Thadius -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 8:37:28 PM)

I know what the next Hillary snippet for a commercial is going to be... and guess what it is going to be applied to.
quote:

If you hear the dogs, keep going.

If you see the torches in the woods, keep going.

If they're shouting after you, keep going.

Don't ever stop. Keep going.

If you want a taste of freedom, keep going.

And even in the darkest of moments, that is what Americans have done. We have found the faith to keep going.

I've seen it . I've seen it in our teachers and firefighters, nurses and police officers, small business owners and union workers, I've seen it in the men and women of our military. In America, you always keep going.

We are Americans. We're not big on quitting.

MzMia -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 8:38:36 PM)

I thought her speech was okay, BUT, very, very self serving!
I was waiting for Bill to run down and join her on the podium.

I saw NO love for Hillary, coming from Michelle Obama.

MamaDomme1 -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 8:39:29 PM)

I loved it.  But then, I am a Yellow-Dog Democrat.  And a Woman.  And unity in the party is what will win the election.

Her ability to be a poor loser never ceases to amaze me.
So this was what you took away from this speech...a sore loser?

Vendaval -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 8:43:18 PM)

That section of the speech is very vivid in it's imagery and idealism, therefore perfect for a sound bite or commercial.

Where do you think it will be applied to specifically, Thadius?

Hillary defied all the conspiracy theorists,and made a pointed and direct speech in support of Obama's run...

I loved Hillary's speech and love Hillary but I will vote for Obama (although I don't feel much of a connection to him despite the commonality of being [partially] black).

That was really obvious!

I'm sure she was livid with that speech.

Seriously... Why not say "Obama will make a great President"?

She clearly left that out and McCain has already pounced on it!

slvemike4u -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 8:47:00 PM)

Vendeval there are those who would ascribe all sorts of mischief and mayhem to all things Clinton,they saw tonight's speech (failing as it did to "steal"this years nomination)as her opening speech for 2012....

She was quoted earlier as saying:
"Eighteen million people voted for me," she said.  "18 million people give or take voted for Barack."

Where were the remarks about Obama being a good commander in chief?

I would suppose that they were included in the job description of  'Barack Obama is my candidate, and he must be the next President...'

Whether she means any of it is up for grabs, but she did say it, and her delivery was a lot less strident and shrill than when she was giving speeches on her own behalf... ( more Shirley Jones, and less Bride of Chucky) ....maybe they tranked her?

Thadius -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 8:53:33 PM)

Picture if you will...

Something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HogCxeJ-XHo
then showing the improvements, with that sound bite going over the top of it,
Then going to a shot of Obama talking about we need to get out now, I am sure there is better video than this in the hands of those that make the ads but just an example

I took the '4 more years of McCain' as an admission that no one in the Beltway expects a McCain presidency to be anything but filler to the next generation of Bushes running for inherited  office.

slvemike4u -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 8:56:35 PM)

Rove's permanent Republican Ruling class?

Vendaval -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 8:59:07 PM)

I have a better picture now.  Thank you.

Vendaval -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 9:00:51 PM)

Yes mike, some people will always be negative and inflamatory.

Simpleslave101 -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 9:06:10 PM)

If you lived in Arkansas, you would be very very tired of the Clintons. They just won't go away.

TheHeretic -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 9:18:08 PM)

        Not impressed (except by the Twin Cities joke - that was funny and well delivered).  She said what was expected of her, but didn't endorse him.  McCain is using her own words to attack Obama as unqualified right now, and she stood up there without recanting any of them.

cyberdude611 -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 9:24:03 PM)

She helped herself tremendously. She didnt help Obama much at all. She said exactly what she was told to say by party leaders....and nothing more.

MissSCD -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 9:39:20 PM)

Clinton pulled off a wonderful speach.  Despite her critics on this site and every where else, she did her job.   She united the party.
There are some that are wanting attention by refusing to switch, but we have two more days left.
I cannot see what Gore will do as the key note speaker for Obama.
Clinton can speak.  She sounded just like her husband, Bill in his day.
She is a champion.  She is true.  She serves her country against odds I would have quit a long time ago.

Regards, MissSCD

UR2Badored -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 9:40:33 PM)

Considering how humbling and humilliating it must have been for her to make, I considered Hillary's speech well done,  and it came across better than I'd imagined. (Granted--I did not imagine much)  The spin on it (including the "keep going" portion that Thadius mentioned) ought to get interesting in the days and weeks to follow. Again like others have said, her daughter introducing her was a nice touch.

To curvy below:  It had to sting a little--geez!

curvyslavegirl -> RE: Hillary's speech:opinion's (8/26/2008 9:43:05 PM)

humiliating?

It's politics, losing races is a BIG part of running for office.
Being gracious, knowing when to bow out, giving good concession speeches & supporting your cause even if your name isn't on the billboard is all part of being a civil servant.
