I imagine that BMI and ASCAP have their own ideas about what's legal or not in licensing and pretty much, if the venue has an agreement with the licensing clearinghouses, then the artists are SOL -- excepting the negative value of the press releases.

You're getting awfully defensive here, Mike. Of course I'm going to determine my own answers to these questions. What I'm asking you for is something to weigh them against. If all I knew of Rudy Giuliani were his prudish attitudes on free expression, and his family life, that he gives a good speech wouldn't get him my support. What has Obama accomplished that we can put on the scales?

Hardly defensive Heretic....I am comfortable with my candidate and his stance on most of the major issues.....what I am not comfortable with is intellectual dishonesty,you know wherein someone asks a question despite the fact they have already drawn their own conclusions and have no actual interest in the answer. When you actually ask a legitimate question,one where you are open to a possible answer.....get back to me.

Actually, they don't. ASCAP and BMI cover playback only. They have nothing to do with "right's usage" To use the songs in the manner the campaign did would require clearance of certain rights. Typically that would have to come from the artist unless at some point they sold those rights. K
