Hippiekinkster -> Biden/Palin "debate" to be a complete farce (9/20/2008 6:23:02 PM)

"At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between the Republican nominee for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, the advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.

McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive.
The wrangling was chiefly between the McCain-Palin camp and the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, which is sponsoring the forums."

WE Progressives knew Biden was going to have to handle Palin with kid gloves.

She wants to play with the big boys, she needs to put on her big girl panties and face him no holds barred.

The more they try to rig the game, the worse they'll look. If there's one thing the American voting public can spot, it's someone who is desperately "faking it."

(Today is the third week in a row that Palin has NOT shown up on any of the Sunday morning news chats. No Face the Nation, no Meet the Press, no This Week With George Stephanopolous. BUT... she did do an "infomercial" with Hanity this last week with FOX [go figure]... I loved the cross cut that the Daily Show did between her interview and some late night thing selling vitamin supplements, or some damned thing. Congratulations, Fox and Hanity! You've set a new low in journalisim!)

She's had a Political Career for SIXTEEN YEARS, and she's 'relatively inexperienced'? WTF? Either she's got the chops, or she doesn't.

Again, I ask the question: Which moron forgot to call Christine Todd-Whitman ???

She has a vagina.
She was a governor. ( And of a REAL STATE, Well.. New Jersey... )
She's got experience on the Cabinet.

I think who is right or wrong on this one will be better seen AFTER the debate and America has seen Joe and Sarah in their living rooms.  In the meantime, Joe better put on a "cup"...Sarah may just kick him in the family jewels...rehetorically of course...  :)

And after Barry ran like the wind from McC's offer of a Town Hall series over the summer, the Dems are only going to make themselves look bad whining about it.

Just putting her on the stage is going to give the Repubs an advantage, of course they are going to structure it to her strengths.

Spin away.  The winner of this match-up will be decided by the fickle middle.  I'm betting it will be fun to watch.

slvemike4u -> RE: Biden/Palin "debate" to be a complete farce (9/21/2008 8:44:47 AM)

Which pretty much says all that need be said on her fittness to assume the ofiice to which she(and John McSame)aspire to.

FirmhandKY -> RE: Biden/Palin "debate" to be a complete farce (9/21/2008 8:53:54 AM)

This looks suspiciously like an attempt to preempt the spin on the outcome of the debate.

I think I'll just wait and see how the debates go.

After all, if Biden is such a fantastic and stellar debater, then such a shortening of the questions should play to his favor, shouldn't it?

Firm

bipolarber -> RE: Biden/Palin "debate" to be a complete farce (9/21/2008 9:17:00 AM)

Firm, it could, yes.

But also, since the McCain campaign has a history of crying "sexisim" the moment anyone asks a tough question of Palin, Biden will be operating at a major disadvantage. If he "softballs" his remarks, he'll be accused of "patronizing" Palin because she's female. If he goes for the jugular, as he would with any male apponent, he'll be accused of "bullying" Palin. The same goes for the moderator... hell, the same goes for any press response! If we give her a bad review, it's "sexist" if we don't, then we're "letting her slide."

It's a no win situation, especially for the voting public.

What we need at this point, is not so much a debate, as a VP "quiz show"... Ask them both basic quations about the job, world affairs, domestic and economic history and policy... and see which one buzzes in with the correct answer....

Care to guess who'd win in THAT sceanrio?

DomKen -> RE: Biden/Palin "debate" to be a complete farce (9/21/2008 9:24:12 AM)

If Palin is ready to be President, as is required of any candidate for VPOTUS, shouldn't she be ready to debate her opponent by the same rules as the top of the ticket use?

TheHeretic -> RE: Biden/Palin "debate" to be a complete farce (9/21/2008 9:43:26 AM)

There is also a possibility that the Dems are the force behind this, trying to keep Biden from getting both feet in his mouth.

"At the insistence of the McCain campaign..." Yep, it's them evil Dems forcing the McSame camp to insist on dumbing it down...

Is it considered "sexism" or "patronizing" if Biden starts laughing so hard that he cannot talk.  Stewart showed four clips about the economy.  McCain was ok.  Obama was ok.  Biden was ok.  The audience broke out in raucous laughter at Palin whose remark went along these lines:  you all know that problem we have in that there Washington needs fixun , know what I mean. If she continues to show this gift for oration, I suspect Biden will not be able to speak. Besides Biden is in training with our governor Grannholm.  Since our governor is the second goofiest person on the planet, Biden should be partially prepared.  On the other hand Grannholm can speak the English language so as to string sentences together into paragraphs; sometimes she even has verbs in her sentences.

Well, more likely they dont want follow ups to the bridge to nowhere, or some insightful reporter asking something along the lines of, so the shithead you are running with after fucking around 25 years or so, has assisted in the largest financial meltdown to date, what do you think about that?  No, they are innundating her with bridge to nowhere one liners. She won't make it thru a soliloqy.

I believe ol' Brett Maverick hisself, is gonna have to answer that one.

Oh, I actually think they would love that question... as she looks over at Joe and points out he is running for his 7th term as a Senator... Yeah that is a full 36 years as a Senator, already under his belt.

NumberSix -> RE: Biden/Palin "debate" to be a complete farce (9/21/2008 11:58:58 AM)

Where Joe will look straight in the camera and say, that's right, we wrested nominal control in 2006 (although not filibuster or veto proof control) prior to that it was a Republican Control.  We tried to stop these fools, but you can plainly see the results.

C'mon Thad, ain't gonna happen neither.  That's why the rules.

Thadius -> RE: Biden/Palin "debate" to be a complete farce (9/21/2008 12:00:58 PM)

Which gets the quick rebuttal of... If you were so worried about this, and had such insight, why did you block the housing reform act of 2005?

Sounds like he's right behind Kennedy as a "career" senator.
Boy, Joe Biden, now there's some real "change" eh?
What was I doing in 1972?
Oh yeah, I was in the U.S. Navy.
I've always liked the idea of term limits.
Two terms for a senator, 3 for a congressman.
Look who the two longest serving senators are.

Oh, you mean the bill that is a legal re-wrangling of the 1992 reform act?  change and to semicolon here, secretary to director?

Yeah, well the Banking Committee which was republican controlled never let it see the light of day, so I was unaware of the bill, tabled by the republican chaired committe, so it never came to vote, but it is typical misrepresentation to say that democrats blocked it.  But, having recently read the substance of the bill,  it is a far stretch to say that this was prescient, and in fact is what the government did, grabbed the company, no golden parachutes and own it,  it was a tinkering with that which was already in place. It was a trivial little bill, I probably would have voted for it. Kind of a bridge to nowhere.

Maybe he would respond like that.

LOL, Thad......if I had anything better to do...
