Well, speaking of antagonistical....

But this time when I returned to the boards I found a new phenom -- people who have formed a clique, who chase each other around giving each other high fives, posting about r/l meetings (which I suspend judgment on), etc.

It is neither new or a phenomenon.

This clique seems to feel its reason for existing is to run the boards. We have Mods for that -- why the need to add yoursleves en masse to the 'board authorities'?

Think, the mods for one likely have another 'regular folk' nik too for one, and secondly who cares (in regards to timeframe spent) who is here and there and what thread they decide to peek in.
Longtermers or 'familiars' tend to have similar opinions, similar interests.

I very much doubt that anyone in the clique will reexamine their conduct, etc., because of anything I've said, but IMO they detract from the quality of the boards. They interrupt intelligent convos to post 'I like him' or 'I don't like her'; they take up bandwidth with the string of 'group hug' style of posts; they distract people from the Op; they discourage people from attempting to carry on an intelligent convo.

That would be hijacking, up to the mods to decide who and what a deserving penalty (if any) is given.

Why the need to bleat 'approval' of members of the clique?

see above, familiars (friends), interests, opinions. simple.

Why the need to 'broadcast' anything happening (allegedly) in real life?

compared to?? would you prefer: "this is Collarme, please leave your private affairs at the door, this is a make-believe website discussion board ONLY"

NO FACTS OR PREMISE OF ACTUAL EVENTS ALLOWED!!!

What's the payoff?

People hope to never see a real flogger...because that would be just downright uhhh..insane and painful.
