From literature, cinema, theater, whatever.

A while back, there was a posting asking about your favorite dom/me-esque character. However, I've been thinking lately that there's a serious dearth of kick-ass submissive characters in fiction...even the slaves tend to be dominant who win their way to freedom and then become kick-ass.

Some of the fun ones from the dominant thread included: Hannibal Lecter, James Bond, Cat Woman, Frodo, King Triton (...?), and the list continued for 5 pages.

As far as characters that are really submissive... I can only think of a short list of two: Sam Gamgee from Lord of the Rings, and Patroclus from the Achilles myth.

So, how about it? Is it true that submissives just don't make for good story fodder? Surely there must be some kick-ass subbies backing up all the fictional dominants?

Meredith Gentry from Laurell K Hamilton's Faerie series is in many ways a kick ass-subbie.

I hope hope hope this doesn't annihilate your thread.

The most famous story-submissive in the world is Jesus of Nazareth.

I think we'd need some evidence on this one...being leader of the foremost religion in the world isn't a good case for submissiveness. I

Damn , now I feel bad.  I'm not going to try to justify it, because it would start derailment of what you wanted to be a fun thread.  So just ignore that and let's do...

Thufir Hawat (for a while) - Dune
Tonto - The Lone Ranger
Robin - Batman and Robin
Aunt May - SpiderMan

I certainly love my d/s story lines in books, but I'd have to say my absolute fav would have to be "Marina" the mermaid character I created in my head as a child. Marina was with me all though childhood and into adolescence. She was created one summer when I was my daily chore was being "forced" to water the grass. Ever after anything I was made to do that I initially didn't like or thought of as a chore was immediately given to Marina to do as her "slave task". Sometimes she'd do it cheerfully, with a glad heart for her Master, to whom she was secretly in love. And sometimes she'd do it with thoughts of rebellion and spite in her heart, but she always did them.

As Marina aged, her imaginary slave senarios became more elaborate and sensual (In her own head of course). And though I have not created a story line for Marina in many a year, it is her tales of mermaid slavedom that have always most captured my heart.

;o)

Minx, I love this!  That's beautiful.

I, too, have a character of my own making, who's dear to me - a vampire who is only submissive to one person, and their adventures, together.  I cast myself as that one person.

Okay, you got me.  Now I'm going to have to start a thread in, "Ask a Mistress."

CHEWBACCA!
Sorry i had to. But seriously i'd have to say Alfred from Batman.
Yes i know he's a bit of a smart ass, but his loyalty, compassion, and dignified demeanor make him a wonderful character to look up to. Not to mention his skills as a butler. Seriously, one butler for en entire mansion? WHAT!? And some friggin' cave-turned-secret lair?! Here's to ya' Alfred!

I think the key group to think of here are "sidekicks".
So, um. Gabrielle or Xena, depending on how you assess the relationship. ;P

See, now, I would have to say Anita Blake... I could almost bring myself to accept submission under the terms she submitted under... maybe...
