I second guess myself all the time. When I am writing or speaking I will use a word then wonder if I used it correctly or I will wonder if I spelled something correctly. Often it may be very simple words that will look incorrect to me when they are fine. Go figure? This is after I majored in Technical Writing and at the time I was the go to person when it came to spelling or grammer. Twelve years later and I don't know my its from my it's.

Okay, I get riled up when "lie" and "lay" get misused. All the time, it seems.

Lie is intransitive. It is not a verb that acts on some object.
Lay is transitive. It does act on an object.

So you LIE down.
And you LAY somebody.
