Aaah, public policy isn't always a pretty thing. Whoever finds these gems: thank you.

"Despite denials by the Palin campaign, new evidence proves that as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, Sarah Palin had a direct hand in imposing fees to pay for post-sexual assault medical exams conducted by the city to gather evidence.

Palin's role is now confirmed by Wasilla budget documents available online.

Under Sarah Palin's administration, Wasilla cut funds that had previously paid for the medical exams and began charging victims or their health insurers the $500 to $1200 fees."

The beauty of this: "The city budget documents demonstrate Palin read and signed off on the new budget. A year later, alarmed Alaska lawmakers passed legislation outlawing the practice."

Will Palin try to spin this one, and claim the restablishment of the old non-fee system as her own? Watch this space.

PS: another thing: what would happen if victims had no health insurance?

"Well, Honey, you got victimized once, and now we're going to do it to you again."

The thing that really makes me shake my head at this: Wassila is a population of 9000... and they have to cut the costs on the vast number of rape evidence kits they go through?

Wassila, AK: where we have so many rapes going on, we can't keep up with the costs of collecting the evidence. (So much for that "Mayberry RFD" crapola about "small town values.")

Thanks for sharing, kittin.
Getting this information out, is a form of public service.
[:D]

First, McCain ==== Bush which most of us realize.
What a winner Sarah Palin seems to be.
I guess those voting for McCain/Palin will have the warm confident fuzzies
in 7 weeks.[8|]

I am sorry... Sarah Palin is, without doubt, the worst thing that can happen to America.

She has little or no interest in economic matters, simply ignoring the huge American deficit.

Her personal agenda is a witch hunt on civil rights and freedom, with a heavy desire to pass laws which enforce her style of parenting. Which works great.

If McCain wins this election, I'm looking at Canadian real estate.

If McCain dies, and she becomes office, I'm moving.

Thank god for checks and balances.

*rant off* I feel better now. Whew.

Wonderful post HeavensKeeper!
You would think people have had enough of this current Administration,

instead of supporting more of the same!

Power to the People!

just so you know, it isn't easy to relocate to Canada or for Canadians to relocate to the US. The residency requirements are quite extensive.

Probably a referral to these folks...

http://www.state.ak.us/admin/vccb/

But with a rough average of two rapes per year in Wasilla (2000-2006 numbers), it may have never come up.

I refuse to live in a country that bans books and simply ignores that "pro-life" is riddled with HUGE problems that are well documented in very admirable research.

I know my words are brash, but it sickens me. It's 2008+. There is no place in this world for a nation to be so moral*, meanwhile so unethical.

*Moral here, meaning "It's right because it feels right." or "It's right because God said so." Both are not acceptable public policies. On a private level, so long as your (the general "you") doesn't interfere with my freedoms, fine. Opinions and preferences are not valid for law.

I have so much political opinion to spew, but no one to talk to =(. All you did was say "You know that's gonna be tough, right?" and I go off like that. What the hell is wrong with me >.<!

Not if you can hop the border and then go live in Faerys's closet.

Could you narrow down the pages we have to comb through when following your supporting link by a few thousand pages, by any chance?

Otherwise this just looks like just another in a long line of unsubstantiated slime attacks... curiously, coming after you were previously seen complaining in these very forums because you didn't think we were addressing "the real issues" or whatever you called them.

I guess that was before Palin though, eh?

Who bans books?
I agree with you on most of the other stuff.
"It's right because it feels right", that's one of the excuses they use to steal the Taxpayer's money and give it away in "foreign aid" programs.
That certainly isn't acceptable public policy when 99% of Americans are against it.

HeavansKeeper -> RE: Palin imposed fees on sexual assault victims. (9/14/2008 10:24:48 PM)

The book banning thing is a low blow:

Here's how I understand it.

When she was mayorizing Wasilla, she went to the public library and asked about how to ban books. The librarian, a Ms. Mary Ellen Baker, said "You cannot." (Or something to that effect.)

Mary Ellen Baker was fired for "not cooperating with the mayor."

Mary Ellen Baker gets reinstated as a librarian.

There were no specific books mentioned, and no books ended up banned.
CBS + Palin and Book Banning

It's not a deal breaker for the woman, true - but it is something to consider when looking at what she values about freedom.

Most of the people who mutter that bullshit never follow through.

Maybe they will give us a package deal.

Orrrrr, given the concepts of another ice age and all, maybe property in Mexico isn't such a bad investment.....

thishereboi -> RE: Palin imposed fees on sexual assault victims. (9/15/2008 4:36:59 AM)

Is there any truth to the links or is this just more of....

"I don't care if its factual or not, as long as it stops her"

I have to ask, because you have already admitted you don't care about spreading lies as long as the ends justifies the means....

Do you really mean that? I remember when Barbra was going to leave if Bush got elected....but she is still here.

LaTigresse -> RE: Palin imposed fees on sexual assault victims. (9/15/2008 4:40:17 AM)

I believe leaving is far more safe than, ohhhh sayyyyyyyyyyy, putting out a hit. Although the hit would be service to the country.
