So who else is in their local Leather Community? And why dont WE have a section on the forums, can we put this to a vote? Who do I spank or get spanked by to get this done? [:D]

MasterFireMaam -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/3/2008 3:39:09 AM)

I am active...but I'm not sure who we ask about our own forum. I'm not sure there's enough of us that are active on the forums to warrant it.

I always kind of wondered if you were Leather [:D]

MasterFireMaam -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/3/2008 4:29:32 AM)

You should have just asked. :-) No use wondering about stuff.

Hrm, a forum specifically for the Leather community.  I would find this very interesting, as would many others I'm sure.  Even though some of us don't identify as Leather.  I don't know beans about it.  "Find your answers, share your experience" and all that goodness.

Sunnyfey -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/3/2008 10:32:51 PM)

Exactly!! Not alot of people know what Leather really is! Most just think its another BDSM subculture. And it is after a fashion. but theres so much MORE to Leather, personally I think alot of people could benefit from it. Infact I also think alot of people on here could identify with it and maybe want to be Leather too if they knew what it was.

katie978 -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/3/2008 10:39:34 PM)

So tell us about it, Fey!

Personally, I've never really realized that there was a different Leather bunch than just regular kinky people who like wearing leather... The only mentions I recall are the "twue dom" types who tell us how they were trained and involved in a Leather community or some such, and the rest of us are posers. If such illustrious personas as yourselves are involved, it can't merely be some made-up community to make some people feel more important.

So explain ^_^

HeavansKeeper -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/3/2008 10:42:53 PM)

What leathery things would you be talking about so often that don't fit in the existing forums? =\

I don't want to have to troll another forum to which I don't "belong".

Even those who are Leather! I'm not meaning this as a put down, I'm saying this in reference to trying to define what it is. Most of us say something similar to: I don't know what it is, but I know what I see it.

We could start the forum with the debate: Can Leather be defined or must it be experienced?

MasterFireMaam -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/3/2008 11:33:18 PM)

There's an implied code of conduct...an implied history...and implied tribe.Yet, I know people who I consider 'Leather' who don't even WEAR leather. They're Victorian. Go figure.

It's not just about a leather fetish, which is about the only point on which I think most will agree.

DreamyLadySnow -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/3/2008 11:53:20 PM)

I'm not sure we need a forum but if we had one I'd certainly be there with chaps on!
But then again I do get a lot out of the regular forums, and certainly appreciate what MasterFire says on various topics, as well as others.
As to who you'd have to spank? No clue, but I'm sure they'd enjoy it..heh heh.

Sunnyfey -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/4/2008 1:10:29 AM)

omg i have to type this all over again....stupid esc button.

Anyway, What Leather IS will always be a much debated topic even in the Leather Community. When it comes down to it, its Tradition, Family, Community, Love, and Respect. We squabble (like any family), We even get petty (OMG!! ZMOG!! His boots are so scuffed!!! How disrespectfull!!), We cant even get the hanky code down in every region! But at 3am on a saturday night when you get home from the bar pissed off cuz that w*ore scuffed your EARND boots and no one else knows why you are so upset ("omgs!they are just boots you freak!") and you call your Leather Sister? She'll be there in ten with boot polish. THATS Leather. Calling your mentor and Leather Sir when you had a fight with your new sub and just dont know how to fix it, and he comes over with a cigar and a beer to talk it out. THATS Leather. Spending hours shineing Sir's boots with only thought in your head being "He will look so good at the parade with these on! I'll be so proud of Him!" THATS Leather. Bursting into tears when your beautiful Leather Family, whos helped you in so many ways, the people who cried next to you through the tough times, the people you'd give your own life for in a heartbeat, the people who taught you so much, the people who cheered for you after those hardcore pain scenes, the people helped you become the person you've always wanted to be, the people who held your hand when you encountered and rose above your fears, presents you with your FIRST earned Leather....Thats Leather. Leather is life, Leather is Family. Leather is Me.

Wow sorry for the emotional thesis, but... thats how I see Leather. Dose it help explain anything?

Sunnyfey -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/4/2008 1:21:00 AM)

Besides the emotional stand point of it, Leather is a community based around Traditions generally held with in the Military and Biker communites. In the Military your pride in keeping your boots shined, your pride in your community, the dedication you have for protecting your community, the pride you take in yourself for overcomeing that which has held you back. and the Biker aspect of Earned Leather (and patches yay!!!) You earn the right to wear your familys colores, you earn the right to be part of your community, by helping your community, ive got your back, and youve got mine. These are the most (wdiely) accepted views on Leather (that I have seen as in all YMMV)

Leather is alot of things to alot of people, and thats what it is to me. Even to me Leather is always changeing, theres always something else to learn. Leather is Leather.

Sunnyfey -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/4/2008 4:46:04 AM)

Random crap I thought of! Maybe we should get something together with the current Intl Leather Title Holders and get a hanky code set down pat that we can ALL go by.....I see alot of typeing in my future....

leadership527 -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/4/2008 5:09:13 AM)

Well, I myself am not leather and likely won't ever be.  But heck, honestly.... discussion boards are cheap to create.  I'd say create it and if it get's enough posters to be worthwhile, then keep it.  If only 3 regulars post on it back and forth, then delete it again.  Seems to me like one of those "why not?" sort of thigns.  Even for those of us who are not leather, it'd be informative reading.  I like the gorean board for he same reason.

Archer -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/4/2008 5:27:36 AM)

Add Elegant and myself to the Leather contingent here. Not that we exclussively stay with only other Leather folks, but rather we feel an extra connection when we are amoung other Leathermen and Leatherwomen.

Sunnyfey -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/4/2008 5:31:02 AM)

I throughly understand Archer! Well met to You and Your Lady

RCdc -> RE: Leather Community on CM? (8/4/2008 5:37:04 AM)

I don't necessarily believe that seperating BDSM more into seperate sections helps people.  It is cool to have a discussion on the aspects of Leather traditions and communities and introducing your family, but if you start a seperate forum, people will hesitate to post on it unless they are leather.  It only works for Gor because many Goreans seperate themselves completely from BDSM.  I have always found Leather Families as open and as friendly as they come and I believe it would be a total loss to start a seperate forum, on here at least.

Good idea though there is a pre-existing hanky code which is quite in depth. One just needs to do a bit of online searching to find.

The really indepth ones vary from region to region, country to country. At this point, there's no way anyone can remember them all. I say go with the original, adding a few more that seem essential these days such as Daddy/boy (which can also mean Mommy/girl and any other 'parentel' type relationship), bootblack and blood play.

If I've got my sources right, this is the original hanky code:
Gray - bondage
Black - SM (heavy)
Red - Fisting
Yellow - Watersports
Dark Blue - Anal Sex (thought, often seen as sex now that the Hets, Lesbians and Bis are involved)

In the US, left is top, right is bottom...in Europe, it's the opposite. I think these should be added:
Daddy/boy - Forest/Hunter green
Lt blue - oral sex
Olive - military
One for blood play but red's already taken.
Leather - leather

That makes 10, which is about the limit of the human memory when it comes to learning a list of like items quickly.
