ORIGINAL: ShreveportMaster FR, Jeff Gordon is a racist, so is Dale Jr. How do I know? Because they make their living racing! After all, if one makes their living in the arts, they are an artist, if in the sciences, they are a scientist...Hence all NASCAR drivers are racists. Ethnicity, Race, or whatever the hell else you want to call what color wrapper people come in is part of life, but it's carried to extremes on all sides by waaayyyyyyy too many pee-pul. An example, almost no one thinks it odd, or unusual that the NAACP or LULAC exists, or that there is a Black History month to honor the contributions of folks like George Washington Carver, or Fredrick Douglas, No one finds it unusual that there are scholarships set up that you must be of a certain ethnic background to qualify for. Almost no one considers those ideas "racist". BUT, if someone were to set up the National Association for the Advancement of White People, or the United Anglo College fund, or celebrate White History month That MUST be racist...... Perhaps you could contribute to your white history month notion by linking to some credible sources on all the generations of white Americans held in chattel slavery? Or denied the right to vote, etc? After all, you were assuming ceteris parabus, right? First, Black History month is not "everything that was wrong about slavery and the Jim Crow era month. " Most black folks I know (and having spent the last 4 years in Shreveport, I know a LOT) will be the first ones to point out the contributions of people like Carver (who happens to be one of My personal heroes) MLK, and other luminaries to America as a whole, not specifically in regards to their work just on behalf of other black people during the War. or establishing equal voting rights, etc. I have no more problem with this than I do with St. Paddy's day parades, or enjoying a Cinco de Mayo celebration. (which is a big deal in Texas) La Raza has scholarships that you must be of Mexican or Latin American descent to qualify for, yet I've never seen in the history books where generations of Mexicans were held in chattel slavery. But I don't see anyone loudly denouncing them, or the practice of gathering money, primarily from people of that ethnic background, to disburse to young people of the same ethnic background to obtain higher education. Last I checked, Equal Rights, meant exactly that, the same rights for EVERYBODY. Nobody is denying that slavery happened, or that it was wrong, or that the Jim Crow era occurred, and was equally wrong. No one that I am aware of is suggesting those things be forgotten. I can't speak for others, but I'm not suggesting that Black History month be done away with, BUT if you want to be perfectly fair and equal there should also be White History month, NAAWP, UACF, and the other things mentioned. If it's wrong for white people, it's wrong for blacks, asians, latino's etc. To say otherwise is to become a NASCAR driver [8D] I wish you well, Shreve Groups wanting anopportunity to recover from centuries of being placed at a disadvantage, are not the same as racist groups hiding behind claims of working for the 'advancement' of white people...such as say, David Dukes 'NOFEAR' group and their 'White history', 'White Pride', 'White Power' etc. Comparing that to the UNCF, or to a St. Patrick's Day parade is specious logic, because as I pointed out earlier, all things have never been equal. And no, 'Equal Rights' does not mean continuing to give the majority what they need to stay on top of those they have been oppressing.
