cyberdude611 -> Palin draws crowd of 60,000+ at Florida rally (9/21/2008 6:03:07 PM)

Sarah Palin held a rally north of Orlando and drew a crowd of 60,000+ people according to the fire chief. The convention center held 25,000 people and it was filled to standing room only. Officials say there were at least twice that many people outside watching on the big screens.

I dont care what the polls say....Democrats have a big fight on their hands.

This election is going to destroy turnout records....

Let's see... if we apply the "republican math" that was used at an earlier McCain event, (where a crowd of appoximately 8,000 was somehow magically increased to 23,000) that means they've multiplied this by at least a factor of three... so that means the actual attendance was somewhere around... 18,000 to 20,000?

I've seen different polls, but for the most part it looks like they're neck and neck.  If it's really close on election night, bet on a pack of lawyers arguing over the results.

I bet she could see Cuba from there . . . .

Yes - she was at a major 55+ upscale complex called  " The Villages" , in Lady Lake Fl.   This environmental disaster of a development has grown so large and self contained  ( even it's own hospital ) , it now has it's own zip code !    Most of it's residents are folks here from other states  that tend to be quite well off , and choose to be insulated from much of the real world - or they wouldn't have picked this type of community to live in in the first place.   It is a known Republican stronghold , and was also visited by our dear President awhile back - knowing he'd be safely welcomed .

I just happened to be visiting with friends only a few miles away from where she  was actually speaking - and we all experienced a curious loss of appetite ...   [:'(]

sb4u,

You could be right about that! If it does come down to that, I think this time the dems will be ready to fight tooth and nail over the final. None of this "Let's conclude this quickly for the good of the country" crap! The stakes are too high! Think about it... if Gore had only fought for it, maybe the country would have been spared:

The war in Iraq.
There would have been a Katrina response.
We would have been 8 year ahead on alternative energy.
Perhaps the recent economic disaster would have been averted.
The US Constitution would still be upheld.
4,000+ US troops would still be alive.
As would be 250,000 innocent Iraqi civilians.
None of us would be having our phones tapped.
The federal government would STILL be in surplus.
The S-CHIP program would still be funded.
The US wouldn't be considered a "torture state" by most of the world.
Our National Debt wouldn't have been tripled.
Halliburton would have remained a regular corperation, instead of a symbol of corruption.
Enron would have never gotten a break like it did from Bush.

Maybe even 9-11 itself would have been averted. (Gore like reading... he would have read the daily intel estimate... steps might have been taken.)

Instead, because we thought the worst that could have happened was a "crush of the nation's morale" Gore and the dems gave up without fighting it to the bitter end. Instead, we got this... this... TEXAS PISSANT for a President, and a self apointed MONSTER of a VP rising from the dead, from the black pit of the Nixon years...

Well, if it gets close this time, you can damn well bet it aint gonna be pretty.

Would civil war be justified? I wonder...

The Cuban-Americans havnt voted Democrat since JFK. They are still angry over the Bay of Pigs and they dont agree with the Democratic party's ideas to lift sanctions on Cuba. Mel Martinez, one of Florida's senators, is Cuban-American and Republican in favor of McCain. Joe Lieberman has been down courting the Jewish vote for McCain. And the Republican governor Charlie Crist is a big McCain supporter and he has a 61% approval rating. So the Democrats are outgunned in that state. The only Democrats that have much political clout in Florida are the Clintons. But Hillary and Bill are wisely only putting forth a half-ass effort.

Florida is one of the odd animals that has actually become more strongly Republican under the Bush years even though Florida is one of the hardest hit states of the real estate bust. But Florida is a Republican state. The GOP has huge majorities in both houses of the state legislature and Jeb Bush was a very popular governor. 2000 was close against because of the Clinton influence. But 2004 wasnt close at all. And right now Obama is polling WORSE than Kerry was at this time in 2004.

Remember also that Florida is one of those states that Obama and the Democrats snubbed during the primaries. Notice the polls in the other state Obama snubbed show a dead-heat.(Michigan) as well. A poll out of Michigan today shows Obama with only a 1 point lead in that state. So it looks like these two states are going to come back and bite the Democrats in the ass in the general election.

I wonder which band held a free concert before Palin's speech.

Shudders,  imagine the horror!!!!

People working hard all their lives so the can retire in comfort in Florida!

I am guessing that complex brings zero jobs to The Sunshine State, nor disposable cash to the area huh?  And a Hospital too??? Hideous.

Obama bragged that he's been to 57 states...  58 now probably, since he vacationed in Hawaii.

Why do they feel the need to lie?

If McCain told me what time it was,I`d look at my watch.
