Thanks RedMagic.

This thread sure has gone in interesting directions. It's fine that I didn't grasp her actual point, if it was her actual point because without reading it all over again I don't remember seeing her say that it was a piece of ironic satire.
It was the attitude of if someone doesn't understand then they just aren't quite *fill in your favorite, bright, savvy, clever, sophisticated etc*.

I've read many posts by the OP, many of those have indeed been in the vein of satire. They have also revealed an unhappy person. I reacted to the emotion over the actual words which is my pattern. Rarely does it take me in a direction like this thread went.

I just read a very similar thread on b.com forums...have to agree though, I am not a lifestyler, I don't live this 24/7 and certainly don't visit these boards daily...I do consider myself a kinkster. . .

i have to say that, as a newcomer to these Forums, one of the things i've struggled with the most is the difference between the American and Australian senses of humour - i tend to take things far too literally and miss the point that the whole thread is meant to be humourous.   i apologise to everyone in advance for the times when i simply don't "get it".   We're not somber and serious folk down here; it's just i'm a little slow.

And, if the BDSM lifestyle is bullshit then i guess i'm paddling knee deep in the brown stuff - long may it continue~!

i like that, kinkster. to me lifestyle/lifestyler feels sort of clunky (among other things). i've started using kinkster on lj and whatnot as well.

Kinkster is good, I like it - kink just happens to be my lifestyle. What anybody else does or calls themselves is their business.

I've read though the responses. The most noteable absentee is Stella herself.
Much like J. Swift, Beethoven, Rothko. Plath.... a Luther King......and many many more great creators whose work lives on.
I am not being dramatic here but I simply want to include Stella amongst the greats. It's my priviledge to knowher and to have an insight into whom the person is, and the products of that person's creativity.
All creativity IMHO is a result of transcending pain because it's the sheer courage it takes to go out on a limb and simply create something that has never been done before. To be in a place where there is no-one to hold one's hand, to give guidance, to say well done, to encourage, no one to imitate. It can be a place of real poverty, of scarcity of existence. A place that is lonely and dark and cold. And yet there is nowhere other to go to survive than to continue.
Stella is a national icon in the country of her roots, she is an icon for GLBT. She is of this world and many others, she is from the past, in the zeitgeist and foresees the future because she has an intelligence of the heart.
Just wanted to say that. The irony for a soul as encompassing as Stella's is that there's a certain conformity which is worse than any restraint conceiveable...........there's no such ting as edge play when one is the cutting edge.

That's how I feel also, the piece was very well written.
I am glad that we are lucky enough to have her post here.
She is a breath of fresh air, and a very talented writer.
Is it necessary to agree with everything someone writes, to
enjoy reading their writing?
