.

~edited to play with myself... and to add~  Unfortunately there is no public transportation where i work, though i keep hoping some day there will be!

Don't hold your breath. While the right wingers since Eisenhauer have kept the US on a permanent war footing, Europe has quietly developed the best transportation infrastructure in the world. You'll be riding a horse to work before the fat white swine let loose of the Treasury for infrastructure.

I thought I should make a few people envious. I haven't put gas in my car since February and have put on about 170 miles since then.

I live and work in a small town and I can walk everywhere if I so choose. Two minutes to walk to work, less than five to the grocery store and bank, ten to the post office or the closest watering hole.I rarely have the need to travel out of town.
