Phil Gramm.

The guy who crafted McCain`s economic platform(while being payed to lobby against mortgage reform),the guy who you curse at the gas pump for bringing us the "Enron loophole",....that guy,says we are in a mental recession(not a real one) and whiners.

Can Gramm spell elitist?

Just who the fuck are these guys?

But, let's just stop for a second.

Consider other people's opinions for one minute. (In case anyone's wondering....that'd be....anyone else's but yours).

Truly.

We won (with others) the second world war...and we spent 40 years crowing about it.  Wonderful stuff indeed.  No doubt about it...we saved the world.  Great.

Done.  Let's move on.

We spent as long telling everyone (on the entire planet) how great we were...and for a time, they believed us.  People flocked to our shores.  We could afford...the least of us...every possible, conceivable, permutation of every derivation of the latest tech anything.

If it existed, it was available with 60 "easy monthly payments" to any one of us.

People across the globe watched "Dallas" and all the jewels, every possible car you could imagine...and a bank account that never ended.

Even Americans wondered how people could live like this....but...everyone else on the planet thought you....we...me....all lived like this.

And then Reagan came in and demanded that we should all have these things...he supposed it on the world until The Wall fell...because we could have it all.

And so should they.

And they believed us....except for one thing....we didn't let them have it.

We demanded they come over here...except for one thing....we limited immigration...so, they actually couldn't have it...and then over time....20 years....

They found out, we'd actually been borrowing all the money from them....to get these things.  While we considered our monthly Best Buy or SEARS bill...the rest of the world was working on having 2 bags of rice instead of 1.75.

And so now, they're a smidge pissed, because the truth is, we lied to them, and now that we're sitting here wondering why WE.....AMERICANS....duty bound, and deservedly so as to wealth....have to suffer through this....why we're upset...and can't figure out why this "is happening to us"....while they're sitting there thinking...."Uhhhmmm...it's relatively obvious..."...

Phil Gramm is a student of the world....and he was only commenting on the facts....Americans are sitting here wondering....whining is a fair description....how come we have to suffer?

Well, we've been a little greedy....we haven't demanded of our legislators that we get off this fix...and it isn't just oil.

Phil Gramm was right.  He wasn't trying to be PC.

He was just stating the facts.

It isn't our right to usurp the worlds energy....and, more importantly...we have uniquely, as a world power, the incredible ability to find better alternatives...AND turn it against those towel heads.

Stop thinking you have some sort of God given right to this shit.

You don't.

You have a God given right to think for yourself.

You have a God given right to try to be smarter than everyone else on the planet...and that requires effort....in excess of everyone else...which means you need to get up earlier than everyone else....and go to bed later....and if you do...you have a fair chance of standing on the platform at the end of the day when they hand out the gold.

But NOT because you happen to have better access to HD satellite cable where you have access to the latest and greatest.

Oprah and Susie Orman don't have all the facts.

The best and greatest is you....if you give it your all.

That's what Phil Gramm was talking about (before the PC police chucked him to the curb).

Griswold, I'm not going to "quote" that because it is so long, but bravo - you understand! Thanks for stating it so clearly.

(edited to add -  I cannot say I am a fan of Mr. Graham in general, but I don't think he was wrong in this particular instance.)

"Phil Gramm is a student of the world....and he was only commenting on the facts....Americans are sitting here wondering....whining is a fair description....how come we have to suffer?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All that huff and puff and nothing as to my point.
Phil Gram is more than a student of the world.Who are you kid`n?
He`s a connected and powerful lobbyist/ex-Senator who just happens to be the "father of the Enron loophole" and he`s also knee deep in the sub-prime mortgage fiasco.
If he was someone else and not someone directly connected with the high energy prices and the oil speculators who drove up the price,then he might have a point.
But he`s not.As the man who`s responsible for the un-regulated energy speculators favorite law,"the Enron loophole", and he has some fucking nerve making such a comment.
If he was someone other than a guy lobbying against mortgage rules reform,then he might have some credibility.But he`s one of the ass-clowns fucking us(the meddle class) and has no right to chide us.
It`s like a con-man laughing at and teasing crime victims for being upset and pissed off.In fact,Gramm is one of the very last guys in the world who should be making stupid comments like that.
Gramm should be apologizing to Americans,not thumbing his nose at us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Update:as I predicted,Mclobbyist has thrown Gramm under the "Straight Talk Express" and now says that Gramm "doesn`t speak for him".

The  hemoraging continues.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This thread`s been hijacked and twisted a bit.
People should get off their high-horses,leave Hanable alone and stay on topic.
The point of my post and comments have to do with the guy who helped create this trillion dollar mess (Gramm)and his dark,nasty selfish remarks to those who might speak up.
If you support Gramm`s right to pee on us after he fucked us,go ahead and defend him.
If you think that one of the guys who fucked us should STFU and not add insult to injury,then that`s perfectly reasonable.
If anyone wants to talk/argue about something other than Gramm`s comments or his malfeasance,please start another thread.
