Just heard on NPR this moring that the National Organization of Women is putting it's support behind the Obama Biden ticket. As their chairman stated, "we were waffling on who to endorse, until the Palin pick. Looking at her stance, and her record, we believe that she is an anethma to all of our ideals."

She also estimated that, along certain demographic lines, perhaps as much as 30% of women like Palin... but, she qualified, "the more those women learn about Palin's positions, the more they gravitate back to the democratic side."

The official announcement of the endorsement will follow later today.

A)  NPR is a Democratic ensemble.

and B)  It's too early to have made these comments.

I don't think they were denigrating her as a woman: I think they were denigrating her as a candidate, and possibly as a human being. And I think she's pretty awful, personally, so...

Wow, that's news alright.  Anyone want to bet me that the National Education Association  and the National Bar Association will endorse him too?  I'll also lay big money down that the NRA, the VFW, and the American Legion will back McCain.

Thadius -> RE: NOW endorses Obama Biden (9/16/2008 6:25:23 PM)

The NEA already has... [;)]  I figured NOW  already did as well.

When did we start caring about what Lobbyists thought?

servantforuse -> RE: NOW endorses Obama Biden (9/16/2008 6:51:43 PM)

When NOW defended Clinton when he was getting bj's in the oval office they became a joke. They are a non entity...

bestbabync -> RE: NOW endorses Obama Biden (9/16/2008 7:38:09 PM)

NOW does not represent this independent, gun carrying, god fearing, pro-life, working cheerleader/dancer mom.  NOW is a narrow-minded organization.
NOW's endorsement means absolutely nothing to most women in this country.

Very well said.

If they truly were the National Organization for Women, ideology wouldn't play a role in it at all.  They would be for advancing for all women, not just those that trumpeted their agenda.

bestbabync -> RE: NOW endorses Obama Biden (9/16/2008 8:29:50 PM)

hoodie,  thank you!

even Governor Palin commended Senator Hillary Clinton on her accomplishments as a primary candidate for president and her service as a US Senator.  Palin expressed how she respected and admired Hillary for her professional career even though they disagree politically.   Palin stated that she loves working with women, no matter republican or democrat, because women have a secret bond (how we women have to work twice as hard to gain the same success as men).

how can any woman deny the fact, that Governor Palin's being on the republican ticket is a big step forward for women of America.

edited to thank hoodie!

And I share her sentiment.  Hillary was all wrong, in my view, on the issues, but what she did in the Democratic primary made a huge impact for women in politics.
18 million voters thought so, too.

And that's the rub.  I can't understand why people cannot take partisanship out of the equation, and just look at the accomplishments.

Acknowledging Sarah Palin's accomplishments doesn't mean she has to be embraced, so I'm a little at a loss to understand how several posters on this thread have made that leap.  *shrugs* Perhaps I see it differently.  I'm an American first, a Republican second.

oh hoodie...we think so alike!

imagine how proud American women will be once Governor Palin is sworn in.  i can hardly wait to say it, Vice President Sarah Palin!

as i said, NOW does not speak for this American Woman!

Vendaval -> RE: NOW endorses Obama Biden (9/16/2008 9:00:41 PM)

So who or what does speak for you?

If she's sworn in, good on her.  However, I, as a Republican, am still having trouble forgetting that little piece of "comprehensive immigration reform" that McCain tried to put through.

I'm sitting on a fence.  I absolutely cannot vote for Obama, because some of his policies are eerily similar to what we're living through in Pennsylvania with Ed Rendell, and we're not doing so hot here.  However, I'm not gung ho on the Republican ticket, either.

I, am, however, flabbergasted that for a solid week AFTER Palin was announced as VP, there were insinuations about who the real mother of the baby is, talk of "can she be a mother and be VP" and NOW never said a word.  I would have thought women would have been insulted to have duty to family and duty to profession questioned..no matter the profession.

I'll rest easy when people start questioning Obama about whether he can be a father and President, but I don't see that happening.  and I digressed, my apologies.

It'll be interesting down the stretch, that's for sure.

bestbabync -> RE: NOW endorses Obama Biden (9/16/2008 9:04:20 PM)

of course, i speak for myself.
i believe in God
i am pro-life
i am a mother
i have a successful career
i believe in the constitution as it was written

So who or what does speak for you?

Easy.  I don't need a spokesman (or woman).  I am the only one who can speak for me.  And if I allow someone else to do it, I've given up my identity.

Vendaval -> RE: NOW endorses Obama Biden (9/16/2008 9:06:42 PM)

So equal pay and educational opportunities for women have no bearing on your life?

Vendaval -> RE: NOW endorses Obama Biden (9/16/2008 9:07:54 PM)

Are there no groups for conservative women that fit with your priorities?

Thadius -> RE: NOW endorses Obama Biden (9/16/2008 9:09:02 PM)

Ven,

Did you cross reference and read that so called "equal pay law"?  I meant to send you something the other day about that, when you were having the women's issues comparison discussion.
