Status: offline 		Unless Palin screws up SPECTACTULARLY, any debate between her and Biden is a no win for Biden due to the same dilemma that confronts any man fighting (literally or figuratively) a woman.

If he loses then he is a pathetic weakling because (in my best Chris from Family Guy voice), "he got beat up by a girrrrl."

If he wins then he is a low life cad for beating up a woman.

Status: offline 		I agree, and very much differ with the heavy handed attacks on her, as the first club out of the bag.
 
Our side lost an opportunity here. We were the party of change, that painted ourselves with a brush filled with the same 'ol thing.
 
Senator Joe probably could have wiped the table with her, but we threw that away with very poor strategy from very poor strategists, and people that put their mouth in motion, before they put their brain in gear.

I do not think that it is a loose-loose scenario for a man and a woman to debate.  Both sides can remain polite but firm and answer the questions.

Edited to add -  In other words, take the gender issue out of the debate and stick to the policies and subjects; play fair and no personal attacks.  Is that too much to ask?

Status: offline 		Come on folks....it's the VP debate....if it weren't Palin and it was Romney or anyone else no one would care.
Look at most of these statements....the bridge to no where for example...bridge wasn't built but Palin took the money....the Dems are blowing it?....watch the tracking numbers. I am not so sure in a debate setting either are not capable of making some spectacular gaffs....but, watch and see. Biden has made errors in speaking and we don't know about Palin because so far all she has said is repeating what she said at the convention. If it were to be scored as they do debates in an academic setting Palin would be in huge trouble but, it will be scored in the polls and by the analysts on TV....but, the real score will be with the people watching....and not us political junkies.
We all know who we will vote for (for the most part) it's the ones that don't post or have signs in their yards or bumperstickers...Those are the real judges...the ones who vote but, don't talk about it, debate it or argue. In this case we won't know because as it always is, the top of the ticket wins and the V.P. is along for the ride....except for Dickie Boy Chaney....HE was driving the damn car....roadkill everywhere....

Here's your big oops, they did *not* about saying "thanks but no thanks" about the debacle though now did they? pathological liar Palin has so many oopsies that the debate is going to be a cakewalk for Joe. That is if princess allows press, or doesn't totally get it dumbed down so the "Roseanne' and "Larry The cable Guy" crowd can follow along. Oops.

Her novelty is wearing off fast, and every time she opens her mouth, the ugly truth is revealed. She doesn't know a damned thing about running a government at the national level.

I don't think that is a thing one votes for... these sorts of special deals get hidden in massive legislation. That's a problem, a serious problem of how the government currently works that neither party honestly desires to stop and their own voters don't want it to stop either because it would slow down government funding back home.

Plus neither of them are claiming they were against the bridge to nowhere.. Palin is the one repeating the lie over and live, I guess they hope eventually it will magically become the truth?

That's right, every politician is against earmarks and pork in other jurisdictions, but they'll lobby long and hard to bring it back home. Newt Gingrich, in his heyday in Congress brought home more federal money to his district than nearly every other Congressman.

Yes, you have correctly identified "the bridge to nowhere" as a systemic problem.

One reason our military spending is so high is that the defense contractors ingeniously manufacture their products in all fifty (50) states. Hence local interests in jobs and pork dovetail with the national interest of defense. According to the latest 2007 US Budget pie chart, defense spending is now greater than the sum total of all US discretionary spending.

Palin has asserted she's against traditional Washington profligate culture, but there's really nothing to suggest she's about changing the system or has the intellectual capabilities to do so. As I see it, she's over her head in understanding the latest financial scandal, and she's about a total zero where foreign policy is concerned --- in terms of either experience, travel, or education.

On 60 Minutes, when McCain was asked if she's ready to be President right now, he said, "Absolutely." At the same time she's not ready for a real debate or open meetings with the national press. Facts are way stranger than fiction here.

It's also handy not to have your military manufacturing in one place, making is an easy target to hit... just sayin'... Besides, military contracting is such a huge expenditure in the federal budget, it would be unfair for them to ladle all that cash onto only a few states. That way, each of the states benefits from the programs.

But yeah, the whole "earmarks" debate is bogus. It's how we allocate money from the Feds to repair infrastructure, provide for the general welfare, common defense, etc., etc.. "Pork" is one of those issues, along with flag pins and flag burning, that the GOP brings up because it sounds good, but that they know will never, ever change it in their lifetime. It's a political strawman.

You'll also notice, that the agrument about "the big, bad illegal immigration problem" has pretty much vanished from the debate this election cycle. Yeah, it played well in the primaries, but once you start the national campaign, that BS gets put back into its box until next time.

Actually there was a direct vote on the "bridge to nowhere", an ammendment was offered to get rid of the funding and put it towards bridges that were in disrepair.  Biden and Obama both voted to fund the infamous bridge to nowhere.  TWICE.

Why must I do anything, when you are unwilling to do the same? 

I have made my thoughts on the bridge known.  I have even pointed out that these votes and the contracts signed for the projects (the road and the bridge) were signed PRIOR to Palin taking office.

It makes no sense to debate the same topic over and over.  Indeed the entire topic has become surreal as both sides spin the "he said, she said" rhetoric.

I can't wait until the transcript of Joe's speech today is available, there were some real fun things to discuss in it.  Did you know that Russia stopped it's aggression in Georgia because of Obama's plan?  Did you know the elections in Pakistan worked out the way they did because of Obama's suggestions?  Oh I also learned from Joe today, that the strengthening of Iran in Palestine is all McCain's fault.  They only started funding Hamas because of McCain's positions, and they will backdown when Obama takes office.  There are a bunch of more fun statements that I am sure many will be interested in.

Hopefully they will give her some easy GOP talking points to fire up the base, like "America, love it or leave it" and "The Bush Doctrine: make your own definition". Or how about "Evolution: I say hell no."

In context I don't believe it to be a lie.  When the topic was brought back up by Sen. Stevens and he tried to get the funding again, she was in office and said no.  That they were going to go with the more fiscally responsible route of ferries.  I am not suggesting that she was not for the bridge at any time, I am simply suggesting that after taking office and studying the issue that she and Alaskans came up with a different solution.  Remember, Alaska doesn't need the federal funds to build the bridge, as they have over an $8 Billion surplus.
