Don't you sorta wind up being what you hate about them in the end lol.

could you explain what you mean?

I mean if you allow them to get to you and you change your ways..in turn being rude to others because someone was rude to you in a way then your in danger of becoming something similar to them.

GreedyTop -> RE: WHY NO POLITE RESPONSES??? (10/12/2008 1:23:48 PM)

so you get your panties in a wad if someone doesnt answer? What if (as someone pointed out) your email ends up in the bulk folder? or they have their filters set? You'll likely never know that it had happened.. *shrug*

I believe I have the right to decide if it is a ‘polite’ email or not.  I don’t consider one word as polite. (hi, or owned? come to mind.)  Today I got one that said “I want you to say hello to me.”  Perhaps it is ‘my issue’ but it bordered on being an order, not a request.
Trust me, by not responding I am being much more polite than if I wrote back with the sharp retort that is always my first inclination.

I'm with you on this. Yesterday I got an email that said "Me" with a picture of his penis. Trust me he was better not receiving a response from me.

Why the hell should it be seen as rude for me not to respond to that.

lemmebeYourMine -> RE: WHY NO POLITE RESPONSES??? (10/12/2008 1:24:42 PM)

Agrees with JustDarkness.  I would have missed out on what is turning into a great friendship if I weren't polite enough to send a response to a fairly recent e-mail that struck me wrong. And I happen to be happy not to be missing out on what we have now. (Not to mention that I can't wait to see what our relationship might turn out becoming). Maybe I am just not lucky enough to get so many Doms attacking me and sending vitriol e-mails that I let it actually affect my self-image. . . or even hit home emotionally.

Dang, I got way more when I was on Yahoo chat, than I have ever gotten here. *ponders being jealous*  Nope, I like myself as is, without a hard-ass shell of protection being deemed vital to emotional and mental survival in such a ridiculously cruel world.

I'm going to keep smiling at the homeless guy down the block and saying hi back to him.

Lemmebe.

and what about the oh so polite emails from obvious scammers? are we rude for not replying to them?

No i stated it didn't bother me.
To answer the question :I guess you wouldn't be in fault of being rude if you didn't even know huh.

Welcome :)

And Des made some excellent points as well.. who are we (generic) to decide what is hurtful to another? I've got a fairly thick skin (the fat cow etc comments usually make me laugh).. but I don't care for having that kind of negativity in my life.. I have to deal with it enough away from the computer. *shrug*  If someone gets their panties in a wad because I dont answer their email... then they've got more issues than my *ahem* rudeness.

Thank you :)

I missed that part but agree there too. Especially the last sentence. I've written emails to Doms/Masters and not received a response. I don't tend to take it personally.  I know I have my reasons for not answering emails and the reasons can be so varied, I figure others do as well. Not seeing how that labels all with the rude title.

Actually, I -have- complained that my neighbor(s) didn't/don't say good morning [;)]-- one place that we lived in, the neighbors on one side of us actually would look out the door to make sure that we were not leaving at the same time before they'd step out the door. I found that exceptionally rude -- then again, I didn't have high expectations, so I just bitched about it when it came time to decide on a new place to live, so that we wouldn't choose that same environment to live in again.

lol it is sad that people wait so the don't have to say good morning

first thing I do with friends and subs is...learn them to say hello and good morning when they enter a room or so .  Strangers not saying soemthing..ok..but people such as neigbours and friends...not allowed with me...grin

And some would say that shrugging at someone (whether online or not) is rude. And ironic when done so in a conversation about rudeness.

The point is, we all have our opinions and boundaries. And what one person sees as rude, another does not.

Me polite? Oh bugger is that what I was supposed to be. Hang on while I tell Master I have failed in the subby stakes again.

I guess I keep making the same mistake time after time. I am submissive to my Master and nobody else as most of my staff will tell you.

Many people are here for other reasons that "online dating". If they are not looking for anyone why the hell should they waste their time responding to someone who has decided to call himself a Dom. It is not rude not to respond.

I guess you could blanket everything under that and get away with murder huh. It's a way to signify that it doesn't matter to me.(shrugs)

Could you be in danger by responding no thanks in an email lol.

Yes, danger of being highly annoyed by D-types who act like children when you tell them "no".  It's easier to ignore them.  If they have half a brain they should be able to figure out that this loudly screams "not interested".

There was no blanket, Icarys. It was an explanation of why I thought your own rudeness was ironic. You told GT not to reach; I suggest you do the same. Last I heard, murder was considered a crime, although I suppose some would call it "rude", too, lol.

So how is it rude to not answer an email from a stranger, if it's ok for strangers not to say hello entering a room?
