Phil Gramm. The guy who crafted McCain`s economic platform(while being payed to lobby against mortgage reform),the guy who you curse at the gas pump for bringing us the "Enron loophole",....that guy,says we are in a mental recession(not a real one) and whiners. Interesting that you didn't include what McCain said about these remarks... Hmmm, perhaps it is time to start posting what some of Obama's advisors, you would be amazed at some of the things that have come out of the mouth of Axelrod. Good to see you are trying to be fair and report things for discussion.

Actually I think it would help things a great deal if many of the people in this country could pull up thier skirt and quit thier bitching, get a job, and stop with all the whining and the feelings stuff. Life is hard, get used to it, work hard, make somthing for yourself, dont be the next asshat looking for a handout because of your sexual orientation, gender, color of your skin, or what ever invisible man it is that you prey to. Really I think we should all sit down and crack open a case of live and let live and we would be a lot better off.

We are whiners. But that doesnt mean that the standard of living has [not] declined over the past 30 years.... it doesnt mean doublke digit inflation on needed stuff isnt happening. Ill get him a room with Allen Greenspan... they can celebrate "irrational exhuberance"

Americans are working harder and longer than ever in history.Two spouses working,people working 2nd and 3rd jobs is normal and Americans are taking less vacation time every year, on average. Add to that flat wages for the last 6 years and gas prices tripling,food going up,etc. If it cost you a thousand bucks a year to heat your house in '2000',(about a buck a gal,then)it now costs you $4000 a year. If you were just getting by in the year '2000',$3000 more, is a real hit.For some,it`s the difference between having heat or food.Or between heat or a vital prescription. The job cuts and layoffs nationwide aren`t helping. Not sure who Phil Gramm is talking about,though.Who is he referring to? Average Americans? It`s the average Americans, that are really hurting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Phil Gramms and John McCains of the world really don`t have real jobs with real work to do. They have huge expense accounts and receive hundreds of thousands in pay and bennies.They have a payed staff ,Chauffeurs,secretaries and assistants,aids and gofers. They don`t grocery shop,pay bills,run errands,sweat rent/mortgage payments or punch a time clock. No wonder they don`t have a grasp on why people are antsy and anxious. Americans have been doing the right things and working harder to keep up.It`s not their fault,what`s happened to them.There aren`t very many alternatives for families,businesses and farms.The fuel the heats homes and runs farm tractors and industry can`t be gotten in any other way. Are the un-empathetic suggesting that we all should suck it up and get fucked by Exxon/Mobil,.....and not complain? That`s asking a bit much.

You must have missed Obama's comment during the primaries. See what he says about bein upset because of how fast the prices went up, that should open your eyes. I do finally agree with you though, Obama is the candidate of change, he is constantly changing his positions on policies... public financing, pulling troops out of Iraq, 2nd ammendment and gun bans, FISA,...

Actually Owner McCain is right. My standard of living has improved and I see no downturn in the economy...People here in Houston are spending freely, buying consumer goods, eating out, I dont see any belt tightening at all. If anything, things are booming! I cant go to the store to get a pack of smokes without driving past a half a dozen help wanted / now hiring signs. I routinely get inquiries about private pilot training (which I dont offer except to special people like girlfriends, teenage children of clients etc) which is a hobby that costs $100+ an hour to participate in. The dive boats and fishing charters in Galveston are packed... things are JUST GREAT! Im dont see this "recession" and I think people need to cowboy the fuck up and get over it. You arent gonna make $50,000 a year putting hubcaps on cars anymore. Those days are past our economy is now tech and service oriented instead of manufacturing oriented. Adapt or starve. Im surrounded by "average americans" - hell britt is a brand new college grad with a brand new mustang converible, a ford ranger pickup and a Harley. Her moms a housewife, her dads a NON UNION refinery welder, and as of August shes a 2nd grade teacher... Hardly "privelaged" yet she came out of school with 2 cars a motorcycle and a $42,000 a year job with full bennies and retirement in 20 years. She got there working in Walgreens and as a Bar Maid... My whole street is full of average americans with 4000 - 5000 sq foot homes, 2 - 5 cars in the driveways, boats in the backyard, etc and these people work for NASA, Continental Airlines, ExpressJet, The Port of Houston, themselves, etc... Sorry that people who work in the car wash think there is a recession but I can get my Eddie Bauer, BMW, or Vette washed for free with a gas fill up at the local Conoco so they need to find something more profitable to do than to wait on me to come for a car wash LOL... Word of advice to all the Dems, burn your union cards and you might keep your jobs... Otherwise they are going to Mexico cause nobody wants to pay $48 an hour for a widget assembler anymore... The socialist sense of entitlement priced them out of the market...

I think he's right. We are a bunch of whiners. Americans believe that the "American Dream" is a birthright. They seem to think that somehow the government owes it to them to save them from every bad decision they make. Maybe people are working harder these days, but what they seem to think they need is FAR more too. Thirty years ago houses were smaller and plainer, a lot of families on ly had one car, most meals were eaten at home, clothing wasn't designer, appliances were meant to last, not be upgraded every 18 mos. and plastic surgery was something for the mega wealthy. Things that were once considered luxuries are now considered necessities. We're spoiled. People need to stop living for the best-case scenario and start living for the worst. They need to save some money and build some stability for themselves, instead of depending on the government to do it for them. AND our country needs to do the same thing!

You go over to Europe and they shrug their shoulders trying to figure out why Americans are so angry with gas prices. They pay $9 a gallon in Europe. Remember it was Obama that told people in Michigan that there needs to be retraining programs. In other words, even he has aknowledged that those manufacturing jobs are now gone and they are not coming back. Not only that, but Obama does not differ with McCain on free trade. He has no intention of changing or backing out of NAFTA. So what we have here is a change in the American work force. The manufacturing jobs are dying out. People who are in those jobs who dont have college degrees and dont have many other job skills are going to suffer unless they find ways to develop other skills.

....take the recession out of it.....He's right.....I deal with alot of different people during a given day.........all day long I hear non stop whining......at work....at the diner....at the bar...on these boards....Take a day and count the number of times someone points out what's wrong with things......you'll be amazed .....we've become so numb to it that we don't realize how many times a day someone rags about someone or something....... The weather, taxes, traffic, the food, the price of something, the government, their pay, their boss, their team, their job, their neighbors....it never fucking ends..... Damn it......I'm pretty sure I just got sucked in to complaining......about complainers.....see, it's fucking everywhere..... It's beautiful day, it's payday, had a great time with my neighbors last night, going to the butcher to pick up BBQ supplies .......that's better....

Yes, we've been hearing this same tired refrain since NAFTA was passed in the Clinton years. So what happened? We were told that this was going to be a high-tech service economy. Everyone went out and sought computer training. We were supposed to be the leading edge of a new economy, where manufacturing was to be replaced by equally high-paying technology jobs. Ten years later and all the computer jobs started being outsourced to India and other countries. Just like the manufacturing jobs. Cheap labor and corporate greed. What should people train for next? The only jobs that are going to be left are at the place with the blue vests and smiley faces that stocks their shelves with everything China can produce.
