Thanks for the info. That may give me a starting place, at least.

The scarf in the picture is at LionBrand.com.

(The pattern is free, but you may have to get a free account and log on to see the pattern.)

thanks for that link fluffy, I subscribed now there as well for their patterns. Some weeks ago I subscribed to this one (you might know that already, I suppose),

http://www.knittingforcharity.org/

I haven't had the time yet to view it much about how useful it is but so far I just move all their newsletters with patterns into a subsection in my email account, named "knitting", so I know where to find them once I have the time (after 3rd december hopefully as there is my deadline for resubmitting my dissertation).

My first project will be my pair of socks as well as "toy food" as I am going to knit and crochet 25 items for my ex for his advents calendar next year (in the past he did throw away the decorative parts which I wanted to keep to reuse or to sell on ebay, after it was finished, and using those it won't cost me a fortune and he is more than welcome to throw them away afterwards [:)]).

Therefore I am going to knit and crochet stuff like fruits, sandwiches, cakes, pizza, teapot etc. I think that will help me to improve my knitting and crochetting skills as well as my patience with it, as those items don't have to be "perfect" just good enough to give it to him (will put his lil pressies inside) and also will keep me occupied when my studies are finally over...and as in the past (did his calendars in 2006 and 2007, none in the last 2 years) he will have no idea about my way how it will be presented...[:)]

Just got back from Walmart and no measuring tape.   Guess I have to steal the small construction tape...

Knitting or crocheting little foods sounds very ambitious.   At least it is one way to use up bits of different colored yarn.

well, its just that my skills are very limited indeed and I need some time to improve them...so I thought that way I am going to increase my skills and still do something useful with it (as I will need it for him, which keeps my motivation on doing it up).

Originally I hoped to do a pizza for him this year so instead of a calendar he gets a lil pressies once a week within a pizza slice (as I have neither the funds to do him a proper one nor the time). But as now the resubmission date at uni is at the beginning of december I know I can bin that idea...therefore nope...I will do all of it next year for him for the end of the year.

he doesn't eat sweets at all but one of the sweet stuff I will be knitting or crochetting for him I will put in an original box in which I got my dessert recently from a pizza deliverer, as that remained clean...so I am sure he will be irritated why he gets a box, which claims to have "chocolate melt" in it when I know he dosn't eat sweets in any way, shape or form...but thats just me, trying to do it as complete/perfect as possible....when I do him a pizza next year he will receive it in a pizza delivery box as well [:)]

But sadly this year is just no way to get my head around for it, considering uni has to be my focus to finish it off [8|]

So I am prepared, have my books with instructions how to do it, have a fair amount of wool and needles and hooks...just can't get started yet [&o] but will update you during the next year [:)]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/19/2010 7:43:19 AM)

Mom is saying that I am not crocheting, but playing my online game instead.  She forgets that I am listening to the UT game, making sure that my game does not go into rest time and crocheting...I am a multi-tasker...

I also look up words for her cross puzzles.

It is at least a one MD, 3 teas kinda day unless I get the litter bottle of code Red, then that means that I am in serious tasker mood.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/19/2010 11:49:16 AM)

DBNY is having a sale that ends tonight.

If you buy $25 of a certain yarn, you will get a fresh undied hank of yarn for free.  Perfect for the dyers in the group (on budget, so I cannot play).

This message brought to you by a sleepy hooker...

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/19/2010 7:54:32 PM)

i finished knitting the first of the 3 hoodies.  i tried to be very grown-up and sew it together before starting the next one.
YAY, me!  i did it!
All it needs is the buttons - which i still have to buy.  Since all three hoodies are the same color and two of them are the same size, i thought i would make the buttons different.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/19/2010 8:16:03 PM)

I should get the last of the yarn for the butterfly afghan tomorrow  I am having some trouble with the icy snowflake afghan though.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/20/2010 9:58:44 AM)

Mitts are DONE, and there is enough yarn in the skein for another, shorter pair!! HUZZAH!! This means I can do the pattern tweaking, and come up with a design I can make and sell. The ones I did are Cheryl Potter, and the THUMBS are too big! Freakin ODD. Love that alpaca, though!

I bought a lot of ceramic glaze, so did NOT approach the DBNY white sale. Though I have inherited a BIGASS BOX of dyes!! So handpainting on a larger scale is so much in my future OH YEAH!

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/20/2010 10:26:57 AM)

The last of the Funny Prints are in and it does not really look the same.  Maybe because the 2 skeins I had were the super size ones.  I can at least make a doll blanket out of this one.

PeanutTigerinBox -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/20/2010 11:53:28 AM)

is there nowhere a function to hide a thread [&o] I hate it that I can't get started yet [&o]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/20/2010 1:56:38 PM)

The starting end?  I usually crochet the end when I am coming back on row 1.

I don't know a thing about knitting.

I went to Walmart and they just happened to have of the Funny Prints that I needed.

I have you know that both Red Heart and Bernat sells their yarn a heck of a lot more than Walmart and Hobby Lobby.

I need to find if Tyler has a HB or Micheals...

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/21/2010 3:03:12 PM)

Lesson 1:  You can crochet or knit when the AC is on.

Lesson 2:  You can crochet or knit when you are riding on the bus, EL or the Metro.

Lesson 3:  You cannot crochet or knit if your are the person in charge of the map (but I know that Boston was on the purl)

Lesson 4:  You can start projects but cannot handle the big ones when the AC is gone.

Lesson 5:  Someone get that cute AC guy back here...I can pretend that I am working on the peace sign afghan...

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/23/2010 7:16:37 AM)

I got the butterflies afghan done...*bows to the people*

I got enough of the funny prints left to make a butterfly pillow.

Now...I can get started on the butterfly pillow or the peace sign...I am putting B's (aunt 1) to the side because I am needing more instruction on it.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/24/2010 4:00:46 AM)

I got the crochet stitch bible yesterday...ooohhhhhhhhhhhhh....this makes me happy...

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/27/2010 3:54:44 AM)

I admit it...I got the couch covered with various projects.  I will clean it up this morning...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hookers (9/27/2010 9:40:49 AM)

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hookers (9/27/2010 10:45:29 AM)

Here is a pic of the first hoodie.  It still needs 2 buttons.  It is for a red headed 1yr old girl.
