ORIGINAL: Musicmystery This a little too simple, though. Look at your local paper, celebrating the dollars your representative brought to your town to fund worthwhile projects. And if that representative didn't do that, you'd get someone who would. Those are earmarks, pork, whatever you want to call it. Now, I'm not taking a position here, but I do want to point out that eliminating earmarks/pork/whatever comes at the cost of eliminating funding for those local projects. Just saying. It IS simple, and I understand the reasons why it is. BUT when tons of people are belt-tightening because the economy is rough right now, when food costs, gas, etc. ... hell, just the cost of getting through the month is higher - you'd think the idiots in the senate and house would find the brass ones to do the right thing. I am way too much of an idealist to hope this would ever happen. Even someone I admire, Lieberman, has pork in this bill. Bush called for no earmarks earlier this year according to the article, but they get around with a loophole. Go figure, huh? McCain made a point of proposing a spending freeze - that's not such a bad idea, do you think? I understand there will be problems with this, but it's what an individual household has to do to get the family's finances under control. Imagine the problems if this all continues down the merry path ..... I really have to take some time to investigate the third parties. I'm getting tired of putting my trust in those who don't deserve it and have no accountability.
