all this just supports my decision to vote based on the candidates record and not all this other rhetoric!  i hope more & more people come to the same realization.

so u agree that the organization that believed "Goddamn America" was a valid concern for the Reps to have?

Was that the church's official position? No. This is this church's official position. That's a very big difference.

that was the pastor's official position.  i sat in a church pew as far back as i can remember up which equals about 36 years of being a church goer.  now i am not at present a church goer nor a member of a church and that is mostly because of pastor's' like Rev.Wright.  that was not the only thing he shouted from the pulpit that concerns many.  this country/world is full of Rev. Wrights.  some are far left & some are far right. one thing they all have in common is their ability to sway and influence their flock.  look at Jim Jones.

When I look at Obama, I see a guy that even after almost two years on the scene, I know little about.

You have no one to blame but yourself.
quote:

Other than his own personal success in his career, the man has done nothing signficant, managed anything significant, actually wrote and got legislation passed that was supportive of the American way of life.

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation. [http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080904/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_fact_check]

corysub was just giving his opinion and take on Obama's political record.  his record on the national level does worry me.  voting present 130 times worries me.  i wish he would have given me more reason to put my confidence in him.
his record is weak & short.  he must have known that serious educated voters would look at his record.  the only committee he headed never met and got 0 done.  that worries me as well.

I wonder why nobody has bothered reporting that she is not a member of the AOG church, and hasn't been for years.  She actually attends a non denominational bible study church.  The Wasilla Bible Church, to be exact.

Sorry for interjecting some facts into the topic... please carry on.

Actually, so far, the Obama Campaign hasn't really commented on any of this. (They are disadvantaged in this election by being hampered by a candidate who likes to take the high road, as opposed to McCain, which is devoted to the Rove playbook.) All of this critisisim is coming from people reacting to the media disclosures. Of course, Palin COULD put a stop to this by doing a few interview shows, and put people's minds to rest... but the McCain campaign is taking a page from Cheany, and keeping her at an "undisclosed location" media-wise. I guess they are worried that she'll go "nutcase christian" in front of the cameras... So, for the next week or so, they need to indoctinate her with the McCain message, and make sure she doesn't get near any journalists.

again, being reactive to rumors is not a winning political tactic.  just as Celticlord or Thadius mentioned in another thread.

Thank you for the link.  It's amazing to me how people are casting verbal stones at Sarah Palin for the church she worships in, a church that follows the teaching of Jesus as they interpret the Word.

The one thing about Christian fundementalists is that they don't give a shit what Jesus is purported to have said, they are more interested in what they wish he had said.

I don't believe in any god but I can understand the attraction of a man that promoted brotherhood (except gays), peace (except in Iraq), humility (except for oneself), to love one's enemy (except the Russians and Chinese) and that we know nothing (except if you're fundy).

I'm sorry but as a christian I think your first sentence about fundamentalists (I am a lazy Catholic myself) is so off target as to be out in space somewhere.  I have heard a lot of negative discussions about christian fundamentalists, some of them touching on truth, but I don't believe ANY fundamentalist ever expressed an interest in or wish that Jesus said something different than the Word in the New Testament.  Your words "The one thing about Christian fundementalists is that they don't give a shit what Jesus is purported to have said, they are more interested in what they wish he had said" bear no resemblence and display a total lack of understand of the driver of Fundamentalism, namely the WORD of Jesus. A visit or a couple of visits as an observer might be helpful.  If you are going to attack any group you should know what they believe in..couldn't hurt.  As a group, christians have been more brotherly towards neighbors, more charitable to the poor of this country and the world, than any other group outside of a government.  It is a testament to the founding fathers of the USA, a country founded by christians, has evolved to where it is today, with diverse  ethnic groups and religions and mixed together in a melting pot that produced Americans. There is nowhere else on earth where it is working so well..even with our disagreements.

Getting cell phone messages from god?

Possible evidence that cell phones do cause brain damage?

i think the cell phone messages they were referring to was from the Holy Spirit.  From my knowledge of pentecostal, they get filled with the Holy Spirit and it spreads to others when they speak of it or show it physically.

I read it.  I also like the way folks are running off with their fingers about the beliefs of the AOG, if one is suggesting that her current church partakes in those same practices  I would love to see evidence.  As if this is fair game, then I suppose we should start talking about some of the speakers that have been honored at Trinity, which I am afraid are much more extreme than the couple of examples given.

After reading much of this thread, it is quite clear that part of the information was not ALREADY EVIDENT to some folks.

But these religious issues ARE relevant to the election. Palin's extremist views impact her input on her potential leadership of the rest of us. She's a creationist, a radical anti-abortionist, and she has attempted to ban books from her public library. All of which stems from her being a fundamentalist, christian nutcase. McCain is not much better. He was cozying up to assholes like Falwell, before that hate filled sack of shit died. Then there's the whole can of worms that came up about HIS pastor, who has been, in the past, quoted as being an anti-semite, and verbal gay-basher, Worse still, while the media was roasting Obama's pastor for ONE quote out of his 25 years behind the pulpit, McCain's asshole has been spewing his bile for pretty much his entire reign. As far as I can remember, McCain never did renounce the the little pus bag publicly.

So, we have a pretty big difference (finally) between the two candidates:

We have Obama, who attened a church along with his family that, out of a sense of social justice, railed against the policies of the government which contibuted to 9/11.

Then we have Palin and McCain, who attend churches that preach hate, talk in tounges, prepare for the rapture, torture people mentally and physically to turn them straight, and are anti semetic.

Hummm.... how to choose? How to choose?

Some Palin nuggets:

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving do to what is right. Also for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for -- that there is a plan, and that plan is God's plan."

"I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas pipeline built. So pray for that ... I can do my job there in developing my natural resources. But all of that doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's heart is not good with God."

BUT here are some good news at least!

"Palin has done little while in office to advance a social conservative agenda. She told The Associated Press in an interview in 2006 that she would not allow her personal beliefs to dictate public policy.
"I've honestly answered the questions on what my personal views are on things like abortion and a lot of controversial issues," Palin told AP. "I won't hesitate to answer those questions about what my personal views are, but I am not one to be out there preaching and forcing my views on anyone else."

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/08/palin.pastor/index.html

Did hardcore conservatives just get screwed  ?

u missed what i was saying.  the cell phone thing was not messages from God.  they believed that the Holy Spirit was reaching through the cell phone calls.  have you not heard of the Holy Trinity?  The Father (God), The Son (Jesus) and The Holy Spirit.

I am going to leave the rest of your rant alone, as it deserves no reply.  I love how she attempted to ban the Harry Potter series 2 years before it was even published.  She must be psychic too.

See where the credibility falls apart here?  Prolly not.

i am not quite sure how refusing medical treatment to gasping infants outside their mother is constitutional or not forcing ones views on others
