The meaning behind Ashima is lovely but it would be constantly mispronounced, and she'd be forever spelling it out when other people need to write it .

Josephine: also lovely, just realize that due to its length it will be shortened to Jo for a nickname. So if you're comfy with Jo, that's fine. Or you could use it for a middle name.

For a boy: Orion (the hunter) is lovely, and he'll have his own constallation that is one of the most prominant and easily recognizable ones in the night sky. I just hope most people would know its proper spelling and pronunciation.

If you like celestial themes, you could go with Celeste (French: "heavenly") for a girl, or Sky (Norse: "sky") for a boy.

Matthew...gift of God

christine1 -> RE: Baby Names! (9/14/2008 3:07:09 PM)

i was talking with red the luscious hunk of meat earlier, and i told her my fave siblings are named Adam and Emily.  those are my picks for now.  hugs cutie.

auroraborealis -> RE: Baby Names! (9/14/2008 3:11:19 PM)

yeah Ashima is a bit for some folks to wrap thier minds around.. just like my first ums name Sakima. When he was little they always looked at him funny when they would ask his name.. then look at me like he didnt know his own name. LOL

He usualy goes by Sam for the kids at school right now because they just cant get it. He does like his name.. and it means a lot to us.

I think calling out Ashima, Sakima.... just sounds right.. it has a good tone to it.. and both are meaningful.

As for Josephine.. it would be Josie for short. I love that as a shortend form of the name.

Matthew is a good name too. I have been combing the bible for name ideas.. Ashima is in there too.

dreamerdreaming -> RE: Baby Names! (9/14/2008 3:22:19 PM)

I forgot about Josie. Yeah I like that too. But then, I like Jo.

For a boy, Joseph is lovely too.

What does Sakima mean?

christine1 -> RE: Baby Names! (9/14/2008 3:23:09 PM)

gwyn sweety...i adore the hell out of you.  you are a gem in a world of rocks.  please take care of you and whatever you name the blessed baby, it's all good.  hugs and kisses to the wonderful one.

auroraborealis -> RE: Baby Names! (9/14/2008 3:27:10 PM)

I like the name Joseph too...  I had a mentor by that name.. so it would realy mean a lot.

Not so big on Jo when there is Josie. *smiles*

Sakima is Souix... it means Great Leader or Great Lord...

It is also the name for a high up Chief.. and also part of the name for God.

I promised my mother I would name at least my first born a good Indian name since the German Jerk she married ( ie. my dad) wouldnt let me have an Indian name.

So he got a really good name. took 3 days of solid research by 6 tribal leaders.. and 3 of my friends to come up with that name.

We thought and were told it was a girl.. *Surprise!* I didnt have a male back up name.

I am not a breeder, but I am a art doll collector.  All my girls have glam names that they would have to beat up folks over in school!  Or maybe they are just yuppies...

Ready?  Giulietta, Aurora, Simone, Loulou, Zoe, Larkin, Magda, Celeste, Vanessa, Leah, Hollis, Rowan, Rosalba, Nerissa, Ondine, Melusine (yes those two are mermaids), Roxanne, Aoife, Siobhan, Maeve, Norah, Miranda, Ellery, Alice.

lronitulstahp -> RE: Baby Names! (9/14/2008 4:39:41 PM)

Victor(pretty much the definition in the name)

Vivienne(lively full of life)

Caprice(i have a cousin with this name, it means whimsical, unusual...need i say more?)

Delphine,  i just liked the name, had to look up the meaning....( \d(e)-lphi-ne, del-phine\ is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "dolphin". French form of a name which refers to the Greek town of Delphi, home of a famous oracle. The Greeks believed that Delphi was the earth's womb; the dolphin's shapre resembles that of a pregnant woman. Also a flower name: the larkspur flower, whose center resembles a dolphin, is also known as delphinium. French actress Delphine Seyrig.)

Delphine has 8 variant forms: Delfa, Delfin, Delfine, Delfyne, Delpha, Delphina, Delphinea and Delphinia

Julian (Jove's child...Greek)

Elias (not sure of the meaning besodes bliblical)

LOL...  Christine, my saucy little cave wench!  Only you could refer to me as such and make me feel all swoony.  *giggles*  [:D]

Gwyn,
For a boy, I like:

Ian: God is gracious (Scottish)
Spencer: Steward (English)
If Thing 2 was a boy, the name was going to be Ian Spencer.  It just sounds nice and regal, and strong.

For a girl, I like:

Sophie: Wisdom (French)
Sadie: Princess (French)
Mallory: Ill-omened (French)  *I don't like the meaning, but the name is cool*
Jillian: Youthful (English)

GreedyTop -> RE: Baby Names! (9/14/2008 7:02:21 PM)

Ok, here's my .03

Andrea (for obvious reasons..LOL)  it means womanly.
Shoena (Norwegian - means beautiful)  That WAS going to be my middle name until my parents - thank the Gods - realized what my initials would have been (my last name starts with S)
Melissande (Mel-iss-sand) dunno where or what but I love the sound of it

Arthur (always been a fan of King Arthur)
Jacob
Andrew "The name Andrew is a baby boy name. The name Andrew comes from the Scottish origin. In Scottish the meaning of the name Andrew is:  From the Greek word andros, which means "strong, manly and courageous."  Andrew has long been a popular Scottish name, because St. Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland, after whom the town of St Andrews was named."  (not to mention the St Andrews Cross *grin*)

Boy you guys hit it outta the park...

Tulips choices are too close to an ex of mine.. Daphne... and then we have Ian.. ( oh hell no.. that was the JAMF roomie I just got away with.. and I um.. just no.. ) and then Sophie is the ex- girls name.. *twitches*

However Spencer and Sadie are cool. LOL

I *love* the name Melissande... however she was a traitorus cunt in my fave book series. ( Kushiel's Dart ect. ) So I wouldnt curse her with the name of even a literary traitor. Phedre another name from the book that I love.. is aun very unlucky name. *sighs*

and while I live in the south.. I cant name a child Revelee *smiles* my one um is already loud enough.

I wish Melissande wasnty such an aweful person in the books.

I do love that name.

Gwyn
