And how long has this "low grade civil war" been going on...

meatcleaver -> RE: Pakistan border and US forces (9/23/2008 7:49:41 AM)

Off and on since the forming of Pakistan. Every time the government tries to control the tribal regions it flares up again which is why the government most of the time lets the tribal regions more or less rule themselves..

After having actually been there and experiencing the daily attacks by Pakistani militants (or more specifically, Foreign Fighters from Waziristan, Chechnya, Turkey, etc) who use the border region as a safe haven... knowing full well that we couldn't touch them if they weren't actively engaging Coalition Forces; I have to say that it's about time that we started engaging these militants who hide in their safe havens behind an international border.  I don't like Dub-yuh or his long line of failed policies... but I know that we can't allow these attackers to use the rules of engagement against us any longer.

Welcome back home Mr. Thorns.  Glad to have you posting here again and thank you for sharing your insider's perspective.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are discussing a joint border force to combat the militants in the tribal areas.  Do you think such action would improve the current situation?

When Europeans arrived in India, muslims were boss, when Britain planned to leave, the majority hindus would be boss. So when Britain withdrew, muslims wanted partition and a muslim country of their own and there was a big transfer in populations, meaning that many Pakistanis (and Indians) were basically foreigners in their own country. The incoming new muslims and the muslims already resident in the region that was Pakistan had different ideas of how they wanted to live. Still no agreement and they've been unable to stabilize the country which is why its had several military coups in its history. Of course, corruption by the political classes doesn't help the situation and I bet they are getting even fatter with the money the US is pumping into the country.

A solution could be to go back to your own country.[;)]
