As for Thadius and Ron... thanks for defending what's right, it's much appreciated, since it needs to be done (unfortunately). I'll leave your other comments unadressed [&:] .

PS: and Mike, and philo.

See there you go again avoiding the important issues. [;)]

I am happy to reason with one and all.  I will, however, challenge one and all who would criticize how America conducts her elections to first show commitment not just to the outcome but also the process and become first a citizen.

Oh, that's probably not necessary. I think our system is flawed and we really need to get rid of the electoral college, but certainly if it can't stand up to outside scrutiny by the masses, then it's up to us, the citizens to repair it. We still very immature as a nation but, we'll get 'er done. We're tenacious that way.

Yanno, the guy that points out the leak in your roof isn't by default obligated to move into your house and repair it and he certainly didn't cause the leak. It's the message which matters, CL.. not the messenger .. (no offense to you Kitten!) American politics is sewage .. at times .. and certainly schoolyard antics are unproductive at best. At other times, you have John McCain (and many, many others in our history) who says.. Hey.. this shit is going on, so.. we've got a storm brewing .. lets set aside our differences, put off all but the most pressing of events for the convention and come together as Americans to see what we will have to do if and when Gustav hits.

So, we are fucked up in some ways .. but damn, yanno, I'm so damn proud of us, too, because when we get it right.. we get it really right.

Just wait until Sept and Oct get here... you ain't seen nothin yet.
I just registered with DailyKos. Gotta wait 24 hours, but I plan on posting that I want to see the Obama campaign focus on issues, and solutions; not get down in the mud with the repubs.

There's no doubt that our system is far from perfect.  One can articulate flaws and failings in every system in every nation.

That being said, what merit is there in discussing electoral flaws and failings if there is not within that a meaningful discussion of what to do differently--why harp on problems if there is no solution to be had?  True, anyone can posit problems and potential solutions, but who but citizens have a moral stake in the outcome?  Who but those possessed of the franchise are accountable for whether a solution succeeds or fails?

And thus I challenge: if you want to talk problems, be committed to finding solutions.  If you want to talk about how our elections are sewage, be committed to finding ways to clean them up.  Being committed to elections means becoming a citizen.

As of last year Gulfport, Ms wasn't even finished rebuilding and that was 2 yrs after. I was visting my cousins last August and saw some of the areas hard hit awaiting to be rebuilt. Mocking this is mocking the people who lived through Katrina.

Aynne88 -> RE: Top Democrat caught on tape laughing about hurricane (8/31/2008 4:08:09 PM)

What does that have to do with anything? I was certainly born here and kittin is right. It is a joke, and the "git er dun" proud to be ignorant anti-intellectual bible thumping neo-cons just continue to keep thinking in the box and electing idiots based on god, guns, and gays. No wonder america keeps falling behind in everything. Shameful.[8|]

What's stopping those who weren't born here from leaving this so-called sewage?  Delta is ready when you are, hon.

Obviously it is important to me kittinSol as I have family there who will be directly affected by Gustav as they were by Katrina. They are hard working Americans and Gustav will keep them away from their residences and out of work till they can return back to the Parishes they reside, then if there is clean up that is more time out of work.

I completely agree, it's necessary to be ready for natural disasters, and I hope your loved ones will be okay.

But I don't think a stupid comment like the one in the original post matters, as it wasn't even made in public, and especially not by anyone of any importance, by the sounds of things. Sorry if I came across as if I was saying being prepared for the disaster was unimportant.

And to Greedy... and Aynne... tacklesmooches [sm=hearts.gif]

There are a whole lot of non-citizens who have their lives at stake right now, over in Iraq.

servantheart -> RE: Top Democrat caught on tape laughing about hurricane (8/31/2008 4:26:22 PM)

I'll tell you what it has to do with:

It's one thing to see what is going on around oneself and be unhappy about it.  It's quite another to see it, complain incessantly about it, and choose to continue to be legally helpless to at least attempt to correct the situation.

I said absolutely nothing about whether certain opinions were "right" or "wrong" about the state of American politics.  I am no fan of the current system myself.  But at least I can do something about it.

Beautiful! See what I mean about thinking in the box? If it is not in their backyard, screw 'em. Great point Thorn.

Yep. And because of America they now have a right to vote. If it were up to Democrats they would still be under the thumb of a dictator.

NumberSix -> RE: Top Democrat caught on tape laughing about hurricane (8/31/2008 4:45:17 PM)

1.  It doesnt appear to be doing them much good, we still choose their government.

2.  And they have voted to kick us the fuck out.

3. And when we leave, they will go back to their brand of politics, not ours.

And I'll reiterate what I said in my last post:

I don't recall anywhere in the Constitution that says that you are only entitled to free speech if you are a U.S. citizen.

NOt to mention, KS is married to a US citizen, and I think it safe to say that her citizenship is in the forseeable future.

Archer -> RE: Top Democrat caught on tape laughing about hurricane (8/31/2008 6:14:07 PM)

#1 and this makes twice now KS (hands to the pearls and bless her heart) has every right to speak about politics in this country.
1st amendment rights have been settled in case law as being applicable to resident aliens and non citizens for many years.
I may disagree with much if not most of her beliefs, but I don't figure the world ends because we allow someone with opposing views to speak.

No on to why this incident means something.

Comparison:
John McCain and the republicans showed smarts and class when dealing with this impending disaster.
suspend rhetoric, "Take off the Republican hats and put on their American hats".....

To the recording of the former DNC chairman's lame crass joke. Not to mention the reported reason for starting the recording being sexist jokes being spoken as well.
From the party that is supposed to be concerned with women's rights more so than the Republicans.

It shows that this specific politician has 2 faces when it comes to both these issues.
It casts doubt on some of the rest of the party, just the way when a reppublican says something dumber than crap it casts doubt on them.

Irishknight -> RE: Top Democrat caught on tape laughing about hurricane (8/31/2008 6:29:23 PM)

Aynne, if we can't vote based on god's gay guns, what are we supposed to vote on?

GreedyTop -> RE: Top Democrat caught on tape laughing about hurricane (8/31/2008 6:30:46 PM)
