Palin struck me as a platitude wrapped in a cliche underneath a hair bun.

Biden was dull and genial, never landing any knock-out blows of the BUSH-McCain policies.

I guess he's banking that most Americans see the trainwreck and can put 2 + 2 together.

I don't think I can take 4 years of Palin.  Not even if it is for a decent SNL skit.

I get sick of hearing that.  It's a colloquial pronunciation, and it's the height of  snobbery when people pull that little nugget out of their pretentious hats.

I was simply stating my opinion about the TOPIC, as everyone else here did.

I expect eloquence in any VP or Presidential candidate as the ability to speak well is key to the office, and "nucalar" and "gosh darn it" don't even come close to that.

I may not look for the same things as you do, but that doesn't make me a snob or pretentious. Get over yourself.

Biden won and avoided coming across as condescending. Palin did enough in losing to keep the Republican base solid.

General point

The debate is so restricted it isn't really a debate. It was boring.

Yea, I have to agree with you in this.

I thought it was very interesting how Palin did not really answer some of the questions but went to the talking points.

Most alarming is when she stated the VP office needed more power and that she would not talk to the media until after the election.  This is very troubling to me.    I think she should be required to answer qurxtions from us the people voting and the press

I thought they both did well. We expect Biden to perform well under these circumstances and I thought he did. Palin had the most to gain or lose from the debate and I think she was able to turn it into an asset as opposed to a liability.

I really am tired of this "a heartbeat away from the Presidency" stuff. Biden has run for president several times and has never made it past the early primary stage - including in this election cycle. Now this person who has been flatly rejected on more than one occasion by the American voting public is the "go to guy" if the worst case scenario happens. Right.

I listened to half the speech in my car on the way home tonight.
If you just listen to what she says and you are not "looking" at her,
you would just shake your head.
People need to seriously wake up.

Dunno about that..I guess if Nixon/Kennedy debated only on radio and TV was not available that dark Nixon beard might not have scared away the woman voters.  The "good news" for Palin is that tens of millions saw her and saw how she stared right at the camera or right at "Joe" and gave her views right back at him!  The gal that so many of those hip political pundits made fun of...took on a seasoned politician who has been through dozens of debates in his time, was warmed up by the democrat primary race, and more than held her own.

Those of us who loved her before the debate love her even more now...those of us who thought she is not a qaulified candidate for VP probably still think that way.  What is important here, I think, is that the majority of those non-committed voters have a lot more to think about after hearing and SEEING her peformance vis vis one of the lions of the Senate.  She was not the empty pant suit as some lib commentators tried to describe her.

I thought Palin did well, as did Biden, but I was bothered by the fact that Palin appeared to have memorized so much of what she said and seemed determined to get every word out before her time limit was up.

Had she slowed down and not appeared canned, she would have been the runaway winner, but she ended up only coming across as better than anyone expected...which for her, was good.

She could have done better simply by slowing down her presentation.

With that said, speaking in front of 8 kabillion people on ANY subject would have scared the living shit out of me....so on that front, I'd have to say she aced it.

The one thing that struck me the most while I was watching it though was....I kept on thinking, these would have been better debates had Palin been debating Obama....with Biden debating McCain.

With Biden, I felt like I was hearing a viable Vice-Presidential candidate and one who could step into the highest office should the unthinkable happen. He came across as smart and human. With Palin, I did not see her as a viable VP candidate nor do I take her seriously. She came across as fake, not folksy to me. Dog gone it anyhow. I had absolutely no expectation of Palin and that's exactly what she delivered.

Substance goes to Biden.
Intellect goes to Biden.
Humanity goes to Biden.
Bake Sale Goddess/Beauty Queen Pagent contestant - Palin, hands down.

My thoughts exactly. Only said much nicer than I wanted to.

The most damaging thing for Palin was the way they posted the current question on the bottom of the screen.

It made her sad, pathetic, rambling non-answers apparent to the most casual observer.

What I think is that people heard what they wanted to for the most part.  Those who are anti-Palin had to work a bit harder tt come up with their reasons that she is such a worthless candidate.  Surprise!  She actually did well.
On the other hand, Biden came out of it without the expected slap down of Palin that would have made him seem like a mean old man.  He showed himself to be a professional and above the heavy handed attacks people expected.  Surprise!  He was smart enough not to fall into sop simple a trap.
I thought that they both handled this better than most of us would have.  There was niether a clear winner nor a clear loser.  I doubt this debate changed anyone's mind about how they intend to vote.

That struck me too. Especially since the few times she didn't have a memorized answer, such as the climate change question, she really seemed to flail. It was hard to feel I was watching a person of substance.

Especially since she deliberately skipped answsering the questions with real answers so that she could fit in her 'talking points', seemingly willy nilly.

Bidens only job last nite was to not strike her down....and so he didnt. Palins only job was to not punt...but her basic ignorance of ...well...everything political that doesnt have something to do with a pipeline of one type or another...made her have to punt and use the talking points...and you could see her flounder and then shift into a memorized statement that could have been crushed....and wasnt.
Apparently its more important at this point to not be seen shoving a soccermom in Uggs to the ground than to debate the actual issues...but even i wouldnt have had the heart to watch Biden crush her...its bad enough that shes in this position....lets just let her go about her business and hope to all that is holy that she is never ever in the position to lead the country.
If Obama doesnt win this election, i predict a mass exodus to Canada...assuming everyone is allowed to get their papers in order.
i said when Hillary was running that i was disappointed in the women out there who were not supporting her...based soley on gender...but i now know that i was supporting her because she was capable as well...if it were gender based alone i would have been able to get on the Palin train....i just cant do it.
She didnt suck as badly as Qayle did. But a puppet cant really fail if she relies on her strings to save her.
