Meredith Gentry from Laurell K Hamilton's Faerie series is in many ways a kick ass-subbie.

Was she really a submissive, though, or just a huge slut who liked to bottom? (no offense intended to huge sluts who like to bottom, of course!)

Both of mine have already been mentioned... Jacqueline Carey's Phedre, and Laurell Hamilton's Nathaniel (although the whole "fixing his submissiveness" thing bugs me)

I hope hope hope this doesn't annihilate your thread.

The most famous story-submissive in the world is Jesus of Nazareth.

I consider him a switch, but yeah on the submissive part he would rock for me.[:D]

Sancho Panza.  I like comic relief.

Perhaps Mammie from GWTW.

Humphrey Bogart in "The African Queen".  He finally found the courage to be the man he always wanted to be, and doing anything he could to please Hepburn.  He was strong, resourceful, and in the end, his love for her was such that he would do anything in the world for her.  Wow, I love that movie.  And let's face it, the scene with the leeches was pretty damn hot.  Charlie is one hell of a subby role model, IMHO.

Yeah really! But I guess you always have a spot in your heart for your 'first'. For me it was 'O' as a story and Bridget Bardo as a woman. Neither have aged well.

UR2Badored -> RE: Who's your favorite fictional submissive-type character? (7/23/2008 8:16:08 AM)

Audrey Hepburn as Sister Luke in The Nun Story.

Edited:  I read the first page after this post, and I have to agree with the classic sitcom submissives below:

ooooh now if we are going for firsts .... Sara in The Little Princess ... honest, open, graceful, caring, loving, loyal, stoic, gracious ... and a clever little smart arse to boot.

shadowcd -> RE: Who's your favorite fictional submissive-type character? (7/23/2008 8:37:21 AM)

Chyio:  In Memories of a Geisha
Lee Halloway:  In Secretary

and a couple that may not be true submissives but never the less are submissive for  a time.
Andy Sachs:  In Devil wears prada (maybe a little boarderline but never the less she finds her self through submission)
Ella:  In Ella Enchanted (The gift of Obediance from her fairy godmother heh perhaps not exactly a submissive but I just love that movie) :P

undergroundsea -> RE: Who's your favorite fictional submissive-type character? (7/23/2008 9:48:51 AM)

I have heard several votes for the guy in The Princess Bride in similar past discussions.

Cheers,

Since the title of the thread was "who is your favorite"...Sam Gamgee.

As for other submissive characters in fiction goes...

Olan the wife from The Good Earth.
The son from D.H. Lawrences' book Sons and Lovers.  Its been a long time since I read it and I can not remember his name...wasnt fond of the book.  At one point he even tells his girlfriend he is her boot boy.
John Allday from Alexander Kents "Bolitho" naval fiction series.  He is the hero's Coxswain.

Oh, yes. My favorite movie, too! I am nothing like Buttercup, though. :P

Undergroundsea beat me to it, but yes westley from Princess Bride would get my vote.

willowspirit -> RE: Who's your favorite fictional submissive-type character? (7/23/2008 12:02:30 PM)

I agree with shadowcd -- the leads in both Memiors of a Geisha  and  Ella Enchanted.

Add to them:
Sabrina
Maggie in  Runaway Bride
Mia in The Princess Diaries
Three of the main characters in The Last Samurai   -- Cruise's and Ken Watanabe characters. PLUS the Japanese widow Nathan Algren lived with.  Both the Cruise and Watanabe roles may seem like Dominants to others .. But I see them  as examples of the truest forms of  "Good and faithful servants".
.. and Black Beauty -- yes... the horse.

beltainefaerie -> RE: Who's your favorite fictional submissive-type character? (7/23/2008 12:21:18 PM)

Absolutely!  Phedre is amazing!
