That would depend on the sub, the offense, the relationship, and other contextual factors. A sub who frequently disobeyed or refused would not last long.

I agree with so many of the oppinions so far

personally I'm most interested in the WHY first...once I understand all that then I will decide a) if a punishment is neccesary b) what the punishment is.

a few of the classics:

writing lines (hand writing a punishment sentence repeatedly) i.e. "I will not sue the creater of the Satanic Hampster Dance because it was entertaining to thousands of people and due to parody laws it was not an infringment of my copyright laws" written 500 times

Kneeling on grains of rice on a hard surface. I've not done this but I've heard it SUCKS!

Holding a glass of water in your hand out in front of you while walking around in circles (without spilling a drop)

standing still balancing a glass of water in each palm(or on the back of your hands)

scrubbing the kitchen or bathroom with a toothbrush...

those are classics... get creative!

If a sub said no to anything she didnt want, or was on her no list, then of course no punishment. If she already said it was a good thing, and then changed her mind, she could be punished. Punishment mostley consists of no words from the Master, or no meetings, or to be ignored, or nothing of her favorite passion. That is usually felt the most. If a sub says a safe word "no" in a session, that also does not count as being disobedient -- no punishment.

I personally like "corner time" it shows I am displeased, it give them time to reflect, it does not encourage disobediance by punnishing them in a way they desire.

My favorite way of correcting a disobedient sub would be through doing things she dislikes which are not exactly hard limits. For example, if she dislikes being tickled, then I'd tickle her while she is in bondage. If it is caging (unless she is claustrophobic), then I'd put her in a cage for up to 30 minutes. And as someone already said, it depends on the circumstances, but also to add to this, this is one of the reasons why this aspect of a D/s relationship must be discussed before entering into one so that no one gets hurt or has to call 911. But then, a good harsh spanking before putting a sub in a cage isn't a bad idea, either! Lol

Before we suggest things like butt plugs with tiger balm, or stapling her labia closed for a week, lets go back to the begining.

For my own purposes, I have divided this area into two sections, discipline & punishment.

The first question to be answered is "why", was it from lack of knowledge or instruction, was it out of ignorance, was a lesson not properly learned, or was it deliberate and out of malice.

Discipline is a tool used to reinforce or to educate a lesson not learned. This follows the thought that there is something constructive to learn. Or something done under derrest, or out of suprise. Like farting in a crowded theater, you didnt mean to, you didnt plan it, it just happened, and now you have to deal with it.

Punishment is a tool used to correct something done with malice, done with full knowledge of wrong, it includes premeditated.

I once let a girl sit at an airport for 17 hours while I was parked outside the terminal, when she asked why I said "you aren't the only one who sometimes just wants to see what will happen. It was a Harsh Punishment, but she didn't do it again.

He asks me why if I don't volunteer it. Which is what anyone should do because they never know what is behind it.

Some years ago on b.com, a sub posted about going to a routine mammogram, being told she needed an immediate biopsy and was scheduled for three days later. She got home, and her dom/husband announced his plans for the afternoon including caning her breasts. She said no and couldn't even tell him what had happened that morning. Worse his immediate reaction was to remove her collar, tell her what a bad sub she was, etc. He overheard her the next day on the phone asking her sister to accompany her for the biopsy and then realized what he had done wrong. Luckily the biopsy was negative but it took over six months before she agreed to return to a power relationship with him.

It's easy to respond in anger, but if the relationship is good, then a one time refusal shouldn't break it. If it does, then that's a sign of a bad relationship.

umm, believe or not i haven't been punished for anything yet, although the other day daddy got a little fussy with me for a second, he was using his belt on me, and i moved my hand over the spot where he really let me have it, and he told me i better never do that again. Another time, and this happened months and months ago before i realized that calling him by his first name was a major no, no. He said something very funny on the phone and i started laughing and called out his first name, well his reply was what did you just call me, and i said oops did i mess up and he said yep you did, and don't do it again. Another time, i forgot to turn my cell phone back on after leaving the Doctor's office and he couldn't get ahold of me for awhile. But when i realized what i had done and told him the truth, he just said, stuff like that happens and just check next time. But actually i haven't been punished yet thank GOD.... Because he only has one method of punishment, and that of silence for however long he chooses.
which that would rip out my heart and kill me probably. No communication what so ever... Wicked but quite affective....

I have My slaveboy write me a paragraph or two about what he did wrong and why, and how he'll avoid making the same mistake in the future. That way there are no failures, only lessons learned.

he does know that if he shows a pattern of willful disobedience over time, it is cause for release. So he's a very good boy for Me.

As for punishment...you've already gotten some good suggestions. I agree with ti depending one what and why...find out the reason behind saying no. If it's a continuous thing, then you need to review the relationship...if it's only happened a couple times, then have the punishment fit the crime..as in what was the reson for the no and go accordingly..for a first time..I wouldn't punish, justa firm talking to and warning for a second comeing.

I would say to find out why they said no or disobeyed.

I have only been punished once. I agree - I acted poorly. However, my Master never knew why until after the punishment. He was so shocked by my reason that He has always taken the time to find out why ever since.

I am a slave, yet I am allowed to say at the beginning of a session, "Can we please avoid x because..." and give a valid excuse. They have always been health related issues, and I rarely ask for an exception. If I were only to refuse something once the session started and gave no explanation then I would deserve a punishment. In my case it was a triple spanking - hand, paddle and crop until I cried. (I am not a masochist so there was no pleasure in this.) Once the punishment was over I was forgiven and told it would be as if the entire incident never happened. We started with a clean slate. I think that is as important as the punishment itself.
