However, somebody who has more houses than they can count, somebody whose wife wears a 3-bedroom house worth of jewelry... do you really think he's going to give a watery shit about the issues effecting the life of the average schmuck busting his ass for forty grand a year? That kind of conspicuous consumption says something about a person- that they are so divorced from actual labor that they can't actually comprehend what it means. That kind of person belongs on a golf course, not at the head of a nation.

Status: offline 		this is  a bit far from  the dress, but yeh - i think that John McCain lived a regular joes life in the military, and they aren't the most overpaid bunch on the planet. I think that distinction goes to lawyers (snigger).  And he has as his running mate a woman who does her own grocery shopping (or did), and has a hands on approach to child raising, who from all reports doesn't have  a problem telling how the cow ate the cabbage. In other words, he has a built-in reality check.

and if you want to go in that direction, exactly how much do you think the opposition knows about the price of milk? One had an ivy league education, the other has been in Washington for most of his working life. I'm not sure that any politician knows price of milk, and probably doesn't care. Most politicians strive to say as little as possible  with as many words as possible, and get re-elected.

That dress was a crime. The only reason it cost so much was someone had to get into a time machine and steal it from someone living in the 80's.

Considering that Obama is the real elitists,this story is a bit misdirected.

This crack political reporter sets it straight and interviews an author who offers a very novel idea.

That Mr Obama being seen as snobby,upscale and elitist is a true breakthrough for the black community.

I don't really care.  If I had over $300K to blow, I'd probably be in the hospital.  I'd have blown it on a month long spree of drunken, whoring debauchery that would have made Caligula blush.  So kudos to her for her self-contol with all that wealth.

To the people in D.C., Manhattan and Beverly Hills it must seem as if the gorilla's are trying to take over the planet.  :)  Too funny!

Status: offline 		Actually the majority of clothing and jewelry worn by the Hollywood debs is LOANED by the designers so that it is seen and the wealthy buy them. Those that actually purchase the clothing tend to donate them to charity afterwards for the tax write offs. here are several shops in Hollywood where you can buy the clothing seen worn by stars in Movies and at the awards.

I guess you misunderstood my point.  The Soros example was meant to point out that there are as many wealthy Democrats as Republicans and that it has to do with unnecessary extravagance regardless of party affiliation.

I don't. I think it's disgusting. The way society reveres actors/celebrities is repulsive. In terms of what they do for a living, it has no real merit in this world. Those who actually contribute to society in their particular fields of work are the ones who should be held in high esteem by society - not an actor or a musician or a sports figure.

As for the generalizations about women and shopping...well they are just that. Not all women go overboard spending while shopping and not all women are into jewelry. I like looking at sparklies, but I just don't want to own any when I know I'm not going to wear it. The only store I tend to go nuts in is the book store. Clothes shopping is a chore.

Sorry to go off on a tangent. I seem to be doing that a lot lately.

I'm not quite sure what Palin or the "liberal press" have to do with the subject here, but I'm pretty sure her public record can be attacked quite successfully. 

This "executive management" I keep hearing so much about largely consisted of being the mayor of Wasilla.  I live in a city with 3 times the population and we don't even have a full-time mayor.  Believe it or not, he accomplishes all the high-level executive decisions of his lofty post in his spare time.

I do have to give her credit for winning the Governor's office, but being the subject of an ethics investigation after less than two years doesn't leave me with warm, fuzzy feelings about her "public record".

in supermarkets.  They often develop very interesting stories and scoops. And while I disagree greatly with many things said by Christopher Hitchins, he is very interesting
to read.  His essay a year or so ago on "Why woman aren't funny"..is hysterical

Funny, no one made fun of the "boys" in their $2,000 suits, although they did give
Edwards a tough time on his $500 haircut.

Frankly, I thought Cindy looked pretty hot for a woman her age.  But that's not the
issue.  The issue is...do we measure people on whether they are a  size 2,
"pretty little things" or what is in their hearts?  The woman has been helping people in third world  countries for years and didn't do it for "photo ops"...adopted an orphan baby from Bangladesh and gave her a life and family.  That one act alone makes her as beautiful a person as anyone on earth, in my opinion.
