auroraborealis -> Baby Names! (9/14/2008 1:30:12 PM)

Ok I have been thinking.. and I need some advice on baby names!

I have a couple I like already.. but how about you guys help me out with a boy name, and a girl name?

My other um didnt have a name for 3 days last time.. because I only picked one. Not doing that again.

So what names do you like.. nothing simple like Bob or Sally.. any one who even mentions Britney will get punted. LOL

Make it interesting.. and also give me the meaning of the name.. Pleeeeease!

Thanks guys!

Gwyn

I'd go with something that makes the kid hate me because all kids should hate their parents and the comedy value of him having important documents voided by people who think he is taking the piss would be priceless.[:D]

I realy like Rhiannon.. I have tossed that around a bit myself.

The boy's name I love the most out of the ones I have looked up is Gabriel. ( as in the arch angel) He is my all time fave.. and I just love the sound of the name. Plus Gabe is a cool shortened form of it.

As for girls names.. I have always been in love with the name Josephine. I studied Napolanic France extensively.. and I really love that name.

I found another name today from a movie called "Namesake" of all things. LOL
it is Ashima ( Asheema) It means boundless, free, no boundries.

It is also the name of a Goddess of Fate from Samaria. She represented the Dawn.. and her symbol is the 8 pointed star.

It is a name used in India.. and I am Hindu.. so I realy realy like that one. If I had to pick right now.. that would be it. I love the meaning behind it.

What do ya'll think?

IamElise -> RE: Baby Names! (9/14/2008 2:15:38 PM)

For a few years now, I've been in love with the name "Orion" after "The Hunter" of greek mythology and of course the constellation named after.

For a boy or girl. I love the gentle flow sound of the name and it's universal meaning. A star child one with the universe.

Yeah, I'm originally from California. (smile) Many blessing upon you Aurora for a healthy, happy and peaceful birth.

*chuckles* I already checked a big fat no on the popular names.. I dont want them to call out the kids name.. and have 5 other people answer... LOL

Currently we have 2 Griffons at church, and it is damn hard to denote which one we mean with out sounding mean. The constant "But I want to be called *big* Giffon" gets heard all too often.

CalifChick -> RE: Baby Names! (9/14/2008 2:25:02 PM)

Well, my two cents before your thread gets yanked (due to the subject)... almost everyone I know that has a "unique" name or one that is spelled in a unique manner, hates it.  My own sister gave her kid a unique spelling due to pressure from her husband, and has regretted it ever since.  For example's sake, we'll say she wanted to name her kid "Jeremy", but her husband wanted "Geramy".  Everyone spells it wrong (well, they spell it "right" but it's "wrong" for him), teachers spell it wrong, friends, everyone.  And she could never buy him something "personal" off the rack at a store, because his spelling is unique.

And then for the people that see it in print first, they always pronounce it wrong.  The poor kid can't win.

yeah I dont think I could handle mis-spelling a name like that. poor kid prob gets called Germy.. Not a fun nick name to have!

My mum mis-spelled my middle name.. which is French.. and I have had hell with it.. folks act like at 33 I dint know how to spell my own damn name.

LOL

I wish I could change the subect title to just Pick a Name.. but dern it.. it doesnt give me that option.
