LadyLupineNYC -> RE: Very powerful video....a must see! (9/29/2008 6:55:59 PM)

Having dated/ and have a quite a few friends who returned or talked of returning, some of the reasons why they told me they were going: divorce, because they felt ‘alien’ back in the US, if they went someone else might not die, another one wanted to go back retained as a bomb tech after he was nearly killed in a bomb attack that killed several from his unit but they wouldn’t take him because he won the bronze star...like I said before, no two soldiers will have the same view and they most certainly don’t always give the ‘real’ reason why when people ask.  When my slave was told he might be slated for a third tour, he cried.  Having worked mortuary services as part of his larger duties, feeling like he finally got ‘his life back’, etc…it was just too much for him…this is a contentious issue for a reason.

i have a few friends, Marines, and Army....none of them share your friend's opinion.  It doesn't demean anyone's service at all, of course whether they agree with the administration or not, the sacrifice of service is invaluable.  Nobody's questioning his loss...it's the cause, motive and sentiment behind this video at question.  And using a public forum (Americanthinker or CM) to do so subjects him and you as the OP to comment.  Just because all comments aren't agreeable doesn't make them invaluable.  Try not to take it personally.

i do not think this vid was a product of the McCain campaign.

:o)
They are using it are they not.

i did not obtain this vid through the McCain campaign.  a close friend sent it to me in my work email.  please just let this thread die.  obviously the young man's opinion and real life experience is not popular.  at the end of the vid there is a photo of McCain, but the political endorsement is not there.  the vid appears to have been done by an amateur.

slvemike4u -> RE: Very powerful video....a must see! (9/29/2008 7:02:49 PM)

We owe all these young men our respect and gratitude,our belief that the war was foisted on us by a lying,manipulative administration does not in the least diminishes their sacrifice nor the enormity of our debt.Thank your young slave for me LadyLupine.

LadyLupineNYC -> RE: Very powerful video....a must see! (9/29/2008 7:09:30 PM)

slave mike, he says, 'you're welcome'...but he is one of those guys who also gets super shy about it; I am one of the few people he talks at length about it with (though he does ever now and then post about it, including on here).  To the OP- again, it is NOT the veteran the issue is with, its the idea that somehow one person's view is some how more valuable due to his personal loss.  At least that is a major issue for me.  For every person like him, there are equally vocal vets who feel differently.  Trying to censor your own attempts to post what you clearly felt was important does nothing or your position and your, frankly, nasty kick-back to the public eye rolling was the most disrespectful part of this whole post.

bestbabync -> RE: Very powerful video....a must see! (9/29/2008 7:18:10 PM)

unfortunately no matter what i post brings insults toward me from some, not the topic.

i do not regret posting the vid here.  i found it powerful.  i came from a long line of family/military.  my uncle & many friends served in Vietnam, a war i totally believe was wrong, but i give each & every soldier my utmost respect and love.

like i said, i posted this because of my dear friend that is going back to iraq this year.  i had him in my mind & heart.

Really? So why did you feel the need to bring in partisan politics to your opening post?

You are using this soldier's history for political reasons. It is your responsibility. Don't turn around and whine when you get called up on it - unless you enjoy this sort of attention, of course.

Marc2b -> RE: Very powerful video....a must see! (9/29/2008 7:32:09 PM)

Amazing how one man stating his opinion can cause such a ruckus.

Bestbabync: try not to take it so hard. It’s a case of stimulus response. Some people encounter the word McCain (or Obama for that matter), and they just can’t help themselves.

kittinSol -> RE: Very powerful video....a must see! (9/29/2008 7:33:56 PM)

You're obviously oblivious to the poster's posting history [:D] .

CarrieO -> RE: Very powerful video....a must see! (9/29/2008 7:34:17 PM)

Hello bestbaby...

I know that you posted this video because it had a strong effect on you. I appreciate that and how you'll miss you're friend when he leaves for another tour.  I have a friend and co-worker who will also be leaving soon for Iraq.  I understand.
No one questions the service these men and women are doing in the name of what they see as right (or what they have been told is right).

I took the time to watch the video you posted and if this is how this young man see things....then it's his opinion.  He's allowed that.  However....it has nothing to do with the McCain/Obama/I'm right/he's wrong chatter.

I would like to ask that you take the time to watch the video link I've posted.  It's long....38:35 min.... but remember, this war has been going on for a long time and can't really be discussed in a 3-4 min sound bite.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3Y-jZdeL70

Every soldier has his/her own story and they each have value.  I could post a dozen, if not more, video links that  have different views on the war.  Each would bring me to a loss of words.

I wish only the best for your friend who is leaving and I offer a heart-felt "thank-you" and healthy dose of respect to every veteran.
However.....let's try to understand just WHY these men and women are over there.

peace....
carrie

Not true at all Merc.what offended me was the heavy handed use of this young mans sacrifice for the political ambition of another.Hell McCain has his own sacrifice to exploit,no need to use this mans loss.

I take exception to that...I reacted primarily to the idea that this was a view that was somehow missed by non-vets and shared by all vets and her extremely vitriolic reactions to negative critique (regardless of the caliber).  In what may be seen as an ironic situation, veteran’s issues are actually not the primary concern for me, or even my boy; he actually generally feels that he is pandered to through that issue.

kittykat4play -> RE: Very powerful video....a must see! (9/29/2008 7:49:56 PM)

i am not responding to any one in particular.  Nor will i discuss the canidates.

i however enjoyed what the young man in the video had to say and agree with him.

God bless our soldiers and their families and what they give up for us and others not so furtunate as Americans.

LadyLupineNYC -> RE: Very powerful video....a must see! (9/29/2008 7:56:37 PM)

Again...an assumption...my slave is a staunch atheist.  While may found hope in god, there is a small and very ridiculed group of soldier who do not practice religion.  If he wasn’t so sick, I would have him post all about the saga of trying to get his dog tags printed with ‘Atheist’ (they kept saying they could ‘only’ print ‘no preference’.  They had the huge list of accepted religious but that was not one of them.  Freedom isn’t free, indeed….

bestbabync -> RE: Very powerful video....a must see! (9/29/2008 8:14:24 PM)

many many soldiers fought and died for Ehren Watada's right to have his opinion & speak it openly.  as i stated, i have my doubts about the iraq war.   but i would never ever speak sourily or negatively in response to any soldier that has unselfishly served his country.

that is jmho

edited for spelling

What's heavy handed about one man stating his opinion?  The video being "heavy handed" is your interpetation.  Created by your mental filter of the world.  I rest my case.
