It absolutely sinks his chance at the VP, though he publicly stated he wouldn't take the job if offered, if memory serves. I think it also sinks his chance at AG, which was a much more realistic possibility.

I hate adultery. It makes me sick. And Elizabeth is a gem of a human being who definately doesn't deserve this.

This was known during the run up to the primaries and yet the only news we got about it was through the National Enquirer.

PMSNBC had a reporter on today saying that the reason they held back was the Edwards campaign had personally promised them that there was absolutely nothing to it, that it was just a rumor.

If it were simply an affair, that would probably kill off any political aspirations higher than just staying a Senator. His wife is a tremendously sympathetic figure.

But couple it with months of solid, consistent lying about it, and the guy's political poison now. And it sure doesn't help that Clinton's affair and lying preceded him.

I wonder what the pep talk is like right before they (pick your politician and whatever affair they just got popped being involved in) make a statement or do an interview.

             A politician lied, right up to the point where the cameras caught him getting off the elevator at 2:45 a.m. Nothing new there. Maybe if Larry Craig had been in the bathroom he hid in...

Elizabeth apparently has known about this for some time. She forgives him, and they have moved on... Considering my own open relationship with my spouse, I hardly think it's my place to stand in judgement of John Edwards... I wonder how many people on this site have been in threesomes, foursomes, and moresomes and are just aghast at this news?

Let's see... how does this stack up to some of the other scandals over the years?

Newt gets his dick blown by his mistress in the car, his kids less than fifteen feet away at a family reunion...

Newt gets his wife to sign away everything in the divorice, while she's still groggy from the anesthetic.

Senator Craig still denies he was seeking a gay blowjob in a public airport bathroom... (where was all the sympathy for his wife and kids from the republicans?)

Larry Flynt bags another republican, one that was up for being speaker of the house, for having multiple affairs. (This same congressman was aparently the head of the then growing "family values to stamp out porn" movement.

The guy who replaced him, also had multiple affairs...

Here's the hard statistic (and I'm sure I'm going to be called on this because some dickhead will find a site with contradictory figures... social science are a "soft" discipline, so kindly spare us all the "fact and figure bullshit for once) Marriages have at best a 50-50 chance... men have a 60% probability of having at least one affair by age 40.... Women are in the 40% range of doing the same. According to Kinsey, almost 30% of all couples manage to get through these sort of crises, and come out stronger on the other side...

From figures like this, (even if they are just in the ballpark) I would say that pure monogomy is something of a chimera... a myth. It seems a substaintial portion of humanity is non-monogamous, and is, in fact, living in a highly stressful, dishonest way in trying to even attempt it.

Sya what you like about Edwards... at least he admitted the truth, both tho his wife, and to the public, when push came to shove... but it seems plenty of others didn't.

Yup,without the media stick`n to the story,Edwards might have escaped scrutiny.They`re so unfair.

Apparently, this went down before deciding to run for prez.That`s some balls for ya.The wife knew and still backed him in running anyway.Then the cancer,..Jesus, that woman is one strong soul.

If you want to play with fire,there`s a good chance you`ll get burned.Some people can pull it off and keep it together,but very few.

I don`t like the lying.Private things are private,but if you cheat,there`s no way to live without lying, constantly.If you`re a public figure,you`re held to a double standard.You best keep your hands clean while serving.

As far as the political angle or supposed media bias....

I don`t recall Newty getting hammered till after the ex dropped a dime on his cheating loser hide.He was also having another affair, during the Clinton impeachment.Don`t recall much adu about that one either.

Rep Livingston`s love child didn`t become known,till after the hypocrite made an ass of himself.

Republican JC Watts` love child wasn`t gone after, either.

This media bias whine is just BS and doesn`t make since.If a network has a story that`ll make them money,nothing will stop them from running it.

It`s a guarantee that the righties will charge media bias.yawn.....
