if America offered to move those that wanted to leave here...i wonder just how many would take the offer. i'm not only talking those that moved here and didn't like it. i also mean those that were born here.

this spawned from a brief discussion in a chatroom and i thought i would tosse it out there.

keep in mind, this would enclude all travel expenses and some start-up funds.

America is my home. What else needs be said?

I chose; stay. Not because I think America is a great place, but that it has great potential; and my assesment of the world map implies it is where I belong.

Of course, that last part is pure speculation.

only if the rich fall from power...otherwise...we're screwed

Depends on how much I'd get [8D] .

They're everywhere, and I don't believe leaving will make things better.

I stopped trying to figure out whose to blame; I always ended up going in circles.

I think the question should be, "What are we going to do about it"?

If I could find the right place, and the right opportunities (like the chance to write fiction full-time, and to participate in my chosen lifestyles without moralistic laws forbidding it), I would consider moving -- but like everything else with me, it would depend on what would be best for our household, as well as what would be best for me. I made a commitment that I can't set down without breaking my promise, so if everyone else planted their heels in the ground and were unmoved by my rationale, I would abide by my bond first. If, on the other hand, they were all ready to high-tail it, I'd be right there with absolutely no compunctions at all.

well, if thay renamed America...the name Titanic comes to mind. i'm sure those people didn't question abandoning ship. of course...we could always have another civil war...why fight overseas when there's so many here at odds with each other?

I am rather hoping there is a better way.

Still working on that plan though.

Oh goody! New Zealand here I come! :D

I've lived in a Middle Eastern foreign country and have traveled extensively throughout the world.  I would never move from this country.  It is, by far, the best place to live (except for Tahiti  [:)]) even when it's at it's worst.

Ask me after November 4th Michael. [;)]

I can tell you better, after November 3.

I'll stay here IF they buy me a home in the San Francisco area. (Or if they make the rest of the US as sexually tolerant as SF.)

Second choice... I'm with aravain.. New Zeland!

Yeah I was starting to say no until I saw your post.  I've always said that if I win the lotto;  I'm going to buy a big yacht, learn how to sail, and you'd never hear from me again.  Sandy beaches, big breasted girl in bikinis, and margaritas here I come.  [8D]

pahunkboy -> RE: Just A Curious Question... (9/30/2008 1:08:02 PM)

America spans many miles. There is variations of places, so no I would not move.

I do think PA, like a dozen other states should evaluate the pluses and minuses for being a part of the USA.  Namely due to UN, NAFTA,GATT, CAFTA, WTO, the surrender of US soveirnty   to people who are not people I see in the grocery store.

Mike- this is a great question. You see- a big shopping center is opening up October 8th.  The cost of living near "shopping" has increased.   I constantly look around to see if I could better my life by moving from here.

I talked to the realtor per the Bloom property.  She said the trouble is one has no way to know the condition of the septic system....I was thinking, 45K, and I would not know if I had septic.   hmmm...why not go wild then and get a shack...since the 45k will be a shack.

As we speak- Im not at my family reunion is Florida.   Mom called and said it was BEAUTIFULLLLL there.  I asked, what kind of house can you get for 50k?   Her reply.  "it is beautiful down here".     But she is in a pricey area where my brother is renting a house only for the summer... the summer rate is $2400.00.     so- it should be beautiful for that.

I have concluded the eastern PA is too close to New Jersey.  That means it is either pricey, or urban problems.
So western PA might work. I seen house in eastern Ohio, that were cheap....  central PA has crept up in costs. It is like homes now cost 2x what they did 15 years ago.
Thats even with the mortgage mess.

Ild like to live where time has been turned back some.  That the costs are low- the folks are decent.

Ohio- seems to have cheaper housing... but I dont think I would want to lose PA residency.

I guess Oklahoma is cheap.  The summers sound to hot.

Pics of Montana and that region to be lovely.

If I thought that civil unrest was out of control in the US, then maybe I would leave tho.

Mike, there are planes and boats leaving every day for both destinations.  You don't need the government to relocate you.

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: Just A Curious Question... (9/30/2008 1:23:59 PM)

don't have the funds to travel therefore i'm stuck here.

It would only take a few grand; you could make that in a few months if you want it bad enough.  Get to working, hoss.  I'll give you some advice about relocating to solve depression....it doesn't work.
