Reports continue to come in that Barack Obama’s Presidential Campaign is threatening legal action against his critics.

On Tuesday (September 23), CBS affiliate KMOV reported that Obama had enlisted a number of Missouri law enforcement officials, including local sheriffs and prosecutors, “to target anyone who lies or runs a misleading television ad [against Obama] during the presidential campaign." The CBS report is the latest of several incidents where the Obama campaign has threatened critics with civil or criminal prosecution. According to World Net Daily, his campaign “also sent ‘threatening’ letters to several news agencies in Pennsylvania and Ohio demanding they stop airing ads exposing Obama's gun stance. In addition, “Obama’s lawyers twice demanded the Department of Justice investigate and prosecute the American Issues Project, its officers, board of directors, and donors,” for running ads critical of Obama’s ties to “unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers.”

So what else is new?!  He and his political machine will do whatever is necessary to get elected.

And the Republicans won't? Get serious.

Actually, I'd like to see ALL campaigns do this. We expect truth in advertising elsewhere--why not here?

Yup, sorting all that out would be messy, but if it makes outlets think twice before running crap, I'm all for it.

Not to mention, the Republican political machine is far larger and suspicious than any Democratic one.

I second musicmystery's sentiment -- get serious.

That smells of communism. Obama does not like criticism. The scary thing is if he is elected expect a Hugo Chaves type socialist administration where the first Amendment is in jeopardy.

Find me evidence that the Republicans have...

Democrats are releasing an ad in VA that says McCain still has cancer. I dont see McCain suing anyone.

And yeah, like the Republicans welcome it.

Really, man. Have you been in a coma for eight years?

This is what Hugo Chavez does before his "elections" in Venezuela. Anyone that criticizes him goes to jail.

How about instead of making candidates say "I approve this message" we make them add a factcheck.org validation that all facts stated in the advertisement are true.  I am somewhat glad that some of the more outrageous ones have called out by the media, but there are a lot more out there.

It's interesting that the only way you can find to justify your actions is to claim the other side is doing it too. I thought Obama is supposed to represent "change." I thought he was the beacon of freedom and civil liberties. Seems he's interested right now in shutting up his critics who are trying to inform the public on the facts the mainstream media elites refuse to report on.

And what does Valarie Plame have to do with John McCain anyway?

Not the same as "criticism," is it.

His affiliation to William Ayers is not a lie.

Do some research of your own.....

Evidence?

You can't be serious.

The man's whole campaign has turned into a piss and moan fest about how the media is being mean to him and poor little Sarah.

Well, because Factcheck.org is a partisan group affiliated with the Annenberg Foundation, and we all know where our favorite community organizer got his start now, don't we?

Have we got this from some sources not devoted to solving the world's problems, one beer at a time?

If Barack Obama is making attempts to muzzle free political speech, even the sleazy kind we all know so well, by threatening media outlets; that's a very bad move.  The consequences for his campaign would be severe.  The whole press corps could turn on him (they're kinda fickle, you know).

I want more information about this.  It's hard to believe, but I'm having real trouble this cycle with estimating how stupid the Dems can be.

I've thought/worried all along that the Dems are quite capable of blowing what should be a cake walk to the White House.

But now I'm also baffled at incredibly silly decisions like choosing Palin over so many better choices or this silly "going back to Washington to solve the financial crisis" stunt.

Idiocy abounds, to be sure.

Tim
