ORIGINAL: Untouched1282 I'm mostly curious to find out why the strap-on is linked to the D/s lifestyle. For the same reason that many other items are linked to the D/S lifestyle; cultural history. Penetration has been considered a "dominant", "powerful" act in the Western world for many centuries. The belief that "pitching" is dominant and "catching" is submissive dates back to ancient Greece and Rome. Please note, however, that it is not a universally human belief that receiving penetration is submissive; many cultures see the basic Tab A, Slot B arrangement as being Tab subservient. The Slot is the engulfing or devouring agency that the Tab exists to serve, to fill, to please, and ultimately to be "destroyed" by. There is also the fact that anal penetration has a mingled pain/pleasure aspect which suits it naturally to BDSM, as well as a taboo aspect (things are generally supposed to come OUT of that place rather than go in), etc.. But overall, I think a lot of BDSM activities are BDSM activities because BDSM is a bit of a catch-all for sexual fantasies, roles, role reversals and activities which are taboo or frowned upon by mainstream society. This is why not every person can ever be "into" every BDSM practice--the whole point is that BDSM is a kitchen sink, where a community says "yes" collectively to the things that society negates collectively.
