[:)]  yummy. Can you imagine even caring if fast food places were banned? No.  What on earth kid of nutritional value do people expect for food that has a 99 cent menu and comes in a paper bag through a window?
Fast Food Nation indeed .Close them all.

kittinSol -> RE: South Los Angeles banning new fast food outlets (7/30/2008 8:09:49 PM)

Oh! How CAN you? What about your freedom? Everybody knows a nation's freedom is in direct correlation with its numbers of fast food outlets.

Vendaval -> RE: South Los Angeles banning new fast food outlets (7/30/2008 8:11:28 PM)

DarkSteven,

Municipalities have zoning laws and planning departments that regulate what kind and how many types of businesses are located in a particular area.  Fast food outlets, liquor stores, head shops and adult toy stores are often regulated under these laws.

Well as long as it is not in direct correlation to a nations health. Let's not worry about wiretapping and FBI surveiallance, let's take to the streets if they intrude on our freedom to stuff ourselves on nutrional waste. America, we're #1. [8|]

I don't think foie gras is exactly loaded with nutritional value.  Just because you're not ordering it from a clown's head doesn't make it healthy.  Fast food is not something that is new.  Street vendors selling everything from kabobs to tacos to hot dogs are selling fast food.  It's a significant part of our culture and history.  So I would care, and so should everyone who gives a damn about that shared culture and history.

Since it's a Wednesday and no one was avaliable; I celebrated my birthday today at my favorite hole in the wall, Chinese take out joint.  It wasn't healthy and it was cheap, but it was damn good.  I don't want places like that banned, anymore than I want the beer banned that I washed it down with.

Wrong!

Foie gras is surprisingly low in bad fats and high in good fats. Many studies conducted by well-known and respected authorities have proven foie gras is as healthful as any other meat, although moderation is the key. We know that France consumes the largest portion of the world’s foie gras production; yet, there are fewer cardio-vascular diseases in France than in the USA, and the life expectancy is slightly higher in France. So, is it foie gras, the cheese or the wine?
Though the method of preparation, the grade, and the individual bird that produced the foie gras will impact the exact nutritional Information, these are the approximate values per 100 grams (3.53 ounces) of foie gras.

Foie Gras for All!

Aynne -> RE: South Los Angeles banning new fast food outlets (7/30/2008 8:20:49 PM)

Slaveboy I am certain that fois gras is not causing america's rampant obesity problem. As far as food on the street sold by vendors, that is a form of fast food, sure, but it is more often than not a local, and a cultural product made from actual food, not chicken asses and elbows. I love little take out places that peddle cheap, fresh healthy fare and local specialities. Barbeque, lobster rolls, hot dogs, Indian,  whatever it is, great. But I don't compare that to the sludge that mega giant corporate fast food chains peddle. They are miles apart.

I should never have read the Weatherman Manifesto. [;)] Probably on a list somewhere now, drat.
Nice post on the fois gras.

There are fat rich people.   They are the greedy ones who make life suck for the poor people.
I would hate to see what they would do to Fried Chicken out there.
This makes me curse and throw rocks.

Aynne, all of these "mega giant corporations" started off as mom and pop operations.  McDonalds started off as a little road side hamburger stand in California.  What is wrong with these companies expanding and making a profit?

The food served in franchise restaurants varies.  I have never liked McDonald's, but they are not the only game in town.  It's your responsibility as a consumer to make your own choices.  It's not the responsibility of the government to come in and save you from your own vices.

hizgeorgiapeach -> RE: South Los Angeles banning new fast food outlets (7/30/2008 8:31:09 PM)

~fr again~

Ah yes - complain about fast food - which if eatten in moderation and normal portion sizes (rather than the giant size portions that westerners tend to consider "normal") is no worse for you than a few beers - but stuff yourself on the liver of a bird who was pumped full of  steroids, kept locked in a cage to small for it, and force fed until it died from gross enlargement of the liver you're eatting.  Woooonderful.

kittinSol -> RE: South Los Angeles banning new fast food outlets (7/30/2008 8:34:48 PM)

Oh you're wrong about the steroids. If it's full of steroids, it wasn't produced properly.

Aynne -> RE: South Los Angeles banning new fast food outlets (7/30/2008 8:36:17 PM)

Do you think people that dine on fois gras actually stuff themselves with it?  Besides let's be reaslitic, that is not the issue here. However, if the practice of tube feeding ducks and geese to procure fois gras bothers you, have you ever visited a large farm? Giant factory farms where cattle are crammed in, diseased, covered in feces, and pumped with the same if not worse steriods you rant of? By the way, where I purchse the *tiny* bit of fois gras I use is 100% organic and steriod and hormone free. I can assure you that the meat in the supermarket can make no such claims. Let alone the abomination done to chickens in factory farming. Sickening.

Kittin, moderation is the key to almost any kind of consumption.  I don't care if people eat foie gras.  I've tried it, and it was okay.  I just didn't see what the attraction was, though.  As far as caviar, bleeech!   It tastes like fishy salt.  But I don't care what people eat.

It's perfectly acceptable to enjoy a greasy, double-bacon cheeseburger on occasion.  But if you eat them for lunch and dinner 5 days out of the week, prepare to become a disgusting, fat slug.  I think most people are aware of that.  But I am not going to walk up to a fat man and yank the burger from his hand.  I'm not going to yank the bottle out of a drunk's hand.  It's not my business or yours.

As far as the life expectancy comparisons, I couldn't tell you why.  I've read the same reports.  I've heard it's because of wine consumption, American's longer working hours, lifestyle differences, etc.  We don't live as long as the Japanese either, and there are numerous theories on to why that is.

Thank you very kindly, Kittin.  [:)]
