I always look past the label and ask the person what it means to them.  I use the analagy of beans or soup.  You can have two tins, both labelled soup.  Heinz and Campbells.  I like soup generally, but I cannot stand the tase of any campbells - I think it's the salt.  But I love Heinz.  But I do not restrict soup to simply being soup, I can pour it into a casserole to make the flavour and texture different.  I don't like to restrict myself to it simply being soup.

If you removed the labels and put the cans side by side you would have the joy of discovering the contents.

By labeling (and i am not talking soup here) one assumes they know what is inside....and that is an injustice to all involved.

I tend to do this also; mainly though because I DO have definite definitions in MY own mind about labels and I hate to put them on anyone...so yes, when a person labels themselves, I always ask for their own definition of what it means. It gives me a better idea of them and still leaves the possibilities wide open [:D]

Just because there is a label, doesn't mean it will be to your taste.  And you open the tin and it's soup.  Just because there are different types of soup, doesn't negate it's soupiness or that fact that you can use it in other things which makes the soup into something different, yet the same.

Two apples can sit side by side.  You don't have to take off any labels to know they are still apples.  Ones a Pink Lady, One is a Granny Smiths.  They are both completely different, but still apples.  Even apples of the same variety never taste the same.  Doesn't negate they are apples.

Fox is a slave in his profile because he is MY slave. Before he was collared, he was a submissive in his profile.

Icarys -> RE: Submissive and Slave. (9/3/2008 8:01:51 AM)

Actually the Op does this because he wants to or not at His/her discretion. But thanks for the offer.

Icarys -> RE: Submissive and Slave. (9/3/2008 8:04:52 AM)

Sure but if i were looking for soup in general i might start where? With the sign marked on the isle that say..Soup<---- this way. Not to say there isnt much more than one ingredient in the can but if gives me the place to start. Labels are good in my opinion.

you were made no offers by me, hon.

Icarys -> RE: Submissive and Slave. (9/3/2008 8:09:44 AM)

Yes all true. I tend to search slaves in my area when i'm looking for a relationship based on what my beliefs are as to what a slave is anyway.. Actually i even narrow it down more and look in the profiles for one's that are Gorean and follow those philo's.(Just for the sake of debate). Taking out the people are people because i think that's just common sense, might anyone else do that or do you have the search wide open?

you are making my point. Labels are offputting to the reader (or consumer if you are still talking soup and produce).  A label in no way defines the quality of the contents.

Take you soup example. If the very first can of soup was the salty one...the one you did not like...would you have thus stated "I dislike canned soup...it is too salty.". Hopefully not. Yet the labeling in and of itself would perhaps leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

Icarys -> RE: Submissive and Slave. (9/3/2008 8:18:25 AM)

Yes but it's still soup and you used the label as the starting point. May not like that brand but you were after soup and it was labeled correctly no matter if you didn't like what was inside or not.

Im not at all.  Soup is soup.  You get packets.  You get tins.  But you know it's soup.  It's a starting point.  If you are closed minded, sure you then say 'I dislike all soup'.  Losts of people do that, even with apples.  But anyone with half a brain will be happy to explore beyond the identity to the what makes it so.  So you try different types and then you might go through three or so kinds and decide it's not for you.  Doesn't negate what it is.  Still makes it soup, whether you like it or not.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Submissive and Slave. (9/3/2008 8:20:17 AM)

quote:

Tell me why you identify as sub or slave.

this slave identifies as submissive for three reasons:

#1.  this slave has a submissive personality, or nature, if you will.  it is how she reacts to the world around her, and those in it.  she was trained, as a wee one, to obey without thinking of self as well as not to expect or desire control of anything, and she took to the training very well.  before becoming Master's slave, beggers were never turned away, she'd have sex on the first date if that is what they wanted, if brother didn't take this slave's hand and lead her out of the subway, she would still be in it, letting others go first, etc.

#2.  this slave did not want another relationship if it meant we were going to be "equals", or vanilla-based with a little kink thrown in.  this slave sought out a relationship with another in which they are in complete control and this slave submits to their authority, completely.  it doesn't really matter to her what is on the bottom of His shoe, or His cock, if He desires it be licked off, then it will.  this slave has learned about/participates in many things that she had no interest or desire in learning about/participating in before, simply because they are important to HIM.  doing another's bidding makes this slave all warm and fuzzy inside---as long as she isn't going to jail or dying because of it.

#3.  this slave is aroused, fulfilled and satisfied sexually by submitting to another for their use/observation.  being objectified is HOT.  she is also a masochist, and enjoys very much the pleasure/pain that is inflicted upon her by the sadist she is in a relationship with.  the actual activities themselves are irrelevant---what is most important and THE turn-on is their desires and whatever this slave can do to fulfill them.

quote:

What made you pick either or in the profile?

Master set up our profile and picked Master/slave because it is an accurate representation of the relationship we have with respect to each other.
this slave did not identify as "slave" until becoming Master's.

sirsholly -> RE: Submissive and Slave. (9/3/2008 8:25:52 AM)

it is a starting point but some allow things to end with the reading of the label which is why i do not, now or ever, label myself. Besides..i am not a can of soup nor a piece of produce!!![8|]  I change on a daily ..perhaps an hourly..basis. Labeling myself would be so very limiting to who and what i am...and i am so much more than any label could ever define.

Exactly, it is a starting point.  You have 'female submissive' on your profile.  It's a beginning.
