Democrats wont be any different than Republicans of the past. Even in a time of economic crisis, the Democrats are still looking out to reward their special interests. Even Joe Biden has loaded up this bailout bill with millions of dollars of pork for Delaware including a multi-million dollar fitness center for a military base. And Democrats are refusing to remove part of the bill that would send money to ACORN, a left-wing community organizing group linked to all sorts of fraud. Let me see if I have this straight ,House Republicans are complaining that Democrats are trying to attach some provisions to the bill providing hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars to corporate welfare...got it.

Every election cycle the local talk radio station talks about G.R.I.P. = Get Rid of Incumbent Politicians. I think it's the only way to make any kind of change, even if some good politicians get voted out as well.

We need a strong 3rd party...even if they dont hold much power, they can call foul on the other two parties.

This a little too simple, though. Look at your local paper, celebrating the dollars your representative brought to your town to fund worthwhile projects. And if that representative didn't do that, you'd get someone who would. Those are earmarks, pork, whatever you want to call it. Now, I'm not taking a position here, but I do want to point out that eliminating earmarks/pork/whatever comes at the cost of eliminating funding for those local projects. Just saying.

Those local projects should be funded by local and state government. If they need to raise taxes to pay for a project, then propose it to the population and let the people vote on it.

McCain made a point of proposing a spending freeze - that's not such a bad idea, do you think? I understand there will be problems with this, but it's what an individual household has to do to get the family's finances under control. Imagine the problems if this all continues down the merry path ..... I really have to take some time to investigate the third parties. I'm getting tired of putting my trust in those who don't deserve it and have no accountability.

And what is "funding" (or pork) but our own tax dollars being returned to us, for use in our own home states and local communities? Still, this "bailout" needs to be clean... although I have the feeling that the reason the dems are loading this, the republican response to the Paulson 3 pager, is to make sure it gets killed, and gets killed good! Then, maybe, if we get past Monday without everything falling apart, we can get back to the basics, with the oversight, transparancy and return provisions again... like we almost had... Until "SuperMcCain" swooped in, and fucked it up.

For anyone too blind to see it, there was NO deal on a bailout when McCain came back to Washington. The Congressional Republicans were in NO WAY in agreement on this. McCain did what Obama should have done, which is to suspend the campaign, if for no other reason, than to focus the media on DC, and not split with DC and following two campaigns. As far as the loaded up bill...I hope it goes nowhere until they strip from it provisions for the corrupt ACORN group, and demands that union bosses sit on boards of companies that are involved, as well as any other Christmas ornament. This is too important to be anything other than a clean bill that the taxpayer can understand.

However, clearly Congress has received an earful from their districts, and a lot of these guys are running for re-election. They HAVE to reconsider---and at least this time, it's because we told them they must.

Greetings Tim, The local projects should be funded by local tax dollars. It does not limit eliminate them, it forces the responsibility of them on those that are benefiting from it. Hi Orion, I don't disagree in principle, but things aren't that easy. For example, if we want enhanced security at ports in NYC or LA or New Orleans, who pays for all that? And who benefits from the jobs? Many industries around the country--sometimes understandably, sometimes outrageous--receive subsidies because they are supposedly essential to national security. What happens then? What if an interstate needs to repair a bridge across the Mississippi. Do we demand the local residents pay for it? Or let them decide whether we can have highways that cross it? Do we let them create a toll bridge, charging whatever they wish? Certainly there's waste and fraud. But these things didn't spring up without reason. Live well, Tim
