No Thank You ....time to let the other party have residence of the big house. We have to move a little to the left just to undo all the sliding to the right that's been going on the last 8 years

Look.  Assuming Barry is given the nomination, he is going to have a major hurdle from day one.  Some percentage of normally solid, reliable, Democrat party voters WILL NOT vote for him under any circumstances because he is black.  They might vote for a yellow dog with a "D" next to the name, but not a black one.  It might not fit the talking point that all the rascists are Republicans, but it is the reality.

Those votes are going to have to be made up somewhere.  The idealist left/progressive folk had better wake up and get used to shutting up very quickly when Obama reaches out for the votes he will need to actually win.  Yes, Jon Stewart, he is going to break your heart.  Get over it.

Barry?  Gosh Beav, where's Wally and the rest of the gang?

Bush I was a fairly decent President.  Did a better job in foreign policy than Bill and HIllary by a wide margin.

They don`t know that he`s a centrist and always has been. They seem surprised to find out that he`s got a record of working together with conservatives.

Uh, let's see... several publications, ranging form conservative to liberal to non-partisan rank barak hussien obama as the MOST liberal member of the senate. That's not exactly being a "centerist".

I'm sorry, but be warned, this is going to be a sarcastic question.  How can you possibly spell something wrong in reply to someone who has spelled it correctly and you have his quote in front of you?

Please do You really believe the Democrats are Socialist's or is that just a tag line...You know like Mission Accomplished

Fairly decent, I agree.  Still doesn't merit holding him up as someone our next President should try to aspire to become.

I don't think he did a bad job in foreign policy but your comparison to Clinton is lacking, though I'll leave that to another debate.

His primary deficiency was domestic policy.  The things people care about the most.  Read my lips, no new taxes, before he raised taxes.  Remember when he he was questioned by reporters about the costs we all face and he had no clue what a gallon of milk cost?

It's  funny too how his Presidency resembled Jr.'s.  He started off by having a major recession in his first year, which, as I recall, somehow Republicans attributed to Carter even though Reagan had been in office for 8 years.  He also ended it on a recession that somehow Republicans rationalized blaming on Clinton even though the signs of economic downturn were there almost a year before he ever took office.

I seem to recall a Democratic-controlled congress that might possibly have had a hand in that....might even have been the ones introducing the new tax bills before the House of Representatives....

As for the quasi-recessions everyone likes to heap on Bush.....they were nothing compared to the stagflation of the Carter years nor to the fallout of the "dot.com bomb" let loose at the end of the Clinton years.

I'll take a second coming of Bush I over a second coming of Carter any day.

Besides...Carter's the best case for Obama.  The worst case would be the second coming of LBJ.  Either one represents a disaster for this country on all fronts, foreign and domestic.

Face it...the last good Democrat in the White House was Truman.  Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, and Clinton...not exactly an inspiring roster there.

1) voting age kids smell the draft in the air. If McCain gets in, they can flush their lives goodbye to support President "Botch's" pack of lies. So they are motivated to vote, and to vote Democratic in huge numbers.

This is completely absurd. There is no "draft in the air"... There is no place for a draft in the modern military. The days of massed bodies with rifles are long past. The modern military needs skilled technicians not any schmuck they can teach to fire a gun. Even the infantry now is a highly skilled career field, with training requirements well beyond what they can teach some schlemeel pulled in for a year. I mean for christs sake, even regular infantrymen now use night vision goggles, they deploy from helicopters, they work with advanced systems, thermal imaging, GPS, etc etc etc. The days of "Hey Bubba just point your gun at the other guys and do what your Sgt tells you to" are loooooooooooong past.

It is my understanding that Army Basic is something like 9 or 10 weeks now, and then something like 12 or 13 weeks of school, for a regular soldier. So you are looking at almost 6 months from the time somone gets off the bus till the time they hit their first real assignment as a grunt. If they go airborne add another month, If they go Special Forces or EOD or one of the other much needed specialities - add like 40+ weeks to the above.

The modern military has no need for unmotivated short term conscripts who really dont want to be there. They are recruting motivated patriotic people who want a challenge and some of the best job training in the world.  Any talk of a draft is simple fear mongering. The return of the draft is about as likely as the return of the WW1 era biplanes or the black powder musket....

Think again!  Even some liberal Democrats have been calling for reinstatement of the draft.  The Universal National Service Act was proposed by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) last year.

I am a Republican that would vote for a 'Black', if her name was Condelisa Rice..She unfortunately will not be our next President..

You mean another warmongering 'war on terror' neocon ? It was she who publically said...along with Bush and Cheney, that nobody could have imagined terrorists hijacking jet airliners and using them as missiles. ALL the while all 3 knew that the FBI and Air Force among other agencies of the govt. had been studying and working on just exactly that ...FOR 2 YEARS prior to 9/11.

Theoretical targets...you gueesed it, the WTC and the pentagon.

How could it have been otherwise when the air force was conducting 22 possible terrorist 'drills' going on during what...you guessed it, the morning of 9/11.

Does that mean that if there were "warmongering" souls in power 2 years earlier, this would have been prevented?  The crowd in power now were not there 2 years before 9/11.  They had only been put in place 9 months prior (by the books, January 20th 2001).  There was enough missed for everyone to own a share.

I don't know about you, but if I was in a job for 9 months I would think I had better be pretty competent at in that length of time.

I would only support a draft where nobody gets a deferment, nobody.

Two years military w/ full GI benefits or 3 years non-military w/out benefits.Your choice.

Make a note in your diary, O59.  While we could certainly quibble about details, we are on the same page here.

Mandatory national service is something we should take a long, hard look at.

Interesting to note that those who are so highly in favor of it are also those those too old to be required participants.

EVEN some liberal Dems???  I'm pretty sure they are the ONLY ones calling for it, and only as a cheap political stunt.  Which pretty much sums up Charlie Rangel from day one.

Heretic, you are absolutely right. The harnesses are so tight that Naval aviators routinely sustain bruises from them. Anyone claiming bush "stuffed" is stooping to wishful thinking or penis envy. In reality those "balls" were his boxer shorts wadded up under a baggy flight suit with a harness tight enough to allow him to be hoisted by helicopter if needed.

BrittneyLee has an innie, not an external three piece set, and when I took her up in an L-39 she looked like she was hung like a mule because of the parachute harness, hoisting harness, and life vest straps bunching up the flight suit.  Thats the normal flight suit look, probably part of the reason that gold wings and a flight suit mean damp panties in any woman nearby... [:D] One has to wonder exactly why the dems are so fascinated with Bush's crotch though....

Edited to add: Before anyone in an attempt at Bush blasting says "he didnt have to have it that tight"... Yes, he did.A loose harness will break bones during an arrested landing wihich has a vicious deceleration best described as a controlled crash. You also exprience tremendous G forces. I weigh 230 lbs, If I make a 5g maneuver then I am exerting a force of 1150 pounds against the harness.

As for the political stunt   - I see a former fighter pilot, who is the commander and chief of the US Armed Forces, going out to a Navy vessel wearing the appropriate safety attire for anyone flying in a tactical jet. Nothing unusual about a commander going out to review his troops. You can't fly in Viking wearing tennis shoes and a 3 piece suit... I didnt fly the Viking, but I wore that exact same outfit every time I flew in anything with NAVY painted on it - only the squaron and name tag patches were different...

The only reason Rangel wanted (wants) to institute a draft is so that there would be more leverage to end the war in Iraq.  I almost always disagree with his positions on the issues, I do respect his military service and what he did at Kunu Ri.  I simply can't believe the man came out with the reenstatement of the draft with a statement like this "There's no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq, especially on the flimsy evidence that was presented to the Congress, if indeed we had a draft and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm's way."  So yes his resolution was (is) nothing more than a political stunt. Hell, even he voted against his own resolution to bring back the draft.

Some facts seem easy to overlook.
