Damn… I guess letting everyone know that I am also an ordained minister (Universal Church of Attainment - San Fran) isn’t much shock and awe… more like on par for the course!

Like DarkChylde, I too was/am an ordained layminister of the Southern Baptist Convention.  In fact, I was preaching in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras when I saw my FIRST Dominatrix.  A group of them, walking down a dark alley, decked out in leather corset and heels, complimented with whips and floggers and I haven't been the same since!

Since I haven't posted here yet.....

If Darch can admit to being a former minister, I can admit to being a former Mennonite. (Think Amish but with electricity and a phone.)  {There's a reason why I'm so sweet and nice at times...... *sighs* } …………......

You only need a masters in HR in Oklahoma to go back and get your LPC. There are lots of counselors around here without PhDs. I am only working on mine because I have nice fat scholarships and I want to.

i'll have one in sociology as well as a BA in sociology but to do what i'm really interested in any justice i'm going to need pysch as well. a MA in pysch will make me a hell of lot more marketable on the job market as well, and it'll be cheaper in the long run than a soc PhD which is something like the second longest program on the grad level on average.

Fluffy, if you do some research and talk to folks in the field that are working, you will find that a MSW is far more "marketable" than a Masters in Psych. You can't get a license to practice counselling or any kind of therapy without a PhD in Psych, whereas, with an MSW, you can be licensed in most states to do various kinds of counselling.

except that i have no interest in social work and i think i would want to do violent things to myself if i had to work my way through a MSW degree. i know there's a lot of overlap between soc and psych but i don't think i can handle that much concentration in an area that i have no interest in (i've thought about going that route too). i actually think i may just go straight into a PhD program in psych after talking to some people about it.

a lot of the county level jobs around here want a master's in psych, which is why i was thinking about doing it. they're primarily entry level but i was planning on eventually going back and doing a doctorate's at some point anyway so i figured that entry level would get me work experience. a lot of the NFP jobs around here that i have the concentrate for (gender/sexuality/family) want a master's in psych or 5 years experience as well, even though the soc is essentially the same.

Perhaps not shocking but interesting... i'm a D.A.R. aka Daughter of the American Revolution.  Yup, someone in my ancestry fought in that war.

Or so says my aunt.  She's the geneologist of the family...

Possibly something a bit more shocking, i once played the clarinet (took lessons in 5th grade... don't remember a thing now, lol) and (of all things, lol) ukelele in grade school (part of music class in 6th so everyone had to learn it, if i'm correct).

i taught myself how to play the piano at the age of 5 by watching my mother play...from there, i went on to the ukelele, then violin, guitar & took drum lessons in my late 40's with a goal of playing in a rock & roll band by the age of 50...sadly, i didn't make that goal...damned depression!!

I know that licensing requirements vary from state to state. My impression is that more states than not give licensure to MSW than to those with masters in Psych. Of course, the usual disclaimer applies that your mileage may vary. That's why I suggested that fluffy do some research to see what rules apply in the state she wishes to be licensed in.

Oh, that reminds me, lol...

i've had "run-ins" with the handbells (for church), the violin (college, extra-corricular kinda thing), and a Spanish Guitar ... the guitar was a gift of sorts from a friend of the family.  And i wish i could take piano lessons sometime.

why can't you take piano lessons?  i did that a few years back & thoroughly enjoyed my return...funny story:

about 25 years ago, i was run over by a car & one of the 8 bones that were broken was my thumb--1st metacarpal to be exact...the next day, the ortho guy came in to see me & said he had bad news for me...he said that my thumb wouldn't heal properly, that it would be shorter & not exactly straight...so, how many times in a lifetime does one get the opportunity to say, "Oh no, Dr...does that mean i won't be able to play the piano???"  so i did...i guess he wasn't used to someone in my condition making jokes & thought i was serious & got all upset & offered to do surgery & pin it & whatever else he could do to make it heal as good as new...after i explained that it was an old joke, i didn't have the heart to tell him that i actually did play the piano...poor guy....LOL  & really all that happened is that instead of an octave plus 2, i can only reach an octave plus one...

I was on a commercial for Goodwill industries. I was in a hospital waiting room holding my 3 week old grandchild. I was wearing a black leather jacket, tight jeans and black leather boots.I never saw it, but people would stop me and comment on it.

i agree that research is a good idea no matter what field you are interested in. I am  in Pa but am licensed in two other states as well and have never had a problem, nor have any of my associates. It is an awesome field to get into.

Not a D.A.R. but have proof (supposedly) that a family member was on the Mayflower. Other family members came to the New World in the early to mid 1600's from Wales and Scotland.

Musically, I played piano and clarinet starting about age 6 through college. Also played a bit of flute, bass clarinet, oboe and did musical directing as a drum major and filled in when needed. Also did dance team, drill team, colour guard, rifle team and all sorts of things in school. (Anything to get the HELL outta class!)
