It truly doesn't (have anything to do with the person's education level). Although I happen to be the best speller I know and I have a Master's Degree, I know many with higher degrees than mine that can't spell for shit. Of course, it drives me bonkers, but that's my cross to bear. I don't know about other places in the US, but in Chicago, teachers hesitate to correct spelling. They are afraid it will interfere with the child's "creative flow" to see too many red marks on his or her paper. I completely disagree with that line of thinking, but again...my cross to bear or is it bare? And the US educational system has that whole "no child left behind" crapola, but don't even get me started on that!

These careless, thoughtless and downright disrespectful signals do however attract the possibility of wondrous punishment: how many lashes, licks per spelling error, what dire response to a wicked lack of grammatical rectitude? Mistress Rubyjoy imagines a number of hopeful harries rushing to concoct error-strewn applications as this is read...... ...dream on ......She can discern such fakery. A return to the old classroom favourites: standing in the corner, writing lines, and a spot of caring caning is advised...... on your knees.......of course........ and where is the apple?

Grammar and spelling use to mean a lot to me with regard to someone's profile and emails. I met someone awhile ago who had perfect grammar and a well-written profile. The 'meet' did not go well; he was absolutely nothing like what he wrote. In fact, by the time that I got home, he deleted his profile. (Maybe I scared him?) I learned not to be so judgmental and one can lose wonderful opportunities by dismissing someone.

My new rule in dealing with email from Doms: If you type like an illiterate, especially in your profile, no amount of claiming to be a 'college graduate' etc. will suffice. Either you just don't give a damn, wrote me while under the influence, or are truly illiterate. How often in your 'real life' have you forgotten your own fking name begins with a capital letter? Oh yeah, he also has huge hands, wears a 2X glove. Typing is a major pain because of that, he hits more than one key at a time and since he has better things to do than hold a pencil and hit the keys with the eraser - well that's another reason I serve as scribe, executive assistant, what have you.

I don't judge based solely on poor spelling or grammar. Some people are just bad typists, or didn't have the privilege of receiving a decent education, or maybe English is their second language for all I know. I try to look at the attitude and the person's action and go from there

I refuse to deal with anyone post puberty who insists on using 'cyber speak'. I just had to deal with a man in his 50's who sent one run-on sentence with such poor grammar and spelling mistakes it hurt my brain. Next one I will correct, grade and send it back. Now I need to get back to work (I work in a school, btw...)

I understand what you are saying lol but me being the typo queen I am , I dont think I can judge someone by that...but! if you are going to make a profile and are trying to make an impact maybe you should go back and check for errors :) ~ladyacquiesce~

I dont care if someone cannot spell or work out all the grammar points. Sometimes literate types contact me and they bore me tears with how in love they are with their own vocabulary. Yes, someone who writes well is hot but so can a man be who has spent almost no time with a pen or keyboard in his hand. I try and look around the corner to see who is there and if they can write, cool, if not but they are a cool person, I can deal with spelling mistakes and the like.

A few spelling mistakes or typos don't bother me, but unintelligible gibberish does. As another poster noted, this is an online dating/personals site and so really the only thing we have to go on is (maybe) a photo and whatever the person has written about him/herself. Since these are the sole grounds for first impressions, it's important to me that I doubly make the effort to be articulate and that my words are well-written. I looked for the same before I met Sir. I'll join the "I hate netspeak!!" crowd. Oddly enough my mother, the original Grammar Nazi from hell, has no issue with it and uses it herself. This drives me batty. Perhaps this is why she does it! [8D] small voice edited for subject/verb agreement....
