Didn't the OP say he was the former head of the DNC?  How is he a higher up?  Vs a free-lancing fool?

This is just as fallacious as the folks on the religious right who said Katrina was payback for [insert liberal sin here].

Since as a leviathon, what we do affects the globe,  some of us might take a less myopic view, and sit down and reason with them.

As you say, they can't vote, but I believe freedom of speech gets lip service in the constitution I fought for.........

What's stopping those who weren't born here from leaving this so-called sewage?  Delta is ready when you are, hon.

I called American politics sewage because right now, it is sewage: my citizenship is irrelevant. Not the country; not the people; not the culture. But its politics, yeah, right now, they stink.

If you don't like what I say, block me: it won't be any skin off my teeth :-) . Meanwhile, I will enjoy my rights, my American husband, and my American life and family. Now, run along: it's the last time I will justify myself to the intolerable xenophobes on this site.

Xenophobe?  Hardly.  You don't even know me and so have no right to make that call.  As for being intolerable, follow your own advice and block me too if you can't stand to read what I write.  I certainly won't be losing any sleep over it.  You obviously hold a great deal of contempt for American politics, so my opinion stands, just as yours does.  Please feel free to save your American husband and family from this so-called cesspool before it's too late. Go back to where you came from and show them how's it's "supposed" to be done.  [8|]

That is all.

I agree.

As much as I would love to grab her by the hair, slap her around a bit, bend her over and ...

I have never questioned her right to say what she is saying.  Just like I have stood up for a certain callypso player turned Prophet in my home town.

Why are the politics bad? Because 50% of the country refuses to drink the Obama kool-aid? How dare those Republicans question Obama!

I am happy to reason with one and all.  I will, however, challenge one and all who would criticize how America conducts her elections to first show commitment not just to the outcome but also the process and become first a citizen.

Citizenship gives criticism substance and meaning.  Without citizenship, criticism of our elections is just empty words, devoid of substance and devoid of meaning.

The first step towards making our system of government better is securing to oneself the right to fully participate in that system.  That right is the right of citizenship, the right to vote.

Any who will not take that first step surrenders credibility on this topic.

LOLOL,Thadius...agreed!!!! Great minds think alike regardless of politic.

Now, tell me friend; do you think that nature, or nurture?

I would nurture that nature.

Hopefully you will follow your own advice next time a Republican says something dumb.

...point out to me where i have ever branded all Republicans as dumb by generalising out from an individuals actions and i'll post a picture of me eating a hat.....will you also eat a hat if i can quote you generalising in the same way about Democrats?

Roselaure -> RE: Top Democrat caught on tape laughing about hurricane (8/31/2008 3:11:49 PM)

What a pair of idiots.  I don't think anyone, Rupublican or Democrat would ever make the case that the other side had the market cornered on stupidity.  Too much evidence to the contrary.

BitaTruble -> RE: Top Democrat caught on tape laughing about hurricane (8/31/2008 3:12:28 PM)

This was exactly the sort of thing I was speaking to Mike about on his thread. Cracking jokes and chuckling at stuff that makes others cringe. I guess it never dawns on some people what happens to our fellow man when any disaster strikes or has the potential to strike. The idea of a repeat of Katrina just .. ugh. I can't even talk about it.

I guess I have no sense of humor. I don't think jokes about disasters, bombing, rape, race, gender etc. are amusing.

Wrong CL her citizenship is irrelevant, and it is unseemly how often the young ladys status is brought up on these threads,Certainly I would think you could come up with a well thought out response that would rise above this nonsense. Are her opinions so scary so repugnant that they should not see light of day unless and untill she secure citizenship papers....how insecure have we become that an opinion leads us to ask what standing the person with the opinion has..

Especially when they resort to calling them names when someone says something they don't want to hear, right?  [8|]

kittinSol -> RE: Top Democrat caught on tape laughing about hurricane (8/31/2008 3:16:10 PM)

If you want to address the issue of immigration law and what you feel should be the special status of immigrants when it comes to freedom of thought, speech and expression, then feel free to open a new thread. Your girlfriend's hijack is over.

As for Thadius and Ron... thanks for defending what's right, it's much appreciated, since it needs to be done (unfortunately). I'll leave your other comments unadressed [&:] .

PS: and Mike, and philo.

Ok, since KS's citizenship seems to be an issue (for whatever reason... I agree..the Constitution I read in schooldid mention something about the right to free speech..and I don't recall it making any restictions based on nationality/citzenship status) let me just say the above quoted comment ROCKS!  And yes, I was born in Nebraska, to parents born in the US.. so yeah, by certain peoples criteria, I have every NATURAL BORN RIGHT to say the above quote.

This is not an "important issue"?

No, the fact that some wanker made crass and stupid comments about a disaster situation on a plane isn't important. Unless you're ready to publicise every single crappy lines politicians utter in private or semi-private circumstances, in which case... life will be even more like People magazine and the National Enquirer than it already is, busy as it will be with irrelevancies.

Obviously it is important to me kittinSol as I have family there who will be directly affected by Gustav as they were by Katrina. They are hard working Americans and Gustav will keep them away from their residences and out of work till they can return back to the Parishes they reside, then if there is clean up that is more time out of work.
