Hehe, the F-18 practicly flies itself...  I think the only reason they still have jockeys is to make the critical decisions about weapons usage.  No offense DA, but the autopilot in those birds is rather sweet.

No offense taken, I LOATHE the Hornet. Naval aircraft should be made by the Grumman Ironworks.. If it didnt come out of Bethpage Long Island it has no business on a carrier LOL

As for the autopilot though, the 777 is worse. That fucker doesnt have pilots it has programmers. There is ONE "steam gauge" in the whole fucking cockpit and the hardest system to operate is the inflight entertainment. Turbine aircraft are actually kind of a let down - thats why I got the crop dusting gig when I was flying Lears. I wanted to fly an overpowered, overloaded, shifting CG aircraft close to the ground while maneuvering agressively. The whole "dont spill the passengers drinks let the autopilot make standard rate turns isnt fun....

I know we called the F/A-18 the "Plastic fantastic" I really wasnt impressed with em, I thought the A-6 was a much better bird, allthough the having worked on the E/A-6 they really put 20lbs of shit in a 10 lb sack on that one.

I was really sad to see the 14 go, expecially to the crusher, that bird served this country damn well to get such a fate.

Yeah I know, my Intruder is reefed off of Miami. Im tempted to go bring her home one piece at a time... I cannot belive they threw the old girl in the Atlantic so sport divers can gawk and fish can fuck...  [:(] Well at least a few 14's have been saved for NASA, certain defense contractors etc... Clinton really fucked things up when he killed the A-12. I dont care what anyone says the F/A-18 is a mediocre fighter with a few hard points for bombs and the USN now has no decent ground attack aircraft. The thing is like one of those "multifunction copier / printer / fax / telephone / coffeepot / electric toothbrush / vibrator" combos... It does everything half assed and nothing truly well...

Besides - who wants to be a FAG? (Thats what they call Hornet pilots "FAG's" for Fighter Attack Guy) LOL[:D]

Yeah, the F/A-18 isnt exactly pickel barrel material. Nor is it all weather material.

What didnt clinton fuck up?

housesub4you -> RE: Your first car? (7/11/2008 4:54:39 AM)

A 1972 Ford Pinto, the doors where rusted so bad you could see through them.  I would never want that car again.  Now my Chevy Vega........jeez I had shitty cars when I was younger....OMG I have a old Daewoo I'm selling.

I suck at picking out and buying cars

camille65 -> RE: Your first car? (7/11/2008 4:56:35 AM)

Hey mine was a 76 Pinto!
Baby blue and boy did I love that car, until I rolled it. I inherited it from my older sister who took excellent care of it. It was the cutest car.

Nikolette -> RE: Your first car? (7/11/2008 5:02:43 AM)

poo brown 82 chevy hatchback thing.

I loved it. I bought it, in cash, brought the price down by a hundred bucks (it was only going for $400)... It worked great 'cept scary crappy breaks.

Crashed it into another car driving home from work one day. It was this boy I worked with... had a little crush on him. His grandparents were driving a big 'ol boat of a car, barely made a dent and mine folded in like a can! But they were nice and no one was hurt.

I didn't love it because I had a special affinity for poo color, or chevy, or hatchbacks. I loved it because it was my first big purchase (my own cash from my own job- my family wasn't rich or anything) and my first sign of independence as a teen.

I would never buy another one though or anything. Besides, I'm from Missouri and its chilling out on my grandparent's property. I can see it nostalgically whenever I want. But yeah... if it were on mars, awesome, but I'd still never buy another one. Mostly cause of the poo color and tin can experience.

thishereboi -> RE: Your first car? (7/11/2008 5:07:54 AM)

A light blue '63 Rambler. It had been my sisters and when she painted it for graduation, the smiley face on the roof never washed off. It was a very cool car, or at least I thought so and had a bare foot for the gas pedal and one for the bright switch. Not sure if I would want one now, but I had a lot of fun in that car.

Complete thread hijack and a clinton swipe? Niceeeeee.[:-]
Why don't you and DA start a thread about little boys and their big flying toys?

Aileen1968 -> RE: Your first car? (7/11/2008 5:25:44 AM)

My first car was a 78 Ford Thunderbird.  That thing was like a tank.  I learned to parallel park it and have been able to parallel park anything since.  Learning to drive in a big car teaches a lot.  I've always had big cars except for one and always felt so vulnerable in that one.   Crown Victoria,  Bronco (my favorite), little Plymouth Laser, Tahoe, Avalanche and now a Yukon.

SummerWind -> RE: Your first car? (7/11/2008 5:35:48 AM)

1973 Chevy Convertible.....Big......Paid $700.....Bought it from a Marine heading overseas........Mid 80's ....92k miles.....

meatcleaver -> RE: Your first car? (7/11/2008 5:59:58 AM)

Citroen 2CV van http://autotelegraaf.nl/infoenadvies/klassiekercatalogus/?id=91
I had a great time traveling down the west coast of France and to the Riviera. Had quite a few nights wrestling young women in the back.

Damn, I'm glowing with nostalgia at the thought.[:)]

Gotta second that... my first car was a '82 Chevy K-20 (3/4-ton, 4-wheel-drive pickup), and it was a tank. My father ordered it from the factory with a Diesel, 4-speed, and an unusual paint scheme... i put in a bunch of time and money customizing it, and it really stood out. i T-boned a Chevy Beretta at about 25 mph and absolutely destroyed the other car... i drove home.

If it had air conditioning (and a less troublesome transmission... kept eating 3rd-gear synchros) i'd probably still have it.

Termyn8or -> RE: Your first car? (7/11/2008 7:00:55 AM)

pet, if you were tearing up third gear synchros, you weren't shiftingit right. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there was a time before synchros, and just for the hell of it, I am going to ask the olman what his first car was.

He told me about alot of cars. My Mom told me she got pissed off because as soon as she got a car cleaned up, he would sell it. I couldn't tell you all the cars I had, and I doubt he could either, but we'll see if he can remember his first one.

A buddy of mine had a 1950 Chevy, and let me tell you it was a chore to drive.

Then for a time I had a little Dodge D50 which was basically a Mitsubishi. It had such good synchros that I would go to a drive through and when it was time to pull up to the next window I did not put it in gear, I just pushed the shifter toward the first gear position and the truck would move.

As bad as it was, I liked that little shitcan. Then I got pissed and tore the door off of it with my bare hands. The full story would be a hijack so I shall refrain now.

my first car was a 99 ford mustang. Nothing too special but damn I get defensive when Alpha starts rattling off about how shitty fords are. I was paying my mom back for it when we moved and she sold it for a profit... never did get the money I paid her back. grr.

Archer -> RE: Your first car? (7/11/2008 11:31:37 AM)

Well I never got to drive my first car, LOL sad story involving never having gotten the money for insurance before graduation and moving to my Dad's house right after towing it behind the RV and the RV doing a 180 on the freway leaving the towbar unusable. LOL But it was a 1970 Toyota Corona.

The first car I actually got to drive that was mine was a 1976 Toyota Carolla SR5. Took me to college for the first few years, I stck with Toyota for the first 5 cars
Carona 1970, Carolla 1976, Cellica 77, Carolla 1972, Pic Up 81
Of them all I enjoyed the pick up and the cellica best. But the 72  carolla was the best deal ever.
Paid $200 for the car drove it 50K miles and sold it for $400.

philosophy -> RE: Your first car? (7/11/2008 11:49:24 AM)

Heh, i don't drive. i actually like public transport, best place to people watch on the planet....weird i know, but it takes all sorts, yadda yadda.........

popeye1250 -> RE: Your first car? (7/11/2008 11:59:22 AM)

My first car was a '67 Mustang fastback with a 289 c.i. V-8 engine that would scream and go really fast for a small car like that, it was canary yellow.
I ended up throwing it off of a cliff.
Again, another long story.
