Phen'e no Delaney from the Kushel series, which is fairly new/ current. It might be more on point to call her masochist, but I love this series!!

On Literotica.com there is an author "Singularity".  He has written many short stories around a central character: Michelle. She was my first exposer to the "lifestyle" Of course now, many years down the road with real time experience, i know better. But she did intice me to look further, for which i am not sorry.

Raven in the Dark Prince by Christine Feehan. A good book with some d/s elements in it. The story line is a little racy at times :)

Kim Basinger in '9 & a half weeks

~Fast Reply~

Phedre beats everyone, hands down, for me.

I just feel a connection to the character.

Lashra -> RE: Who's your favorite fictional submissive-type character? (1/20/2009 8:59:15 PM)

Stimpy from Ren and Stimpy. That poor cat tried his hardest to make that Dom Ren happy....
Nathaniel from the Anita Blake series
Lurch from The Addams Family..big strong guy, very quiet, does what he is told and scares the crap out of people, my kind of subbie.

I have heard several votes for the guy in The Princess Bride in similar past discussions.

Cheers,

Hells yeah! Wesley was Buttercup's slave from the start and even though he had to take on an active role in saving her it all relates to chivalry and courtly love and all that, he's still totally submissive to her.

Gotta agree on Nathaniel, Lashra *grin* mmmmmm

DavanKael -> RE: Who's your favorite fictional submissive-type character? (1/20/2009 9:08:15 PM)

Nathaniel from the Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton
Phedre from the Kushiel series by Jacquelline Carey
The girl played by Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Secretary
Kim Basinger's character in 9 1/2 weeks
Justin from the American version of Queer as Folk
I am sure there are more.  :>

One of my two favorites would be Christine from The Phantom of the Opera... especially if you read the Susan Kay story Phantom which goes into his backstory and gets deeper into the character's heads than is possible in a live performance.

Not referring to the Susan Kay version but just the original, I would actually argue Christine was not submissive. Actually I think the Phantom is more so, because despite basically forcing her to come back with him he does want to worship her and treat her as his princess.

Moving on to my actual favorite fictional s-types, absolutely hands down, both Angel and Spike from BtVS, just at different points (Angel in the early seasons and Spike mostly seasons 5-7.)

Oddly, these were my picks for favorite dom too but at different points in their evolution over the course of the show.

I'll place a 3rd vote for Phedre from the Kushiel's Dart series.   We've already had two votes as far as I can tell.  Maybe we should actually make a formal poll and see who else agrees?

I've read those books so many times already and I'm still hooked.

BTW...I would venture a suggestion that Arwen from LOTR was also a bit of a submissive.  It took her until the 3rd book/movie for her to defy her father...

Undoubtedly for me, Phedre too.  (think that makes 7 votes now)
And would certainly recommend the books to anyone.  Well written and intelligent, and puts the beauty and strength of character inherent in submission across eloquently.

Methinks J Carey, has more than a passing acquaintance of what she writes.............

Jareth from the Labyrinth.  He may be the Goblin King and have thousands at his beck and call, but when confronted by Sarah, he "turns the world upside down, and [he has] done it all for [her]."
Love it!

Though she claimed not to, last I read [:D]

They really are wonderful books... my second favorite submissive comes from them, too... Sidonie (from the second trilogy). She's almost *exactly* like me when it comes to BDSM ideals, 'cept female [:D]

Concur. The series is about a lot more than sex, it's very well-written alternate history, but those few moments when she's with a certain right/wrong person are exquisite. :)

Yuko from Shogun, and of course, Lois Lane!
