Guranteed to warm your cockles

what the hell is a cockle?

The Oxford American dictionary saith:

cock-le 1 |ˈkäkəl|
noun
1 an edible, burrowing bivalve mollusk with a strong ribbed shell. • Genus Cardium, family Cardiidae.
2 (also cock-le-shell) poetic/literary a small shallow boat.

PHRASES
warm the cockles of one's heart give one a comforting feeling of pleasure or contentment.

ORIGIN Middle English : from Old French coquille ‘shell,’ based on Greek konkhulion, from konkhē ‘conch.’

cock-le 2
verb [ intrans. ]
(of paper) bulge out in certain places so as to present a wrinkled or creased surface; pucker.

ORIGIN mid 16th cent.: from French coquiller ‘blister (bread in cooking),’ from coquille ‘shell’ (see cockle 1 ).

As long as we're discussing bulging out in some places...

Boston Style Bean

Cooking time: about 12 to 14 hours
Serves: 8-10

1 lb dried beans (peas ('cept for Tee cause peas are demon spew), navy or great northern)
6 cups water
1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon salt
1 large onion, diced
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 cup catsup
1/4 lb bacon or salt pork, diced

1. Soak pea or navy beans overnight -- great northern or quick-cooking variety do not need this soaking.
2. Pick over beans and drain, put in crock and add water.
3. Combine remaining ingredients and add to beans. Mix thoroughly.
4. Cover and cook 12-14 hours

Once again we agree;) No worries HK I can hold my beer quite nicely, and I hold my "liquor" even better.

Gotta be careful with some of those brews, Aynne. Pretty high alcohol. The Yeti Imperial Stout I had last night was 9.5%. But they are soooo delicious. Nothing at all like that beer-flavored water made from rice that the majors advertise the shit out of because nobody would drink it unless it was "cool" to do so.

I wanna party with Aynee!
